    I'm so tickled thinking of someone reading my journal during each cold bath. When I started it, I hoped that some day it would be a help to others, b/c of course, part of that hope was that I would have an 'After' to make the journey one that mattered!

    • Okay, WEIRD end to day. I didn't plan to have dinner and wasn't hungry, but around 7, I got nailed with a blast of hunger and sudden nausea, to the point of salivating, that just gave me a strong intuitive sense I needed to eat NOW. No idea where this came from.

      Ate lamb, gone.

      Went for a walk w/ dh, LOVED it. Noticed I was getting a bit over chatty, dashing from subject to subject, sometimes repeating words or clauses. Like an overwound toy soldier. (DH says he feels this way after having too much protein without fat and has for years, but the lamb I had was very fatty.)

      Is this what hyperthyroid feels like? No shaking hands, but definitely found wound up. Wanted to clean things, and did. Two possibilities - I'm back on the TG (started @ 1, 2wks later upped to 2, 2wks later upped to 3, got the pitting edema, then tachycardia after that left, then dropped it 2 days, went back to 2, got more tachycardia a few days later, dropped it a week, went back to 1 cap/day for the last 2-3 days). Other - Hashi's hyper attack. (Please God, no!)

      Any way to tell?

      I don't know if I should stay at the 1 cap for another week (everyone seems to discourage upping or decreasing without two weeks, always), or maybe just give it another day.

      Anyway, after the walk, I put videos in our new family room furniture. It reeks of horrible new furniture chemicals, and after ten minutes of it being open, I was getting dizzy, with a headache. For the next 20m or so, it got worse and worse, with spinning head, bad bad sudden headache, then nausea. I was reacting like a horribly chlorine-y pool, but far worse than I ever have before.

      Then ds4 hurled. Could be whatever caused my nausea, could be Easter (he had some sweets, but by no means a lot), could be that his tummy hurt last night & this morning. He had digested nothing in the last two meals. He felt better after getting it out.

      So I have some mysteries to solve and I'm sure no one reading this is all that interested, but these are the clues I'm leaving for myself to figure out.

      I am still a bit nauseated. I'll also keep an eye on HCl in this picture.

        Happy Easter to you!

        I'm finally getting caught up (been following along but haven't said hello in a while)...you are unstoppable!

        Count me in as another vote for photo #1. I think you look slimmer in that one, and plus it's more of a full body shot. The angle of your head in #2 shows of your sweetheart face shape nicely, but I still think #1 is the better of the two.

        I am SO intrigued by the cold bath and ice pack regimens. Thanks for the link! I will give it a shot!

        How interesting that you recoiled at the chocolate mints...I took my kiddos to Ben&Jerry's free cone day this past week, and noticed to my utter surprise that I had absolutely ZERO interest in getting ice cream. That amazed me!

        Thanks for being such a dedicated member of the Forum. I especially notice how supportive you are in the Before & After thread, continually cheering everyone on. What an inspiring mentor you are!

        • 138 - new low! This is the weight at which I conceived my third child, over 8 years ago, and haven't seen it since! I was on the way up, having gained 17lb since conceiving the previous one, and not able to stop the cravings, the bingeing, or the gain (or the UTIs & antibiotics that caused them all), all of which was accelerating out of control.

          - ***Hit by whatever it was last night again, but this time while driving and one minute after finishing breakfast. Don't think it's the supplements or food themselves. Don't think it's what ds had, but can't know yet for usre. WHAM headache, felt like vascular pressure from temples to front of nose (but not sinus); counter pressure helps. Nauseated on and off. Lots of runs, but that could have been from a little extra CO. When it let up 20-30m later, intense need to sleep. Am finally able to do so almost 2hrs later, takinga nap now at 1pm. ... two hour nap, felt a lot better afterward, like I have lately, but w/o last night's overwound feeling. I *think* I remembered to take thyroid today.

          • Hi, your posts caught my eye because you are keeping track of "days binge free." That's what I'm doing PB to do, too, to stop bingeing! Is this the only thing that has ever worked for you? Do you have any advice for me for the first couple of weeks when I know the urge to binge will be strong? I am so hopeful after reading your post that this will be possible for me too.

            • I hope it's possible for you, too!

              I've done several things over time that have helped, but as it turned out, all of them are part of what's called "the leptin reset,," and that particular protocol takes them one step further, and it's that step that really sealed it for me.

              Those things are dramatically increasing fat (I had bought hook, line, and sinker into the low fat lie), having at least 4oz of protein with every meal (including breakfast, and for me, it needed to be real protein, not a powder, and not plant sources), removing grains (they kept me craving for sugar, oddly enough), reducing even "good" carbs pretty dramatically for the time being, moving all sweets to meals (and the ends of them - no more random having them during the day), the usual behavioral tricks (drinking water or tea if I feel the desire to eat between meals, etc.), and finally, the one that put the nail in the coffin...

              The BIG A$$ed Breakfast. At least 50g protein (this is essentially 7 units of protein, where a unit is an ounce of meat or cheese, or an egg). That did amazing enough things for the cravings (and completely eliminated my battle against snacking), but I personally felt, even though I was bingeing only once a month instead of several times a day, that I needed to go even further, to 65g, for a while. (Even then, I felt like I could eat breakfast all over again as soon as I was done; my appetite was huge at the time - that said, when I started adding little amounts of protein to breakfast, I was not at all used to eating more than a handful of "light" cereal and skim milk.)

