  • I was trying on more clothes today to see if I could wear anything new and noticed that when I'm not tightening my abs (a habit I got into in high school out of vanity!), I look like I'm at least four months pregnant. And I have the pics to prove it:


    And the bloat's actually significantly down from yesterday! Crazy stuff...

    OTOH, at least the muscle that's been hiding under there all these years is beginning to peak out... a wee little bit:

      • Well. Ahem. I just had a MAJOR carb crapola day. Don't need to do that again. I got that not-at-all-missed feeling of being short on breath and realized that it was because my gut swelled up so much it was preventing my lungs from fully expanding ... I really WAS having a hard time getting a full breath all those years! :banghead:

        Oh, well, won't do it again tomorrow. I'm accountable here.

          B - 3 eggs in CO (felt nauseated before eating from extremely low blood sugar)

          S - yogurt w/ 1/2 banana
          D - steak & kidney stew (w heart, too) w/ veggies. Cheesecake (made by dd)

          Felt my stomach inflate like a balloon within five minutes of eating the cheesecake (which used honey instead of sugar, and half the amount called for)

          • Here we go! New Year!

            154 - 33 pounds lighter than this day last year.

            The day I had the stollen binge, my belly literally looked 8 months pregnant. It's back to 4 months now, lol (and no, I'm not pregnant!). I think I'm sick and tired of it enough now. My sole thought for the last 12hrs has been "I am getting RID of this bloated belly!" So this week, it's zero carbs (other than non-sweet veggies). It's the dead of winter and I'm of Northern European stock; my body in no way needs fruit right now.

            Ready. Set. Deflate!!

            B - 3 eggs, 1T CO
            L - leftover steak & kidney stew, leftover taco & sour cream & bit o' cheese & salsa
            D - meatza w/ lots of veggies

            Uh oh. I felt my gut inflate after drinking my kefir. I just started making it two weeks ago, and really like it. I let it ferment for 24hrs, then strain and ferment 24 more hrs. Why, oh why?!

              Heavy nap at 1 today. Felt like i got hit by a truck of sleepiness right before that. Weird. Been having that the last few days, must be left from this sickness I had last week. All the symptoms were flu symptoms, but I never felt that bad. But half my extended family had it the week before, so that must be what it was. if that's the flu on quality food, I'll take it! (well, better yet, be like 4/7 of my immediate family and not get it at all. 1 of the kids got it about half as bad as i did, and another got it for about 6 hours and was done!0

              • 152. Bam! All the weight gained from when I started Radiant Recovery (and for the first time, made myself eat nourishing foods, even while still eating the sweet crap, so I quickly gained 10lbs) is now gone. Next milestone: 145, the lowest I weighed after BG#4.

                I think my gut still has at least two pounds worth of bloat in it. I'm about 3 months pregnant looking now.

                    D - salad w/ like 3 golden raisins & restaurant vinaigrette, giant angus burger w/ cheese & a fried egg on top over greens (you always get the good stuff when you ask the chef for no bun), collards. Not even tempted by the bread or dessert

                    DH reports being bloated after our meal out. Could it have been the vinaigrette? Or for me (I was about as bloated as last night), could they have put wheat flour in the burger? (it's a fancy restaurant)

                      Slept ~8hrs. Very sleepy at noon. made it through without napping. No sun or play, but some wonderful time with my daughter, and no brain.

                      Okay, great measurements today!! I've lost an inch in my hipbone & "pocket" measurements (got these weird little pouches of fat just to the outside and up of my pants pockets when I got fat) in the last two weeks, and half an inch at the top and upper thigh ... that must have made up the entirety of the two pound weight loss, even though I thought that was all in the belly. Soooo ... I can add 5 pair of pants to my repertoire from those I haven't been able to wear for nearly five years!

                      • Okay, I compared my measurements to this time last year, which were the same when I went primal a month later. Most dramatic losses:

                        - just above chest: 4 inches!! I can't believe that
                        - waist: 8 inches. holy moly. It was actually 10+ inches if you count my individual best and worst measurements.
                        - hips: close to 8 inches
                        - thigh: 2-3 inches.
                        - forearm: 1 inch. That's a lot of fat for a forearm!

                        Feeling human again. I've had energy this week - DESPITE being crazy sleepy and having a very stuffy head. I remember that I didn't used to care about being sick at all b/c it just affected my nose & ears & mouth and I'd just go about my business. That happened this week. And I proved to myself again, as I once knew, that sleepy and tired are not the same thing. I was dreadfully sleepy, but still able, and more importantly, WANTING and preferring to get things done. I haven't felt that way for more than 1 day in a row in ... gosh ... five years?

                        I have energy, people! Energy! I'm not bouncing off the walls or anything, but I want to DO stuff again. It's exactly what Taubes talks about in his books - fat people aren't fat b/c they're on the couch. They're on the couch & they're fat for the same reason - insulin resistance. It's going away, slowly; I'm peeking through the veil; I can see my life again.

                        I mean ... I was sleepy as all get out and sick, but I preferred to move than to sit. So I did. That's living!! I had the most productive week I've had in years, and that included two hours naps almost every day and having a drippy cold. My life is coming back!

                          L - chicken salad, ~cheese, larabar. Done with the fruit & nuts now again. I guess as far as slips go, this one was pretty minor. I've been dreaming about buffets full of sweets now (literally) for the last two nights, so I gotta batton down the hatches and fight hard against those cravings till they go away again!

                            L - finally got the homemade lunch meat down - put some rub on a sirloin tip and roasted it to med-rare, then sliced thinly. Yum! So that plus mayo & horseradish rolled up in romaine.

                            D - pot roast w/ tomatoes & peppers

                              • For future reference, recipes for today:

                                Salsa Dressing: salsa mixed with homemade sour cream

                                Bleu Cheese Sauce: homemade sour cream & mayo mixed with bleu cheese crumbles

                                Sour Cream: I took cream skimmed off our raw milk, mixed with a spoonful of sour cream (TJ's says it has live cultures), and left it at room temp for 3 days or so. Oh my gosh, it is rich, smooooooth, and oh so creamy. No thickeners, no additives, no ultra-pasteurized nonsense, and it's probiotic!

                                I think the actual term for the sour cream is Creme Fraiche, but I'm not really sure of the difference

                                And I forgot about the cheese I ate today - I attempted to turn two gallons of two-week-old-but-not-yet-souring raw milk into yogurt, and while most of it did, some of it turned into something different. Instead of the whey on top, the whey was on the bottom, and the top was a spongey, not-sour, cheese flavored something. I strained it, and I really think it's quark. I wish I knew what happened! I know I used different jars of yogurt and whey as starter, which must have been the key, but I don't know what exactly was in those jars, which had been in the fridge for months. I wish I could replicate it; it's delicious! Very much like cream cheese. I think I'll make a German cheesecake out of it ...
