My favourite smell is clean cotton T-shirt with clean man in it... Fortunately, I have a husband who likes both cotton T-shirts and being clean.

Bacon and evergreens and coffee are all good too. Can't speak to California grass, but rain-washed air is always nice, especially in the spring. I do love the smell of the soil waking up in the spring.

      ^YES

Making soap like that sounds awesome, though and I'll have to try it sometime soon.

      • Smell sharing would be awesome! It would make ordering Perfume Oils so much easier .

I had a bath this evening, because I got home really dirty from CrossFit! So I just 'washed' my hair under water and rinsed it off. Hmmm, it's way past my bedtime again. DH is abroad until Thursday and I always go to sleep much too late when he's not here . Also my son Lex is away the whole week, so it's just me with my 2 other boys (the youngest and the oldest). OK, off to bed I go now!

        • All this talk of soap making gets me very intrigued. I think I must do some reading up (WHEN?!) and try it out! I use a lot of EO's so have that side ready to go. That soap looks beautiful Candy! I don't think I could go pooless! My hair is down to my butt and gets really oily - always had that since I was a kid. Maybe I'll try it out for a short while ... nothing ventured nothing gained!

Some of my favourite smells - sweet horse smell, dusty road with rain drops just starting to fall, fresh cut grass, snow on the way smell, lavender freshly crushed, my hubby's skin - so distinct, the African veld right after a thunderstorm!!! Now I am homesick! Jasmine flowers in spring - aaah ecstatic, sweetpeas, roses, freshly turned soil .... I love smells!

          • @Coll, it's fun to make your own soap! If you want to learn, there's a soapmakers forum called The Dish: Log In. I did register there at some point, but I hardly go there, not enough time (I'm on a Dutch soap-makers forum too)!

My hair today is really greasy luckily it's long enough to put it in a pony tail and I'm working from home today . I do have 2 kinds of clay (white and green clay), I think I'll try to use that to 'cleanse' my hair (instead of the bicar).

            • Stress sneaking in here!!!! I have my final exam (bread and confectionary) on May 9th, tonight is our last lesson and we're going to start preparations for our final exam. We'll have to prepare a themed brunch for 8 persons in just about 5 hours on our exam , that's why we have to prepare beforehand. My theme will be adoption, as this year I'm FINALLY going to be adopted by my stepdad .
This is what I'll have to make for my final:
3 kinds of 'hard' bread rolls (typical for my country, they have a crispy crust)
3 kinds of soft bread rolls (brioche style)
              2 kinds of danish pastries
              puff pastry appetizer (1 kind)
              Bavarois dessert
              sponge cake

Tonight we'll be making the puff pastry, prepare the appetizers (so they only need to be baked off on the exam - they can be put in the freezer until then - I'm making mini-sausage rolls), the bavarois desserts (I'm making 2 layers in little glasses with some almond-biscuit in between layers, one layer strawberry mousse, the other "blanc manger", almond mousse) and bake the sponge cakes (these will go in the freezer too, so we only need to fill and finish off on the exam).

              • Candy are you training to be a baker? Or a general chef? That is awesome. I do personal chef work. I love cooking. I started my own business doing 'paleo' style catering to individuals. I adore this work.

                • I have really oily hair too... like if i fail to clean it 2 days in a row, it just FEELS heavy from all the oil. I am intrigued by the poo-less concept b/c what they say is that after a bit of time, the glands simmer down and don't produce so much oil as it's not being stripped with shampoo every day. I have long hair too (mid back) and wear it in a ponytail daily b/c it drives me nuts any other way. Too fine and thick. So I think having an oily head of hair will be passable for a short time. It's something I'm willing to try out, anyway.

Baker, but no plans to open a bakery ;-) ! Yesterday went well, I have prepared the bavarois desserts, went for little glasses with a layer of white chocolate mousse, a piece of sponge cake in the middle and then a layer of strawberry mousse. These are now in the freezer and will only need a "finishing touch" on exam day. Also the puff pastry appetizers are ready to be baked (frozen now too). The sponge cakes we need to decorate are also baked and frozen. Time to start thinking about decorations and finishing! I also did well on our theoretic exam last week, I got 90%!!! Woohoow! All that stress for nothing .

