    Results
    - energy <3/10
    - bloating = 3mo in morning, 5+mo at night. Is it the (lots of) shredded coconut, tiny sweet potato, or handling the kids' butter?
    - skin = absolutely silky smooth all over!
    - sleep very disturbed last night. took forever to fall asleep - increasing spinny mind, then RLS kicked in on right (top) leg, then babygrok started thrashing every now and then. She slept horribly all night, and I kept having very confused dreams and couldn't understand what was going on (it's been a few years since I was having these occasionally, where I'd be half-awake and have no idea what was up or down or whether I was human or not or what was hanging to my breast (baby) ... totally out of it). Around 7 she started waking every 5-10m thrashing and kicking me and fussing. Gave her another detox bath in the morning. She's totally unable to handle any disappoint right now. Am I poisoning her with the detoxing through breastmilk?
    - COLD last night even before bed (and the house was the same temp it's been)
    - felt utterly listless this afternoon. 10m nap, lots of couch-lying.
    - Is my brain coming back a smidge? Little-used vocabulary is popping here and there into my head and I feel like I'm learning stuff a bit better (like that daggum kruse website!).
    - found the coconut addictive like coconut milk/cream, but it's not that easy to binge on, so safe, lol

I think the 10:30 could be lower but you would notice a problem sleeping if it wasn't low enough. I agree that inflammation may be the culprit skewing your ferritin (maybe because of gut issues???). I know people who supplement iron and take vit c with it for maximum absorption. Have you tried taking doses of vit c? I'm curious as to the success of that strategy for increasing vit c levels with an end result of iron absorption.

        - skin = soft, nearly hairless above knee & elbow
        - slept hard, still bloated in the morning. Woke feeling like I had only 2hrs sleep (had to get up for an event). Stiff, achey ... remind me next time I say I never get achey. But I didn't have nightshades - I had tiny sweet potato, lots of organic coconut, and touched my children's butter (barely). Dairy didn't make me sore before, nor did it kill my sleep. Did I just erase all my progress trying to wipe out Monday's accidental dairy & rice syrup??!
        - not warm last night.
        - inline skated some today, enjoyed it! It's been a long, long while.
        - BT on vit C around 6-7g. Been hitting 7-8 several days this week with no BT.
        - took detox bath w/ 2C epsom salts at night. Made it too hot and got woozy from the evaporating chlorine, daggumit, but I still think it was helpful.

        These setbacks are temporary, I know, and learning points, but discouraging, anyway.

        • My rings were tighter after Monday's accidental whatever, then looser again yesterday (Friday), till whatever was in dinner puffed me up again. Calf had been at 14.5", was up to 15" Tuesday, back down to 14.75 Thursday, back up to 15 Friday.

          What is this swelling? Why does the body do it? What is it responding to?

          My voice clarity had been coming back fully by Thursday, too, but wasn't improved any more yesterday and may have been worse.

          Edit 4/9/2012 - Given what's happened recently with coconut manna, coconut milk, & coconut water, I think the coconut shreds were the culprit, not the sweet potato or CO or touching the butter.

            • DH mentioned that perhaps teh reason I need so much more vit C than others is my impaired absorption. Certainly possible. I don't know if that works for vit C (since I have fat malabsorption and formerly insufficient HCl for protein absorption), but worth keeping in mind.

                - pink nose
                - less clear singing voice
                - bloating
                - leg swelling (15.25 yesterday)
                - rings stop spinning

                - pop fingers more??
                - sore abdomen (or is this dairy-specific?)

                  MamaGrok - I assume your lower legs swell judging by the measurement? For me it's my thighs/butt/hips after eating.

                  Which digestive enzymes do you use? I switched to Zypan from Standard Process and I think they work better than the ones I was using before which was Source Naturals Pancreatin 8X. I also use ox bile. Can't say it helped with the bloating but since using it I haven't had my supposed gallbladder attacks (I don't have gallstones so not sure what those attacks are) and my stool is consistently brown whereas before it was rather pale and/or would change depending on the color of food I was eating.

