  • I'm doing my best to get my carbs higher, but indeed I'm having a hard time getting my fats lower . I'm not even using that much extra fat (a tbsp of olive oil in my salads and roasted veggies and a little coconut oil for baking). I'm still on no-poo, this morning I washed my hair and there was a lot of hair in the bath tub again . I sure hope this will stop soon, as even my mom noticed my hair is a lot thinner.

This morning I went to CrossFit with DH and the kids; I had to do a WOD called Christine (run 400m, 12 deadlifts with 25 kg, 21 box jumps - repeat 3 times) for time; after our 45 days challenge we'll be doing this again and see if we got better. I did it in 16.5 minutes. I also got my fat measured all over my body, I've taken "before" pictures too and I'm going to measure myself now too. I'm really curious if those numbers will be down in 45 days!

    Today's eats:
B: coffee with coconut milk, 3 brazil nuts
S: HB egg before going to CrossFit
L: 2-egg omelet with bacon, lettuce and tomato with EVOO and vinegar
D: vegetable soup (julienne: carrots, leeks, onions and celery), sirloin steak (150 gr - 5.3 oz), salad made with chicory (witloof) and apple, EVOO and raspberry vinaigrette; 100 gr (3.5 oz) red grapes as dessert

I'm going to watch some TV tonight, it's Angels & Demons (liked the book). Tomorrow I'm doing a "dry-run" of my exam, busy day!

    • Bananas are great for bringing up carbs and still providing a wonderful hit of nutrition.

Chicory and apple, nice idea. I'll have to try it next time my FIL insists I take a whole bag of the stuff. I like arugula with apple, along with some hot marinated eggplant and walnuts. To die for.

      • Candy...sometimes I don't like to eat right after I get up...& I'm usually not hungry anyway. But because of my thyroid/adrenal issues I know I have to eat something. So I eat usually around 10 or 10:30 & call it "brunch"!! lol A couple of eggs scrambled, fried or made into an omelet & a couple pieces of bacon & a couple of strawberries & I'm good till about the middle of the afternoon.

takes awhile to work out the kinks, but you'll figure it out. I'm still working on my kinks! lol

Oh, forgot to add that to my foods, I did have a banana after workout yesterday.

Today I've been in the kitchen all day. I made the time-table for my exam on Wednesday and did a "dry run". I've been baking all afternoon! Will post some pictures of all I baked today. I've decided I'm going to have one mini-chocolate bread as dessert tonight. It'll be the first time I eat gluten in months!

          Eats so far today:
          B: coffee with coconut cream
L: roasted chicken (free range), roasted fennel and sweet potato
          S: a small orange
D: will be a salad with smoked fish (mackerel and lox) and small choc-bread with layer of butter as dessert

Hmmm, including my little cheat my numbers don't look bad at all!

          90g carbs

I think I'll be eating more chicken, turkey and fish, as it seems that red meats (beef and pork) are quite high in fat . Won't be a problem anyway I like fish and poultry!

Off to finish the danish pastries I've baked today and will post some pics afterwards.

            • This is my favorite way to have bananas:
Slice in half lengthwise, and cook in a frying pan with butter, turning once after the bottom is golden-brown. When the second side is cooked, add a shot of vanilla, and let boil off. Eat!

              • Sabine, sounds delicious! But I am lazy. A simple banana with a smear of almond butter added to the top after every bite does me really well for a quick and easy breakfast/snack. Which is, surprise, surprise, what I had for breakfast this morning.

Candy, it does look like you are a wonderful baker. I'm glad those goodies are on the other side of the Atlantic. Although I successfully stared down a home-made chocolate birthday cake today.

                • Emotional day again...we were invited this morning to DS1's principal's office. DS1 is still suspended and there's little hope that he can return to school . We will know for sure around Wednesday. But I'm off course ahead of things, thinking what next? If he's expelled, I'm going to have to find another school for him (homeschooling is not an option here in Belgium ). Problem is I'll need to find a school with the same curriculum (he's studying graphic media, not many schools have that in Belgium), as at this time of the school year they're not allowed to change curriculum. I'm worried sick and sick of being worried, as DS1 doesn't really seem to worry all that much! After all it's HIS life :ma:
And of course I cried my eyes out in the principals office , I'm such a wimp, really!

Don't know if I'm sad or just MAD, but I could kick my son's behind so hard he flies straight to the moon right now!

For a little good news: I did NOT have chocolate or any other bad stuff ALL DAY (ok, it's just 4:30, but not planning on it either).

                  Today's menu:
B: coffee with coconut milk, 2 brazil nuts
L (at 1:15, after I came back from DS1's school): leftover roasted chicken, fennel and sweet potatoe
S: 1 tangerine, 1 small apple with tabelspoon of almond butter
D: wild salmon curry with broccoli and Jerusalem artichoke

                  • Sorry you are having such a rough time with DS1. I'll be thinking of you.
(Reading your entry made me realize I forgot my brazil nut - again! - this morning. Why is building a new habit so hard?! I can't leave EVERYTHING out on my counter for a reminder!)

                    • So sorry for your troubles with DS1. It brings back memories... Do remember that the world has not ended. He will have to pay for foolish decisions in the future - they come with their own consequences - but he will have many, many chances to turn around and head in a better direction. As we all do.

                      *hugs*

                      • On losing hair: have you had your iron/ferritin levels checked? I was losing hair and found to be low (though not anemic). Within a few days of supplementing, the hair loss stopped.

                        • Thanks girls, I think I need to distance myself emotionally from the situation, but it's not easy. I'm doing my best.

I'm damn proud of myself that I didn't even think of "rewarding" myself with food; before going grain-free I would have had at least a few pieces of chocolate (a whole bar more likely) and some gluten and sugar loaded stuff. Now I didn't even have one single piece of chocolate and did NOT touch the buns I baked yesterday (a year ago there would have been none left by this time, I'm pretty sure).

I was considering having my blood checked if it doesn't get better soon.

These numbers look MUCH better than the ones you posted last week. You should really try to aim for 75-100 carbs and a minimum of 100 gm protein. The rest is fat. Yes, red meat is the fattier meats, but I know you can do it b/c you just did.

Breakfast happens the first time you eat after a fast - whether that fast occur for sleep or because you've fasted. It doesn't HAVE to be in the AM. Eat whenever you want.

I also noticed that Paleo tends to subscribed to the more meals per day than Primal does, but I think that's because Paleo is low fat and Primal is not. Crossfit tends to follow the Paleo lifestyle. I think you'll be fine to stick with what you're doing for meals, but up that protein and see if you can reduce that fat at all. Fish is a great idea!

I was thinking the same thing, nameless.

I lose a lot of hair with every shower too, but mine is likely because I wear mine in a ponytail EVERY day and it breaks. I mentioned this to my sister once (a licensed cosmotologist) and she told me it's likely breakage.

                                1409 cal
                                86g protein

                                86g carbs

It's not easy to up the protein without upping the fats too though .