I am thinking of baking "primalized" goods 'on demand' after I have my certificate, or at least glutenfree. But first things first: pass my exam on May 9th!

I'm not doing well food wise today . I had some leftover strawberry and white chocolate mousse from yesterday and had the strawberry one for breakfast and then had a white chocolate one with a coffee at 10 - although it's mainly made of good stuff like full-fat cream and eggs, there's also a lot of sugar in it. I'm also baking cakes for my DH to take to work tomorrow. It was his birthday yesterday, but he's abroad (in Switzerland) until this evening. I'm baking very CW-cakes, low fat (yoghurt and - EEEEEKS! - sunflower oil) and all , but hey, it's for very CW colleagues (he works for a big pharmaceutical company ). I'm going to tweak one of the recipes and make it kind of primal (it's an almond-orange cake and the recipe calls for very little flower, so I can just leave that out or maybe replace with half the amount of coconut flower), so that I can take that with me tonight to the meeting with our 'street committee'. Doubting if I'll replace (and anyway reduce the amount!) the sugar with coconut crystals or honey?

Oh, I'm going to take part in a summer challenge at my CrossFit gym, it'll be kind of a Whole30 thing. It'll be a good thing, because I am getting a little too much sugar lately . Who knows I might be able to loose those last 5 kg .

                    • Update on the hair: it was really oily yesterday, but I just kept it in a pony tail so nobody really noticed.
I have 'washed' my hair this morning (just water and my fingers ) and I have the impression it looks and feels just a little less oily as after my first poo-less washing.

I also started to do oil pulling (with EVCO) since yesterday morning, and bought a natural saline toothpaste (made with: sodium bicarbonate, vegetable glycerine, silica, see salt and some extracts and essences). I'm curious if this will make a difference when I go to my dentist (he always has a lot of cleaning to do ).

                        • What is oil pulling? And is vegetable glycerin good??? Lopisheep (I think it was her anyway) said that she uses baking soda and coconut oil for toothpaste... I would think that a wet toothbrush would be enough too as long as you get the stuff off, right? I feel like my dentist has to do a lot of picking at my teeth, but she says that it's actually very little. She picks for like 10 or 15 minutes. To me, that's a long time. Maybe you're the same way??

Glad to hear the poo-less experiment is working well for you. I skipped the hair washing this morning. I've been doing that lately... only washing it 2-3x per week. (Weird that I don't feel ashamed saying that here, but would NEVER admit it to the "real" world). My hair is REALLY oily and my scalp itches by the 3rd day without washing - especially if it's been warm or I have gotten sweaty. Do you think the baking soda rinse will correct that?

                          • My daughter went shampooless for a while. I was not impressed with the results. Having said that, I always go at least two days, sometimes three between washings.

BTW, an old trick to remove oil from your hair was to rub quick oats into it and brush it out carefully. Mind you, they don't make the good boar bristle brushes like they used to. But if you haven't purged your pantry, it might be a good way to get rid of the oatmeal... LOL!

                            • Dang it! I already pitched my oatmeal! And my hair is long - like mid back long - and I'm sure I'd miss some oatmeal and likely have birds aflight around my head all day! lol

                              • Different hair types respond to different things. I have rather thick, coarse hair that's 8" long. I do a baking soda scrub (just the powder, rubbed into my wet hair, the whole length but with more scrubbing at the scalp. Let it sit for a minute or two, rinse with water. Then I pour on white vinegar, let it sit for a minute or two, and rinse with water again. I get a great result: shiny, bouncy, more natural wave. When my hair gets longer, I am going to try full-on pooless, with no baking soda and vinegar. But I need it longer so that I can pull it back into a ponytail during any difficult periods.
