    Results
    - energy 5/10; mood 5+/10.
    - bloating - 4.5mo morning,
    - skin = smoother than yesterday
    - bed 10:30-8, but was awake a while with a familiar pattern, although much reduced: spinning head + abdominal cramps. When it relented, I noticed I could feel my hip bones again, so it was happening with a reduction in bloating. So interesting. Wish I knew what was happening during these times.
    - definite pitting edema on shin. Gar. (will assume it's weekend related unless it doesn't disappear on its own by Sunday)
    - toward evening, started feeling slower, wanting to sit, and more irritated, and arms got bumpier (or sharper on the bumps). weird.

    Forgot to mention a few days ago I found myself thinking that if faced with a cookie cake right then, I could totally eat it. BUT - it was 6 and no dinner yet, 9hrs since last meal. Ate dinner, all thoughts gone. Win.

      • Learning points for the day:

        - Dr. K: someone might have a problem with stomach acid production if she is has poor methylation.
        - enzymestuff.com:
        - animation of steps involved in production of stomach acid: Animation: Hydrochloric Acid Production... of the Stomach
        - higher level animation - taste buds, etc., send signal along VAGUS NERVE to stomach. Gastrin stimulates HCl production via bloodstream. Distension sends signal via VAGUS and continues to stimulate HCl & pepsin. When chyme contains lipds from fat digestion, or pH is <2, Hcl secretion stops. by stopping parasympathetic stimulation, local reflexes in gut wall neurons decrease secretion, and 3 local hormones travel to gastric glands (secretin, gastric inhibitory peptide, cholecystokinin).
        - ask doc for the Heidelburg test - swallow a capsule with a transmitter that reports pH before, during, and after drinking baking soda solution

          - skin = bumpier int he evening. Pimples popped up yesterday - third eye again (but not as bad) + 2 on neck. Really annoying cheek bubble near front of mouth on side.
          - slept 10:45-7:30, woke feeling like it was okay to wake. Sleepy by 1pm.
          - No pitting edema. Pulse fine, although felt a bit weak briefly 10m after rising, probably from yesterday's forgotten Na & K.

          Big win today - I got to go to Mass! I stopped going to daily Mass 6 years ago ... same time I stopped working out and stopped doing housework and for the most part really scaled back on the homeschooling. Last week during Mass I got a sudden inspiration (without looking for it) as to how to get to Mass each day - take a different kid each day! That way, I never have all of them, but they all get to experience it here and there (daily Mass is a great grace, different from Sunday Mass).

          But I've been battling getting up earlyl enough, and trying for the last two weeks to get up before 8 so I could go. I finally have been able to get to bed early enough and rise early enough (even while needing a ridiculous 9hrs of sleep) and get breakfast going quickly enough that I'm done in time to go, and dd has been, too. I was so excited to break through this longstanding obstacle, and it hit me while there that each time I go, I'll offer it in thanksgiving for the renewed health I've been given. That's really what made it possible, and I can't wait to give thanks daily for this renewed gift.

          • Um ... I'm not sure what to blame this on, but ... I just played catch with my husband for the first time in about ten years (played on a softball team together until about 8 years ago, but stopped playing catch for fun well before), and ... caught. every. ball. (Well, until it was so dark out I couldn't see the ball.)

            That never happened, not even when I was 22 & super fit. Not in the height of our ball-playing years. I was always very mediocre, and still am, I'm sure, but I couldn't believe how accurately I was catching - and throwing - the ball.

            Feeling a little weird now that I'm back inside, kind of like my brain/body is a bit tired & spaced...? BUt really, it's been a great week that could have been eve nbetter were it not for the inadvertent poisoning on Saturday night.

                • Not doing well. Yesterday evening I could feel the dull, don't-want-to-do-anything sensation coming on, and today it's in full force. Overwhelmed by the thought of all I have to do (which wasn't much, until I spent 24hrs not doing it), just inclined to sit in a chair and play typing games... want to sleep & cry, arms feel like lead.

                  Bloating getting better while swelling & mood get worse, a week after exposure (to whatever?)...

                  • Hey MamaGrok,

                    Sorry you are having a rough time. I don't have any answers for you, but I deal with the fluid retention as well. DH and I ate at our local Brazilian restaurant Friday night and the next day I was up 3 lbs and had "gained" 1 cm in my upper thighs. It's better today but not gone. Not sure what happened but it's frustrating. Hang in there....you will heal and get to the point where this won't happen anymore.

                    • Amazing ... apparently yesterday morning *was* die-off. This morning I feel great, my wrist dropped 2/16" (very significant for a wrist), all measurements are back to normal or close. I lost two pounds overnight. One week to detox from the dinner, and now I can keep truckin'! (I hope!)

                        • I realized last week that DUH I have a 50 degree water source (no ice necessary) 24/7/365 1 mile from my house - the Chattahoochee River! (water is released from the bottom of the dam = 47 degrees when it comes out, and according to the NPS, rarely exceeds 50 degrees through our area any time of the year)

                          So I finally was able to do it today ... was feeling hot after a hike, even though it was 63 degrees with an icy wind ... took the plunge!

                          My feet were shocked when I walked in, but quickly - REALLY quickly - felt fine. My legs were fine from the start, and never felt anything but warm right after getting in. I sat down quickly (amazing, since I haven't even done that in my 65 degree baths!) and my arms felt pain for about the first minute, then fine. Forearms and hands grew sluggish. I gradually moved deeper, ended up shoulder deep. I had dh time me for 10m, b/c we had to go somewhere afterward.

                          I could have stayed in forever. I quickly felt warm almost everywhere. If I were going for an extended stay, I would have covered hands & head, but for 10m, it was easy. A boat came by and asked for help getting out b/c their battery (?!) had just died. I think they were pretty stunned someone would be swimming on any day in the Hooch, much less one like this!

                          I actually felt warmer than dh who was dry and clothed. The wind didn't make my head or shoulders cold, even though they were outof the water. Hikers going by were in pants and some long sleeves. I was swimming.

                          I felt like SuperWoman.

                          When I got out, I felt warm. I dripped all the way to the car (no towel), and felt warm, even in the wind. It felt like my core & legs were made out of heaters. Awesome! I felt warm in the car, and exhilarated, like I just got off a roller coaster and couldn't wait to do it again!

                          I'd LOVE to do it every day. I think it's wisest to do it with dh, since it is COLD, and the water sometimes rises or speeds up rapidly when they release water from the dam. So I'll try to do it several times a week, at least. A heck of a lot easier than buying ice or lugging frozen water bottles all the time!! And no water bill increase! And birds flying by!

                            • Just remembered - I mentioned to dh that when I get out of the river in the summer on a 90 degree day, I'm usually freezing. Just got out on a 60 degree blustery day and felt warm. What a difference that internal furnace makes!

                              ETA I didn't shiver at all! I did feel somewhat colder the rest of the day than I did before it ... aftercool, takes some getting used to, I'm sure.

                              I still didn't get pink at all. Whatever that indicates!
