  • Sabine, I too am easily amused. I am amused by the fact that for my first three boys I was pregnant on their first or second birthday, but didn't know it yet. Which means I have a boy for each season. And hubby's birthday is Jan. 10, Son#3, July 10, and DD May 10. We do tens. Son #4 was born on the fourth day of the fourth month and both his first and last name start with the fourth letter of the alphabet. And I never even noticed until he pointed it out to me. And all five of my children were born within five minutes of the hour.

My first son came early (according the the doctor's calculations, not according to mine) so I figured the second would come even earlier. Not. He was actually a day or two past. One thing I have learned in life is that neither children nor garden plants read the books about what they're supposed to do.

          • And here I thought you'd pop out 48 for me!
Thanks for the birthday wishes, all.

Came to my journal after just reading Mark's post. An hour a day! I am one of the non-exercisers in the crowd. I've figured I'll gradually work up to it, and am counting on feeling like being more active as I get lighter. Now, here's Mark, calling on me before I feel like it. And yet, I have no excuse. I am healthy, have the number of limbs required, have the time. Ugh. Is there any way out of this?

                • Happy Birthday!

There is no way out! We will walk, and we will be active, and we will like it! Or at least we will do it and moan about it. (That's what journals are for.) Maybe we need an informal support group.

What do you mean, no? No? Don't you mean...yes?

                    And now, Siobhan, too!
That's hardly a majority, though, is it? We do live in a (semi) democracy, after all.

Okay, I'll do it if most of you will.

                    • I agree with Lex. Walking for an hour is 3 miles. I think you could do that pretty easily. I do it over my lunch break in most cases and then also walk a mile with my sister 3x per week, weather permitting b/c we have kids in tow.

Let's do it together. Today, I'll walk to the gym (8 minutes), walk on the treadmill for 45 minutes (while reading of course) and then walk back from the gym (8 minutes) for a total of 61 minutes. I'd love to walk outside today but it's raining and cold and I don't have a coat with me today (but I do have an umbrella, i think... yep, I do). That'll be a total of 3+ miles for me. how bout you? You game??

See, I thought, because you always match mine, that if I didn't do any today, then you wouldn't have to do them either

Don't feel bad...I'm the other non-exerciser in the crowd! Read Mark's blog post...I do good to walk period & I can't even do that well. I have osteo-chondritis (otherwise known as a joint mouse) in my right knee...so it doesn't bend much when I walk. I can sit down & it bends...slowly...but something about the movement of walking normally won't work. Those of you old enough to remember...I walk very similar to Chester on Gunsmoke! I actually need a knee replacement...but ain't gonna happen with no insurance. *sigh* Guess I just am gonna have to swing my kettleball more often.

I hope you had a fantastic birthday today sabine!!!

                              • Okay, here was yesterday:

                                Up at 5:15
Vitamins- I added a multi vitamin to my D and fish oil

                                10:30 pork chop
                                2/3C fried apples
                                1C kale
                                3 sqs dark chocolate

                                2:00 4 oz swiss cheese

                                walking: 38"

                                6:30 pizza!
                                flour-less chocolate cake
                                ice cream !
                                raspberries

                                Bed at 8:00

The crust of the pizza was not as good as I thought it would be. I'll try to remember that for next time, and chose something different. The toppings were delicious, however.

I did a walk to the post office and library, which took 38 minutes. Planning a full hour today. I like to have a destination when I walk, unless I am doing a nature walk. And with gas what it is, I won't be driving many places just to walk. So today, I am going to trek to the farther grocery store for my veges. It should be over an hour, round trip.

I will have more ice cream today, if I feel like it. Semi-planned indulgence. The flourless chocolate cake didn't turn out that great. I'm going to offer the family another piece if they want it, then toss the rest. No snacking on it just because it is there.
