  • Hmm, I shower only every two days in normal circumstances and the soap only goes on the smelly bits. For deodorant, I use the rock crystal stuff, have for years. It's odorless, doesn't gunk up my bras and clothes, and lasts just about forever, so is cheaper than any of the normal stuff too. I use cheap white soaps, like Ivory or Jergen's. It does the trick for me.

Probably too late to remind you to check the Skinny on Obesity series, but I just got to your journal now. Was babysitting the little ones overnight, and hubby interrupted me earlier when I was checking journals to run errands, so I'm behind. And trusting me to remind you of anything at any time is a very, very risky business. I am very absent-minded, and always have been. I've developed all kinds of little habits and routines to protect myself from that, but it still bites me in the rear far too often.

    • Thanks, Judg, for the reminder. Googling it now.

Tomi, doesn't your pillow get all greasy when you go to bed with CO in your hair??

Day 12 is complete. Spent about 25% of the work day in the bathroom. Not cool. Damn you, wheat!

Yesterday, I thought my itchy skin was caused by the new bath soap, but today I think it's caused by my laundry detergent. I didn't shower this morning, and I'm itchy all over! I went to the bathroom here at work to apply lotion to my legs thinking the skin had dried out again and found myself covered in hives. While I'm still using the same brand of laundry detergent, I had to get a different formula this weekend b/c the store didn't carry my usual. I usually use Tide with Febreze (the Active formula b/c it does a good job of removing workout stink from clothes), but I ended up getting Tide with Downey. Anywhere that is covered with clothes itches right now... Took a benedryl, so hopefully that'll help.

I'll have to be sure to leave work on time tonight so I can swing by Walmart and get some of the right laundry detergent. What I don't want to do is rewash everything... Ugh... what a pain. Also need to pick up some grapes. DS ate them all. lol

We went racing last night. Didn't do well. DH missed the call for his qualifying race b/c he was changing the gear in the rear end... should have left it alone. He came out for the "last chance" race and didn't do well at all. Just looked slow. Didn't do well enough to qualify for the main event, so DS and I went home shortly after the main started. No sense in watching it if DH isn't racing, ya know. Plus it was cold and it was getting late and DS was getting tired. He fell asleep in the car before we were even out of the parking spot!! DD stayed with MIL.

After yesterday's bathroom escapades, I'm down 3 lbs. One of those is a new pound. Scale read 200 this morning. I'll believe it if it also says 200 tomorrow. Not going to count it as a lb loss yet b/c it could just be a touch of dehydration that resulted in such a low number. I hope the scale says 200 tomorrow!! I can't wait to break that first digit in half and enter Onederland!!

      Yesterday's eats:

      B:
      4 sausage links
      1 boiled egg
      1/2 cup sauerkraut

      L: (at at 4 pm)
      1 1/2 small catfish filets
      sugar snap peas with ghee

      S: (1030 pm)
      almonds

Bed by 11. Took a vicodin for my rib. Slept well, but woke up tired! Wanted to cry when the alarm went off...

      • Onederland! Love it. So what if it's dehydration? It's a lower number than the last time you were dehydrated, right? I know I usually bounce up from sudden downward spikes, but as long as it's not more than 2 pounds, all is cool. I just edge myself down so the next downward spike goes even lower.

        • Because if it's the result of dehydration as the result of spending so much time in the potty yesterday, then it's not my real weight b/c as soon as I get rehydrated, the weight will go up a touch - likely only 1 lb.

If I'm at 200 tomorrow, then so be it, changing my ticker and changing my signature. But, if I'm at 201 tomorrow, then no damage done by the wheat invasion this weekend and I can just keep moving forward. No harm, no foul.

If I count 200 today and rehydrate and go up to 201, then I have to relose that same pound again in my head. If I don't count it today and wait to see what the scale says tomorrow, no trauma occurs in my psyche.

          • Things that have changed since going Primal:

            1. Obvious weight loss

            2. Less fatigued during the day (most days - some days are still pretty rough)

            3. I get full easily and absolutely HAVE to stop eating, even if I don't want to

            4. I can easily pass up foods that used to be a weakness for me

            5. I don't have a body smell anymore - haven't used deodorant in at least a week!

            6. Body temp is more stable - I don't get hot easily and don't get super cold easily - however when I'm at work, I am in an almost constant state of goosebumps, but according to Mark's Brown Adipose Tissue blog, this is a good thing.

            7. Mental health is greatly improved! I'm in the final stages of eliminating medication from my life!!

            8. I have become a food snob!

            9. I am less apt to take pain relievers as I don't want to subject my body to medicinal chemicals either.

            10. I am less crabby and more patient.

            11. In the last week, I have been more productive around home (more energy? better priorities?)

            12. I am wearing pre-pregnancy pants today - and they're comfortable!

            13. I no longer sweat like a pig when it's warm or humid out.

            14. I don't notice the humidity anymore. Corn is easily 2 foot tall and usually once the corn sprouts, the humidity levels skyrocket and I'm in a constant state of discomfort... Not recently. So either my body is adapting easily or the humidity doesn't exist. Ok, just looked... humidity is not present today (40% relative humidity means it's comfy outside), but I can't believe that's the trend for the whole season already.

            15. I sleep better. I'm still awaken at night by kids, but I am sleeping more heavily than before. Any slight noise used to wake me. Now I sleep through thunderstorms and trains!

            16. Karotinosis (sp? no matter how I spell it, it looks weird) is improving.

            17. I get excited about vegetables! WHAT!?! Especially those growing in my garden.

            18. I'm happier

            19. I'm happier

            20. I'm happier

There you have it folks, the top 20 changes that have occurred for me since changing to a Primal lifestyle.

That last point is the real winner. If counting it as a loss and then seeing the number go up again discourages you, then you definitely should not do it. We have to tailor our little systems and methods to fit our own personalities and circumstances. Good that you know yourself that well.

                    And yes, nice list!

                        • Love the list - and might have to steal that idea for my own journal. Sorta like "counting your blessings". 20 is a bit too ambitious for me though - I think I'll stick to 10 for the first go around.

CO and greasy pillow? Well, the pillow case does absorb a bit of it for sure, but most of it stays on my hair. It makes the pillow smell coconutty thats not a bad thing. Usually I just change the pillow case the next day, problem solved.

Sorry hubby didn't qualify......... but sounds like a good thing since DS was so pooped out!
                          1. Love ME no matter what noises are screaming at me, or who is trying to tear me down.
                          2. Eat to heal
                          3. Move to live
                          4. Embrace today
                          5. Live with intention
                          6. Respect my body
                          7. Cultivate joy
                          8. Find my passion
                          9. Meditate on peace in my soul

                          • I hadn't intended on it being 20... I had 5 things in mind when I started the list, but then kept thinking of more. Once I got to 17, I thought, heck why not 20... uh oh, can't think of 20... ok, we'll do this and thus was born 18-20. lol
