  • Jenn--I've been lurking your posts (well, spot-checking anyway) and just wanted to say I am awestruck at your juggling. I live a busy life, but it's nearly entirely of my own making--no kids or husband with competing demands. And I can almost guarantee you that if you got more consecutive sleep, your irritability would go away...so good luck--I'll just throw that wish out there for you.

It's all about the journey. How we get there is at least as important as where we end up.

Not yet. Just hit 183 this morning. I thought for sure it would be another week at least before I'd see a loss b/c I think it's PMS week. No signs though, so maybe it's not time yet... but has been 28+ days so I'm on the lookout. Hoping for another loss this week - or at least next.

YAY! A new reader!! I told Brad what it was like last night and he said he was sleeping lightly enough that he knew it was a bad night. It'll be interesting what the BodyMedia thing has to tell (I got it tonight and it works AWESOME!!). Heck maybe it'll tell me I'm getting more sleep than I thought... I hope not or I've lost any leg I've had to stand on... lol

One or two nights a week I have class to finish up my master's. After that's over I'll be able to better control my bedtime. Right now I'm aiming for lights out at 10:30... speaking of which... it's time to head that way.

      See y'all on the flip-side!!

      • So my armband works! YAY! So excited. It says that out of 8:02 minutes in bed, I slept for 6:33. Wouldn't you know it, the kids slept great last night. lol I had to go get Makenna at 5 and discovered Brad was still in bed... Oops. Dear, you're supposed to be leaving for work right now... so I was awake during the time that he was in the bathroom and Makenna was getting settled in our bed.

Problem though... I can't access the Activity Manager at work b/c the firewalls do something goofy with their site, so I can't click on the link to the Activity Manager. Paula, do you think you could open your activity manager and paste the address for me? I was hoping to do a print-screen of my sleep graph to share with you all. Stupid firewalls - they kill the HTML formating of some sites (even google is affected) and BodyMedia's site is ALL jacked up on these screens. It's done by design - some stupid shit about national security (lol) and it really puts a cramp in my style!

I had a facebook argument yesterday with a gal who posts some pornographic stuff on Facebook. She normally just posts pictures of hot guys with no shirt, but the other night she posted a pic of a guy holding onto his obviously "ready to go" junk through his jeans. I wasn't impressed. She's not the only one who posts crap like that, so just for a fair warning, I posted that I'll be removing anyone from my newsfeed who continually posts pornographic stuff - for two reasons: 1. I don't want my kids to see it, and 2. that shit can get me fired from my job as we're allowed to access Facebook during breaks, but also b/c I do actual physical work on Facebook (our org has a FB page) and to get to it, I have to first access my own page. I don't need someone else's sexual proclivities to get me fired. She was the ONLY person who took offense and started saying that I'm not accepting her as she is, blah blah blah... yes, I am... I'm just choosing NOT to see the stuff you're posting. I didn't delete her and I didn't block her... I just went to her page and unchecked the block "show on my newsfeed". No harm, no foul. Someone went to her page to see what she was posting that offended me and said that she'd posted a status update chastising me for not talking to her first and then went on to say that she didn't even know I'd posted that status b/c she removed me from her feed a long time ago for being whiny and smartassy (I don't consider myself witty enough to be a smart ass, but whatev) so she was told by a friend to check out my status b/c the friend thought it was about her. Now, if I'm not mistaken, she removed me from her feed a while ago and now she's offended that I'm removing her?? Seriously? You're a grown ass woman (in her late 40's) and you're getting offended b/c I'm doing the same thing you had already done to me? WTF over?? People are so stupid. I only posted this status to be considerate, to explain to them that I'm not asking them to stop posting whatever they want to post, just that I don't wish to see it and since I can't just hide certain things from people and have to hide the whole person, that is what I intend to do when people post excessive amounts of pornographic material. Whatever.

I'm about ready to get rid of facebook all together to be honest. I have facebook paired with my phone and when i get a text stating that someone has responded to a post I've made, my heart starts pounding b/c it's usually someone contesting my dietary preferences, which gets me all sorts of stressed out - not sure why. I get defensive and confrontational and that raises my anxiety/stress. It's not worth it to have a pounding heart every time you get a text from Facebook, ya know? But, there are games I like to play and I don't want to stop playing them... maybe I should just stop posting statuses. lol

I made coco-chocs last night (a la winencandy's recipe). According to what I'd read on Sabine's journal they're 2 parts coconut oil and 1 part chocolate. When I was mixing it up last night it looked really watery - like it would produce watered down chocolate, so I made it 2 parts chocolate, 2 parts coconut oil. I tossed in some chopped pecans and sprinkled with some coconut. OMG it's like eating a candy bar!! They're so damned delicious! They'll be a problem, I'm certain of it. I poured it into the bottom of a baking dish and tossed them in the freezer for a short bit then cut them into 24 pieces. I think I ate 4 pieces while I was cutting them. I'll have to really watch myself with them... But oh so good!!

        • Oh and I suspect I'm dehydrated... I've been taking iron every day, but today I bent over to kiss Makenna bye when I dropped her off and when I stood up again, I had a head-rush. Things turned black for a second and then my heart started pounding and I got extremely winded. In a matter of SECONDS! I've had a mild headache since. I suspect it's dehydration b/c the Mayo Clinic says these things: Low blood pressure, rapid heartbeat, and rapid breathing are all signs of severe dehydration. The only liquid I drink is up to three 18 oz bottles of black tea a day, maybe 16 oz of KE tea, but hardly ever any water. So first thing this morning, I walked to the water cooler and filled my 24 oz CamelBak bottle. I'm down to the last 8 oz in it and will walk down to refill it when it's empty. I need to step away from the tea and start drinking more water. It'll probably help my weight loss and IIRC, it's essential when living in ketosis... so chug-a-lug friends.

