      • Got an email from the University of Iowa. I was not selected for an interview for the Program Coordinator job. This makes me sad b/c the only other positions I found there that I'm qualified for are admin positions and I'd rather not be an admin til I retire. *sigh*

              • Evaluating the vitex. 2 capsules a day does not give me the libido surges I'm used to from the 3 capsules daily... but 3 capsules kills my period. I get crampy and all that PMSy crap, but no red death... thinking, since I can't find 200 mg capsule, that I'll try a month of 2 capsules and 3 capsules on alternating days to see what that does.

I suspect ovulation is taking place currently, which is when I usually have my highest desire on the Vitex, but no desire this week at all. So, expect that in 2 weeks or so the Russian Circus will come to town, at which time I'll try the alternating schedule with the Vitex.

100 mg of 5-htp still seems to be ok. More than that is not so good - easily annoyed in the AM when I take more than 100.

                • All caught up on journals which means nothing to read.... *sigh*

Slept better last night b/c the kids slept better. Brady didn't come to our room until after 5 and Makenna didn't come in til after 6.

My sister's learning primal and it's super cute. She called me this morning and was like "Can I have carrots?" Seriously? I asked her "What's a carrot?" She replied "A vegetable". I said, there's your answer. She's one of those who won't read anything (I guess she kind of read It Starts with Food, but not all of it) and would instead rather ask people what is right/wrong with whatever she's dealing with. So I get to answer the "Are carrots ok?" questions. Goofy. I try not to make her feel dumb, and I try not to talk down to her about it, b/c she's my sister... but seriously! Read the dang book! I already told her that meat, veggies and fruits are ok... if a carrot is a veggie, it should be ok, right?

Sister-in-law is on board for a Whole30 in May too. She said she tried to do the whole "eat what I want but track the calories" thing, but said her acid reflux came back as did her depression. She has decided to do a W30 to "reset" and remember what it's like for her body to feel good again. I'm glad and I hope it helps her feel good again.

Brad and I are looking at getting new cell phones. We're eligible for an upgrade now. US Cellular has a cool deal where you can upgrade at a discount (the phones we're looking at have a $500 discount on them!! ), without signing a new contract. We haven't been on contract with them for over 2 years now, which basically means we can leave whenever we want without penalty, but we stay b/c no one has offered us anything better... Our new phones will cost us $200... we could get 'free' ones but we don't want any of the free ones... so $200 it is... And I guess there is this new thing that all carriers are doing now where when you get a new phone at a discount, you pay a $35 activation fee. I think this activation fee is bullshit, but what can ya do? I verified with the customer service team that our monthly payment would not change even though we have no contract and they have assured me that we'll remain where we are in price... I'm happy with them - this $35 fee I'm not so happy about, though. Grrrrrrrr... That means my next cell phone bill is going to be $200 to cover our monthly fee and the $70 activation... *sigh* they always get you somewhere...

Awaiting updated news on the furloughs. Some things that were cut are being reinstated so I think things are changing. For instance, they had cut tuition assistance for soldiers and told us the air conditioning wouldn't be turned on until July 1... they have since reistated the tuition assistance program and sent an email saying AC would be turned on 15 May. This makes me think the furloughs won't happen after all. I'm both hopeful that they eliminate the need for furloughs, but also hope that we still get our furlough days b/c I was rather looking forward to them. Oh well. The extra money we've set aside will be nice to have as well. It will make a nice dent in a credit card I'm hoping to pay off by November.

It's Admin Specialists Day... what a stupid business holiday. I get a pay check for doing my job. I don't need a card too... Bosses got a card and a potted Gerber Daisy for me. Plus gluten bombs... but I will enjoy them despite being gluten bombs. Whole30 next week will fix it.

