    • Hey girl...so much going on. My sympathies on your review, those are horrible. I am sure you do more than you realize. Just try to put it out in a good light. As far as your MIL; I remember when I smoked how mad it made me when someone said something. I knew the right thing to do but I had to get there myself. She is going to have to do the same thing. Just keep loving her and shining that light.

      • Smoking cigarettes b/c you're hooked is completely different in my eyes than smoking pot b/c you're not willing to change your life to fix your health. I used to smoke. I quit 4 times before it actually stuck. I don't harp on cigarette smokers b/c I know how hard it is to quit. Been there, done that.

I have a friend with Lyme's Disease. She and I have been talking a lot recently (she contacted me with a question about her dad's VA disability benefits and our conversation moved elsewhere). She told me a lot of stuff about Lyme that I didn't know. She and her son both have it (he's 12 I think). I asked Katsuhiko the Rolfer some questions about how they would approach Lyme in the UK. I asked KR b/c drs in the UK have different ideas than drs in the US. She gave me some tips and techniques to share with my friend. The friend was very appreciative and said that she's been sick for so long that none of her friends and family care anymore or bother to help. I feel badly for her. She feels so abandoned and hopeless, but remains positive somehow. She still has her sons and husband, so she's not completely alone, but sometimes it's nice to have a friend. She's also got 73 different confirmed food allergies. We have talked about that too and I shared with her some info out of Practical Paleo that says she's likely suffering from leaky gut that is causing food particles to trigger as allergic reactions. She said she's started making some dietary changes based off of this.

I hope some of KR's suggestions work for her. KR suggested juicing, and funny enough, Michele has been reading up on juicing but didn't know where to start! KR's suggestions have given her a bit of guidance to travel down that road.

Anyhow, this gal and I have been talking about her illness for a long time (like 2 years maybe??) and she's very receptive to the whole idea of diet being a cure. I hope something helps her b/c she's on some nasty drugs for the pain and spends about 85% of her time in bed b/c she's so wiped out and in so much pain.

Probably another situation where I'm trying to help someone to make me feel better... who knows, maybe I'm supposed to help people. Maybe that's my purpose. I seem to be drawn to it no matter how badly I try not to. I believe MIL is a lost cause so definitely won't be attempting that again. But as long as Michele is interested in help, I'll do what I can.

With that, I'm going to put my kids to bed and veg.

        • Working budget stuff today, then working on my thesis (gotta finish proof reading it and get it submitted), and then if there's time, working on some training for work. Need to finish up my "significant accomplishments" for my eval too. Stupid.

Learned that we likely won't have a house payment due in June, so the amount we would have paid is going toward the credit card. Our new payment will be $245 less than the old payment. Our mortgage payment will finally be below $1,000 a month! This is tremendous b/c I know people who are paying more than that in RENT. This new payment makes the student loan payment less uncomfortable and allows for plenty of room to pay Makenna's preschool tuition (3 year old pre-k has a tuition fee, 4 year old does not as it is funded through some kind of state or federal grant). Things are coming along nicely with that and we are well on our way to having that credit card paid off in October, a month ahead of schedule.

            • So... I was at the gym, right, and I was deadlifting, right, and I was getting ready to put on two 2-1/2# plates to move up to 130 - which was my goal today, and decided I would consolidate all the little plates into one large plate (my thinking here is that 45s are taller so I wouldn't have to lift as far - I was actually doing it to cheat a bit) and realized after taking a 25 and 2 tens off of one side that I still had a 5# plate on that side as well, which meant I'd just taken 50#'s off that side... 50 on one side and 50 on the other side is 100 (the bar weighs 45)... thinking this couldn't be right, I added the little plates again... Since I was unable to do the math in my head and get 125, I broke out the calculator and realized that instead of 125 lbs, I had just done a 5x1 with 145 lbs... See kids, math is important! And I totally shattered my goal.