                  • Yes, calf is what shows the measurement the most, but I also get swelling in thighs & whole arm. Right now I have enormous stomach bloating and I don't know what it's rom.

                    I used Kaire Labs digestive enzymes, and now have none. I didn't notice anything from them. I actually have happy stool, relatively speaking, lol, so the fat malabsorption was a shock to me.

                      - bed at 11, woke at 5:15 & couldn't get back to sleep, despite being very sleepy. Lie awake 2hrs, think I may have slept a bit at the end, but still was quite ready to get up when I did. Thought about the past and think that energy in general has gone along with me waking at less than 8hrs in the past year ... will watch for a pattern. I've long thought that my excessive need for 8.5+hrs of sleep per night is from something wrong with me and will go away when I fix things, whatever that is. Could it be as simple as the "intake food / expend energy" balancer?

                      • Just remembered that sweet potato's not on GAPS. Maybe it's a problem for me with the leaky gut. I've gained almost 4lb in the 3 days since eating it ... in swelling!

                        • Just remembered another thing ... Thursday I soaked rabbit in soured milk, then washed mine off thoroughly and fried it all. Could the residual milk proteins either on my rabbit, or from them all being fried in the same oil, have caused me to bloat/swell 4lb over 3 days? It seems ridiculous, but maybe. I'd prefer the former to the latter, too; I"m not at all in the mood to be obsessive about cooking my food completely separately from the rest of the family's.

                            (had two orange slices a few days ago I forgot to write down)

                            - woke at 5:30 somewhat alert (after 7hrs), but finally got to sleep (6?) again. At 7:30 couldn't get up with alarm, woke at 8 very, very drowsy (9hrs). Sleep at 10:30am.

                            woozy after KeVita, blood sugar was normal.

                            • shijin: After reading Dr Kruse’s response on the Perfect Health blog, in Sep 2011, regarding increased LDL in some people on a paleo/primal diet, I realized the crazy cortisol I had, in combination with the high LDL I was dealing with pregnalone steal syndrome, and my brain had turned off my hypothalamus-pituary axis, essentially shutting down my thyroid to a maintenance level, which was making it difficult to lose weight. It also explained why my Thyroid panels (TSH and T4- were normal!) This became a vicious cycle. So I continued to make LDL, but the cortisol was shunting the pregnalone so I wasn’t turning the LDL into the appropriate sex-steroid hormones. This was my biggest AHHAAA moment in my quest for health. I then focused on fixing the cortisol through the use of adaptogens, I gave up my beloved coffee for decaf, and I stopped working out.

                              Isabell just reminded me of the fact that dr k says carbs should be highest at the meal where cortisol is highest. Pre-test, I had assumed my cortisol was upside-down, but it's not ... and so I need to be focusing on carbs in the AM (whatever ones I'm going to eat). I wonder if this could help my abysmal midday cortisol level?

Had several ounces of sausage + some smoked meats to try to calm my woozy head, then a whole bottle of "enlightened" GTs ginger kombucha.

                                Results
                                - energy 5/10 morning, 3/10 afternoon
                                - bloating = 3mo morning,
                                - skin = soft, elbows less soft
                                - woke at 5:45 somewhat alert (after 6.5hrs), fell asleep at some point and slept till alarm at 7:45, ready to get up but by no means "alert" or "refreshed", just not "dead sleepy." Guessing I got another hour in between 5:45 & 7:45? Quite alert most of the day, but sleepy bby 10:15.

                                Starting GAPS intro stage 1 again today. This time I'm going to heal my leaky gut! I just have to remember things like no seaweed, and simmering all meats this week, and no cayenne (nightshade), and not touching my children's eggs or butter, and ... !

                                Very perturbed and somewhat scared after messing up today. I know it'll make the next few days harder, but also, just knowing it's likely another week or even two of backtracking, not losing the bloat, messing up the warmth and sleep and energy gains I made ... sigh. Lesson learned. Offer it up. Get up tomorrow and do my best.