                  • I just posted so you can read mine! Good job on getting the sisters to start eating better! How exciting to have family members on board! Sure wish I could get my sisters doing this. Maybe if I really get this weight off they will see the actual physical benefits of it. ?? I might be healthier on the inside and feeling great - but they only see what is on the outside - so I'm going to show them what Primal and Barre3 can do if they just make a few changes. I am 185 and the smallest of my 3 sisters. Their weights go from about 200 - 320 ish. That's just my guestimations. I would love to see the 3 of them get healthy with me - but I don't say anything to any of them.

                    • Sounds like you are getting everything under control! i like the casserole. May try a version of it. I have ignored the Boston news. The news medias almost orgasmic portrayals make me sick. I pay just enough attention to know what is happening but other than that I can't handle it. It will be interesting to see if there is a why. I can't imagine it would ever satisfy the horror.

Do you ever wonder if things like this happened pre-civilization? Or even early civilizations? It is so senseless.

                      Okay sorry...see! I just can't handle it!

                      • My SIL has been following primal for almost a year - for the most part, but decided to try the whole calorie counting thing again. It didn't work and she feels poorly so she's using the W30 to reset her body and habits and get back to Primal - at least that's how it sounds.

My sister is checking it out for the first time.

                        ***

Discussions about money and how it should be spent... always raise my anxiety. Brad and I have nickeled and dimed the furlough fund down to the bare minimum, but I hadn't said anything to him b/c we were still ok for the remaining 14 days of the furlough. He just asked what we were going to use the extra money for...The extra being what we don't need after reducing it to cover only 14 days... Sadly, it's not there b/c of our overspending and poor money management. I can't account for all the money spent, but I can show that it all went to our checking account to cover overspending - which we are great at doing. I'm sure he's going to be livid. Given that he's not texting me back after telling him that the extra is gone tells me he's not happy and I'm not going to like the text that I get in return.

                        • I just wanted to pop in and say that you have my condolences on the whole
                          bowling birthday party...

But count yourself lucky, cuz here in California, at the shittiest bowling alley you
can find (i swear, it looks the same from when *I* was a kid) it's 150 for two hours,
ten people minimum. Zero pizza, zero anything else but shoes.

We're going on Friday for my son's 11th birthday.

So, just wanted to say that I'm really feeling your pain on that one.

Wish I could drown it away with piles of Bacardi at the bowling alley,
but, yanno, have to drive home, and it's really lame to get hammered
at your kid's b-day party. Hahahahahahahhahahaha!

Stupid bowling prices. At least it includes the shoes... Seriously, OH THANKS!

                          Grumble, grumble.....

                          • Our bowling alley isn't that great either, but the new owners are making improvements. Brad and I decided we'd buy pizza for everyone and they could buy their own bowling and shoes since more people would want pizza than would want to bowl. If it was $150 just to bowl, we'd find something else to do.

And yeah, probably in poor taste to get hammered at your son's party.

                            • I hear ya!

My kids always have the option of having a "kid party" with their friends
and their friends' shitty gifts, or a "family party" and a NICE gift from us
parents from the money we WOULD have spent on the damn kid party.

Trampoline place would be an easy 300 dollars, same for the bouncy house place,
so 150 for the bowling was good for our "activity". He gets to spend it with his
cousins, so that's "kid" enough for me. Har.

And I get to hang out with my family of ADULTS rather than 10 brats that don't know
how to say please and thank you.

150 is a small price to pay for that. HAR!!!

There are about three really swanky bowling alleys in our area, but I won't even stun
you with the price of those for 10 people. Jesus WEPT.

                              Julie

p.s. his "nice gift" of choice is a really nice metal detector... Not the piece of
crap 19.99 variety from Toys R Us he has now. He's going to get
rich that way you know.... Snort.

                              • My daughter is only going to be 3 so she hasn't had much say. As long as she gets to unwrap presents and eat cake, she'll be happy. I think we're going to have a birthday party at the local pool for my son's birthday in January (brrrrr). He's obsessed with the local swimming pool. Husband is obsessed with bowling all of a sudden, hence the need to have Kenna's party there.
