  • Sabine has an excellent point about the sugar. Making him pay for it is entirely appropriate though, seeing as he ruined it by leaving it out.

    • I'm with Sabine... that kind of sugar load is good for no one, especially a child with oppositional issues.

Clean the mess, replace the sugar. He has a job now, after all, so he can't play the "I don't have any money" game with you. Sorry for the situation. That would make me so mad as well.

      • I didn't make him eat the sugar' couldn't do that, but he has to pay for it, yes. Jenn. He HAD a job, but hasn't contacted them anymore after returning from holidays, so still no money . It was good to vent here, so I could face him being lots calmer .
Took another decision today. We have a cleaning lady since several years, because due to the fibromyalgia I wasn't able to do a lot. Now the cleaning lady we had for a few years now has found another job, so we have a new one since a few weeks. This one has worked here twice and has been ill the other 3 times. So I've been cleaning myself. And as I don't have the health and pain issues I used to have anymore I've decided I don't want a cleaning lady anymore. Just wrote a letter to the company providing the service, that as of october 1st we won't need them anymore. But this means the kids will have chores to do! So i'm going to make a planning with who has to do what on which day. That will be interesting...

Jenn, I missed your post, my whole 30 is going great! You can follow it on my blog, where I'm writing everything we eat and even what's in my kids' lunchbox

          • Excellent responses Candy! Maybe the son who is up to no good should get some extra chores.... When my kids misbehave I help them channel the excess energy by getting them to do work around the house - funny, they often actually enjoy it

Wonderful that you have the health to say you're done with a cleaning service!! I grew up with a maid and it was hard learning how to get all the cleaning done and co-ordinate the housework when I had never had it modeled for me. So glad you are doing well with W 30 too, you have made huge changes in your life and it is paying off. Well done!

              • Thanks Jenn I was brave enough to send them to my sis with the obligatory "just let me know if you're not interested and I won't send any more about it". I still have hope that she will at least give it a try.

                  • Hi girls, just a quick note to say I'm ok, just kind of busy! Cleaning lady isn't coming anymore, I'm making a chore chart for the kids (actually: 3 chore charts that will be rotated every week ). Whole 30 is going great, except that I'm having lots of pain in my lower back since more than a week now . It started after I've been doing looooots of sit ups at CrossFit one day. I'm fine when I stand up and/or walk around, but can't stay seated on a chair or my sitting ball for more than 15 minutes . I'm seeing my chiro tomorrow, hope she can help me because I'm fed up with it already!

Oh, I've ordered Practical Paleo and it arrived few days ago! I'm at page 45 now and LOVING IT! It's different than ISWF or The Paleo Solution, it doesn't go as deep in to the science of things, but is more practical. Didn't have time yet to look at all the recipes, but the pictures are really nice.

                    • Sorry you're having back pain! Nasty thing - messes with you on so many levels. Hopefully your chiro can sort it out for you. Sit ups are pretty notorious for that if something isn't 100% right, or your form is a little off, or you overdo it. Maybe the chiro will be able to shed some light on that for you.

Tell us more about the book as you go ... what kind of stuff does it have in it? Practical in what way?

                      • I have had numerous chiropractors tell me NOT to ever do situps b/c they put too much strain on the lower back. And it must be true. You'd never believe the number of US Army Soldiers who end up with low back surgery after years of situps in their history. Everyone that I've talked to that's had a back surgery has had bulged discs, which is what my chiropractors have warned me about. I would opt out if I were you, especially if they're causing you pain.

                        • Back pain is indeed caused by the sit ups, as my abs are not strong enough I forced my back doing them. Chiro told me not to do sit ups anymore (or at least until I have stronger abs), crunches should be OK though. I need to go back a few times and hope she can fix it. Sitting for longer time is still a problem, luckily standing up/walking around is ok .

Newsflash: I'm considering a career switch . I'm looking at becoming a kindergarten teacher. It would mean going back to school, but I could combine it with my PT job. As it's too late to start this year I will have to wait another year, then 4 years of school and so I could start my new career in 5 years . I was considering this the first time about 5 years ago, but I was always ill and in pain then, due to the fibro, so I didn't think I would be able to ever do this. But now I kicked fibro in the butt I feel capable of dealing daily with 30 demanding toddlers .

                          • Congratulations with the fibro! I need to send some articles to a resistant friend.. I'm sure you know, but sit-ups mostly engage the psoas, which is strong enough already! Planks are the greatest ab workout around!