But it could also be iron deficient anemia based on these symptoms that I have (also similar to dehydration)

Shortness of breath, Headache, Dizziness or lightheadedness, Irritability, Fast heartbeat, An uncomfortable tingling or crawling feeling in your legs (I have had instances since this weekend where it feels like my feet are being stabbed with a million different pins all at once... it only lasts a few second, and it's different than when your leg is asleep and wakes up).

So... going to be chugging the water... and continuing the iron supplements. I suspect the Russian Circus will be in town VERY soon, so maybe that explains the anemia symptoms? Who knows...

Well, bottle's empty... time to go refill.

Thanks, but that's not working. It just keeps taking me back to the homepage. No biggie. I'll log in tonight and send myself the link and see if that works. Maybe it's b/c you're logged in or something... or maybe it's b/c my work computer sucks with all these danged firewalls.

              • Hi Jenn,

Just wanted to express my condolences about your sleep problem.

We too, over here in CA have/had the same problems, so the way we
fixed it, isn't ideal, but it works for us.

My 10yo and I sleep in the same room in twin beds, and my 7yo sleeps
with his father in the master bed.

My 10yo started seeing dead people when he was about 2yo (just like me. great,
runs in the family) so instead of getting woken up 500 times a night, I started
sleeping in his room, then he slept with his father, then when "the baby" came,
                I had my own room.

My husband snores too, and there's no way in hell I can sleep with him anyway, so
no big deal. Coudn't care less that we don't sleep in the same bed. Getting quality
sleep is WAY more important than any kind of Parental CoSleeping is. Srsly.

The 7yo doesn't see dead people, (thank GOD) but he does sleepwalk when he sleeps
in his own room, so HE has been sleeping with his father for the past 5 years and I've
been with my son for 8.

It sounds weird and pretty effed up, but I *do* try and tell myself, that it won't last
forever, AND, sleep is so dang important for EVERYONE to function and be in a good mood,
I really don't care WHERE I sleep or in WHAT. I mean really, 44yo sleeping in a twin bed?
Preposterous! But you know what, I love it, and I know I won't get any "surprises" 500 times
a night either. 3 maybe, but that's it.

Not saying you should contemplate it or do it, but if you do, it WORKS.

And if your husband says anything you could just be like "well, I'm up 1500 effing times
anyway, so if you can't beat them, JOIN THEM". Everyone will sleep beautifully!

I -do- get some pretty weird looks when people come to the house and are all "wow, what
are all these beds for? who sleeps where?"

So, I tell them and they think we're whack, but hey, at least I don't beat my kids, prostitute
them out or sell them on the black market, so if sleeping with them makes them more
confident, secure and reassured (my mother would close and LOCK her door when I was
crying in my room seeing ghosts., thanks mom!), then I'm in it for the long haul.

And, as a side note, it gets you out of the marital bed so you're not PAWED 24/7 either. HAR!

In other news, I hope you get your armband computer stuff worked out lickety split!

                Julie

                • That is definitely an unconventional way to handle the problem. I don't think my son has any issues like that and he doesn't sleepwalk. Last night, he slept beautifully - as did his sister, until about 5 am. There was a time where we were all sleeping through the night without a fuss but recently everyone's been having fits. Husband's snoring would go away if he'd just lose some weight. :/

                  • And MY husband's snoring would go away if he stopped drinking BEER.

Yeah, totally unconventional to say the least! HA!

All righty, hope it all gets cleared up soon. Glad everyone was able to
                    sleep well last night.

                      • Nope, 'twasn't me!

I was named after Julie Andrews (my mother's fave person) who is also
                        really a Julia.

I was called Julie from birth until I got my mits on my birth certificate and
saw JULIA, so when I turned 25, started a new job and a new chapter in my life,
I started using Julia instead, since it was my REAL name and all (and I thought
it was prettier and cooler than Julie).

So everyone in my family calls me Julie, but everyone post 25, knows me as
                        Julia.

Yanno what's funny though? The stupid DMV. I have my birth certificate and my
social security card for PROOF that I'm really a Julia, and they STILL won't change
my name from Julie to Julia. "no, sorry, this is what has always been on there".

Um, really? With government documents? Fools.

When I asked my mother why the heck she named me Julia but called me Julie,
she said "well, I liked both". Um, er, OKAY. Whatever.

So there. There's an explanation you neither wanted nor needed. Tee hee!

That is a funny story, actually! It's odd that the DMV won't change your driver's license! Wouldn't having two different names cause a bit of a problem for public records/tracking down criminals/etc, if you were to ever become one? I know it would have REALLY flubbed things if you'd joined the army! Oy!

Yeah, this girl's real name was Julie, she was in her 20's and went by Julia on the computer so she didn't actually give up much of her identity or something. After she got really familiar with us and comfortable, she started signing everything Julie so we started asking questions. Similar name usage, so I thought it was worth asking about.

My DMV story- 4 years ago I moved back to the state I grew up in. I got my first driver's license there. I also had that license in my married name.

When I came back I had been legally separated for many years. Since my name didn't match my birth certificate they they wanted to see the name change on my marriage license. I had no idea where my marriage license was and had to order a new copy. That cost me $50.

After all that, they reissued me the same driver's license I initially had been given, more than 30 years early. They obviously had me in their system, with my married name.

I think it'll be great fun to see what we can find. I'm reading up on the Geocaching - The Official Global GPS Cache Hunt Site now. There is a cache literally, 10 blocks from my house - we drive by it TWICE EVERY SINGLE DAY and my son is always wanting to stop (historic train depot with an old caboose). Now we have a reason! I guess this one is rather hard to find though...
