    • Hey, how has the maca root been working out for you? P said she takes it for the first 2 weeks of her cycle, so I'm just taking it MWF for the first two weeks of my cycle, for now. Doesn't seem to bother my joints that way. I'm taking 1000mg when I do take it. I definitely notice increased mental focus and overall energy on days that I take it, and maybe a little bit in the other benefits that have been mentioned. Not a huge amount, but it's something. More of thoughts shifting than "feelings".

        • So, I think I might have discovered a correlation...

Recently I've been having a HORRIBLE time avoiding sugar... so I did some thinking and tracked all of this back to the couple of weeks before Halloween - when my first Shark Week was preparing to occur... Remember, I chose not to get my birth control shot on the 23rd of September (or thereabouts b/c the 23rd was a Sunday). Anyhow, I remember my sugar cravings hitting hard just before Halloween and making the connection that it must be PMS.

These cravings never went away though... so I think it's all hormonal, really. Hormones are now flowing that couldn't flow before b/c of the hormone blocking birth control I was using. So, me thinks the binges are definitely related to PMS, which means I need to figure out my cycle so I know what is PMS related and what is just me not giving enough of a rat shit to combat it. And hopefully, my next shark week will occur before 31 December when I embark on my first ever 21 DSD.

I thought about starting on the 1st b/c "new month - new challenge" but I don't like starting things like that mid-week. If I start on Monday, it'll feel different.

I going to start with a level 2, I think. Level 2 is for people who have significant issues with sugar that they feel are nearly uncontrollable, but who have already done a 21dsd before... I haven't, but I have done many W30's, and I think that will be similar enough to count as a 21dsd experience. The number one difference I have noticed in the food options for Whole30 and the 21DSD is that dairy is allowed on the 21DSD, but only full fat forms. I don't drink much milk anyway, so that won't be a problem, but this will allow me to enjoy cheese and butter, so I won't feel as restricted as I do on the Whole30.

I am also going to track my macronutrients during this period - just for shits. To see where I'm at and how things are looking. And maybe as I get more comfy with the 21DSD, I'll work on restricting calories a bit too. I am so tired of being stuck at 190... I've been at 190 or 189 since August 1. I'm ready to move downward.

In the meantime, I'm making sure the 21DSD is pure hell by loading up on sugary stuff now - chocolate, milk, cereal, cocoa... you name it. *facepalm*

Um, pretty much the same thing here. I took 500 mg for 2 weeks then boosted to 1000 mg. I don't "want" it more, but I definitely think about it more. Energy wise - it's definitely giving a bit of a boost. Not sure how much of a boost, but I don't feel tired on the days that I take my supplements, so it could be the maca or it could be any of the other ones I take, really. B's maybe? But yeah, sex crosses my mind more frequently now... maybe eventually, once things get straightened out in the hormone department since quitting birth control, I'll have an increased desire.

              • Happy birthday, Jenn! I lucked out and came on in time to say it without the belated. I'm so glad you're getting fussed over - enjoy it!

It's kind of long, but worth it. The Skinny on Obesity series comes in smaller chunks, also well worth the listen.

Thank you ladies... Judy, don't I know it... but I've already indulged today...

Thanks for the link again, Judg. I'll listen to it today.

                        *****

It's Thursday, which means it's bills day. I did our bills. And I am not anxious about it today... b/c things worked out. We're not short for the week! We're gonna rock it out!

And looking into the future, it seems we're coming out of our deep dark hole. How quickly we can get into trouble and how LOOONNNGG it takes to recover! OY!

Brad and I were anticipating his sleep studies to cost us roughly $600. I just spoke to the hospital and our bill for his first is only $197... I say "only" b/c it's not $300 like we anticipated. So we'll have a little extra money coming up that we can allocate to something else - a race car loan perhaps. We'll officially have the 2012 season paid off next week. *sigh* I'm so ready to be out of debt... but then I'm sure we'll have no idea what to do with our money and will go stir crazy with it... maybe I'll sock it away and not tell Brad we're debt free... I would love to have 6 months worth of paychecks set aside for a rainy day. Dreaming of course b/c our ability to save like that is easily 3 years away.

I do know that one of the first things we'll do is build our deck off the back of the house. We have patio doors in our dining room that open up to a 6 foot drop... And I know Brad's itching to finish the basement - to at least insulate and dry wall it. And I'd like to renovate the kitchen... more like rearrange as I plan to use our existing counter tops and cabinets, but move things around.

Dreams... they sure are fun, if not depressing when it comes to making them financially possible. Maybe I'll get a shot at a better paying job and can make it all happen sooner rather than later.

                          • Confirmed cases of influenza A at my kids' school district. They're in the junior high/high school, so my kids aren't "directly" affected, except maybe Brady who has high school students in the after-school program... they're getting flu shots tomorrow. With Makenna having pediatric asthma, I don't want her getting the respiratory flu. That's a disaster waiting to happen. They were supposed to go today but Brad is working late... I wanted to ask his mom to take them, but he says they can wait til tomorrow. :| gggggrrrrr I disagree, but if they've been exposed, getting a shot even today will be too late... let's just hope we're not too late.

Btw, watching Sugar: The Bitter Truth right now.

Hope your kiddo's don't get sick.

                              • ugh, I hope they don't either. Thanks Tomi.

I think I found a good use for my $25 gift Amazon gift card... the new cookbook Mark put out! I have GOT to find a replacement for things like BBQ sauce, ketchup and ranch dressing. Going to mull over it for a few days as I'd also like to get a couple of kindle books. We (as in me and my personalities) will wait... but I think I do want it.