              After a month at that level, not only had I started feeling full after breakfast, but I no longer felt hungry for lunch, either. By that time, I realized I hadn't binged in a few weeks (since the day *before* Halloween!), and since then, my caloric intake has naturally dropped, I've reached countless weight milestones, I've made it through ALL the problem holidays without a binge, and also been able to get to the bottom of some niggling health problems (some minor, some bigger, like debilitating chronic fatigue).

              I still feel *some* desire for certain things (like a mixture of dried fruits & nuts), but revulsed by others (like a certain kind of mint candy I used to love). The things that call me no longer hound me with the incessant demand to eat them, but just kind of whisper to me, and I hear them and say, "Not now. I'm not totally healed just yet," and go about my day, and they shut up.

              It's a miracle for me.

              This journal lays it all out. It starts at the point I had 100% welcomed fat into my diet, totally rejected processed foods, rarely ate grains, ate 25g protein every morning (& lunch & dinner, too), and was down to bingeing maybe once or twice a week, or sometimes went stretches of a couple of weeks, but could not stop it altogether, could not stop snacking AT ALL (was having huge amounts of completely unsweetened yogurt & nuts even though it wasn't really enough to call a 'binge'), and was still gaining weight, even at two months postpartum.

                - had pain along my spine in the night, and now it's pain behind my shoulder blade. From slumping in the tub to get submersed, something weird I did while sleeping, or what?
                - nose is inflamed. Voice is thick (not clear). Don't know why.

                • Aila, I missed your post! Your progress is so awesome! Think of where we both were this time last year, how difficult the whole 40s were, how we both went off track afterwards ... the cravings are getting in control, PBTG!

                  It just never made sense to me that that was how I was supposed to live ... obsessed with food.

                  • Okay, last night I went ahead and had a sweet potato. Last time I had one, I had bloating and bad stuff for a week. AFter recent experiences with non-CO coconut products, I think it's safe to say I have a problem with coconut flesh. And sure enough, checked in my journal and last time I had that sweet potato, I had a TON of shredded coconut that day, too.

                    Experiment went well - no gastro after-effects!

                    Every time I'm faced with eating something that's not a daily staple, I have to go through this long list - is it a grain, dairy, legume, starchy veg, FODMAP, nut, nightshade, egg, sweetener? If no, yay, I can have it! I rarely do this successfully - the list is too long, and I forget something.

                    I went through the list last night and forgot that sweet potatoes aren't on GAPS, but also forgot about total carb count. So the only reaction I seem to have had was a minor carb-woozy-head. Not bad. Lesson learned, and I do think I can have occasional sweet potatoes - say, once/month a small one.

                    ETA Dang, just checked ... sweet potato is a "be careful" on the FODMAP list. Gar! Well, I didn't swell up after eating it ...

                      - Don't know why weight is going up the last two days. Clearly a food reaction. found out sweet potatoes are both starch AND mod FODMAP. CRAP. So tired of this FODMAP crap. Seriously. Like every vegetable on the planet. GAH GAH GAH GAH GAH!!

                          Cold - brief somewhat chilly breakfast, 5m cold shower (felt great - started <lukewarm, moved to full cold)

                          B - soup of broth, fish, fish eyes, sausage, carrot, radish

                          D - "authentic" Chinese food cooked by Chinese neighbor, yum! Included shrimp, trace bell pepp & tomato, sauces, tofu, pork belly, potatoes, bok choy, bamboo, one shroom, two sunflower seeds

                          Results
                          - energy 6/10; mood 5/10.
                          - bloating - bad after dinner, not surprisingly. I know there was sugar, obviously soy (unfermented), and soy sauce (= wheat, likely). Oddly, the Chinese brand sunflower seeds had artificial sweeteners & "spices" in them. It was delicious and great company, and really not appropriate to question all the ingredients or not eat (which would have been the only solution to avoid the bad stuff). I expect it will take a week to lose the bloat, weight, water, & inflamed nose
                          - skin = smoother than ever
                          - slept 11-8:45, interrupted by non-productive strong abdominal cramps mid-night, couldn't sleep for half hour

                            Cold - 5m in 50F water, 10m in 55-60, legs, hips, rear, back. VERY invigorating, and my back felt HOT after a few minutes!!

                            B - soup of broth, gristle&goo, sausage, carrot, radish, CO

                            D - pot roast & tongue in broth YUM

                            - energy 5-6/10; mood 5/10.
                            - bloating - big after meals, of course. SIX MONTHS by bedtime. !!
                            - skin = upper arms bumpy. Hello, poisons leaving through my skin.
                            - slept 10:30-7:45, did NOT want to wake; VERY sleep & big headache. sleepy till I got outside
                            - pulse not bad this morning. Very high while skating, but didn't feel bad. Could still be from the blood draw in Jan
                            - inline skated on the Greenway for 2mi each way witha swim break in between. Skated faster than the kids and lasted the whole way, so that's great! Physical exercise 2 days in a row! And tonight DH said, "If you feel the energy for it, and can get quotes for ..." He's never taken that into account before (not b/c he's callous, but bc I think neither of us really knew what was going on until lately), so that's a great sign that he's getting what's going on with me,and also celebrating the huge strides made in the last couple of weeks in energy & mood increase.

                              - bloating - 5mo this morning. WOW. Look SIX months pregnant by bedtime.

                              - pulse not bad this morning. Very slight pitting edema on left shin.