              Barbell Deadlift:
              95 lb x 5 reps (+65 pts)
              115 lb x 5 reps (+75 pts)
              125 lb x 5 reps (+80 pts)
              135 lb x 5 reps (+85 pts)
              145 lb x 5 reps (+91 pts)
              110 lb x 5 reps (+72 pts)
              110 lb x 5 reps (+72 pts)
              110 lb x 5 reps (+72 pts)
              110 lb x 5 reps (+72 pts)
              110 lb x 5 reps (+72 pts)

              Body Weight Lunge:
              10 reps (+15 pts)
              10 reps (+15 pts)

              Body Weight Squat:
              10 reps (+8 pts)
              10 reps (+8 pts)

              Running:
              0:05:30 || 0.5 mi || flat (+31 pts)
              0:05:30 || 0.5 mi || flat (+31 pts)

              Standing Barbell Calf Raise:
              135 lb x 10 reps (+25 pts)
              110 lb x 10 reps (+21 pts)
              110 lb x 10 reps (+21 pts)

              • Took my measurements. Disappointed to see there was no change since the last time (about 3 weeks ago). Quite possibly my body is holding onto water for muscle repair, but I thought for sure things looked differently in the mirror. Tape measure says differently, so I guess I keep on keepin on.

Giving serious thought to going VLC again. I've been sort of just LC for a while now b/c VLC is a lot of work - mainly keeping protein in check. I'll take the rest of this week to consider it. I'll miss strawberries and cream as that throws me over the carb goal every time.

                • Could be muscle replacing things, so measurements are the same for now, but you have some water retention. Keep at it! I don't think you should change anything too quickly. How long have you been doing the lifting for?

                  • I don't plan to change anything - except maybe clean up the eats a bit. I haven't been tracking lately so I'm sure my calories are off the hook. I've been lifting heavy for about 3 weeks. The only reason I measured is because things looked different.

                        • Oy... my back is SORE today. OHP on Tuesday followed by deadlifts yesterday equals MUCH core strengthening, which equals sore back muscles. Today is supposed to be a bench day. Might opt for a rest day or run instead. Running will still use my back muscles, but not to the same extent that lifting would. Rest assured, this isn't an "oh shit I hurt my back" pain. This is an "OMG I kicked my own ass" pain. Definitely DOMS, but in a place I'm not accustomed to feeling them. I'm used to DOMS in the chest, arms, abs and legs. Makes you realize just how out of shape your back is in when you do 45# OHP and your back muscles are more sore than your shoulder muscles... My shoulder muscles are feeling fine.

Maybe I'll run and stretch today. I think that sounds like a swell idea.

                          • For $45, I ordered a cake pop mold (to make those perfectly round polka dots), 6 boxes of Betty Crocker Gluten Free Cake mix, and a 4 pack of Wilton brand food coloring paste. I have enough materials to make the cake for Makenna's birthday, AND a test cake to get the technique down. I can't wait! Materials should be here on Saturday. Sadly, Sunday is a busy day so I won't be able to make the cake this weekend - will aim for next weekend, test the process and then make a stellar birthday cake for Bearz on the 27th. I cannot wait to see how it turns out!!

                            • A gal I know lost her son in a car accident today. He was roughly 17. My sister and I used to babysit him when we were younger. I used to drive her to work when she'd lost her license (can't remember why). I'd go to her house, pick her and her son up (who was 2 at the time), take the boy to my mom's house where my sister would babysit him and then take her to work. She was a single mom and never told any of us who his father is. We haven't talked in YEARS - not even friends on FB b/c we were that far unacquainted at this point. Not even sure she'd recognize me if we bumped into each other in Walmart.

Her son's car collided with an ambulance. Doesn't say whether the ambulance was transporting patients or not. There is nothing left of his car. The ambulance looks like it hit a deer and nothing more. I cannot even imagine her pain but I hope more than anything that he didn't suffer. And I hope with all I've got that she can heal her wounded heart quickly. He was her only child.
