    OK, I have been doing the leptin reset since 1/10 and it's time I start a journal. I am still pretty hungry and not snacking between meals is a challenge. I am hoping that journaling about it will help.

    Are you getting enough protein at breakfast? And how much fat are you getting?

      I started with 50 grams of protein and now I am up to 75 grams plus an extra 2 or 3 T of coconut oil. My upper body looks leaner while my lower body seems to be expanding - and it's not muscle! I am not happy about this.

        I've read that a number of people doing a reset may (and a number of people do) gain weight until they become leptin sensitive. Are you doing the Jack Kruse reset? His blogs are very useful for info as are the comments posted.

        How much protein are you getting in your other meals? Are you exercising?

          Yeah, I am doing the JK reset. For lunch I have been eating just broth or broth with an egg. Dinner is maybe 60 grams of protein. I am on Valtrex for EBV and CMV and stopped it. I had other issues like depression and anxiety, and I think part of the "weight gain" was fluid retention. Talking to my doc about it tomorrow.

            Here it goes. I think I am finally committed and realized yesterday that I have done 3 weeks so far. My background is long but the short version is that I have Lyme disease and Babesia, possibly other co-infections, fungal overgrowth, parasitic overgrowth, POTS, adrenal insufficiency, hypothyroidism and a host of other issues.

            Three weeks ago I went to see Dr. D who is one of Dr. Klinghardt's doctors in Seattle and I am on a butt load of supplements, natural antibacterials, Diflucan for the fungal overgrowth, Valtrex for EBV, CMV, and various other viruses, and during the next full moon I am supposed to take Biltricide for two days. Wait two weeks and repeat. DH will be taking it, too.

            She also wants me to do coffee enemas 2 to 3 times a week, an anti-microbial retention enema (1 scoop artemisinin, 1 garlic capsule 1/4 cup warm water) twice a week at night, and I have to use an inhaler with garlic and iodine drops in it every day for a year to get rid of viruses and bacteria in my lungs.

            With all this going on I doubt that I am leptin sensitive although most of my blood tests came back normal. I am doing the leptin reset Jack Kruse style in hopes of it helping me heal combined with everything else I am doing.

            Soooooooo, to follow MamaGrok's style, here's my day yesterday. I have actually been doing pretty good in the not snacking department, but last night I not only snacked, I snacked on half of an apple and drank some diet Coke. Bummer - but today is a new day.

            I am not overweight but I have gone from lean and slender to skinny fat. My abdomen has been permanently distended since November 2008 so the only measure I have right now - sort of - is my thighs. They were about 55 cm when I started and they are still 55 cm with small variations every day. It does seem like my upper body is a bit leaner with more definition in my arms, and it seems my thighs and butt aren't as jiggly although they are the same size. Not sure if that's possible.

            Leptin Resistance goals:
            - Breakfast w/ 50-75gm of protein yes
            - Breakfast w/i 30m of rising yes
            - 5+ hrs between Breakfast and Lunch yes
            - 5+ hrs between Lunch and Dinner no, 4.5 hrs
            - 3.5+ hrs between dinner & bedtime no, small snack around 8 PM
            - no snacking no, see above
            - exposure to morning temp & sun no sun
            - darkening the house at sunset yes
            - 100% primal diet no, had a few sips of diet Coke (very unusual for me)
            - <50g carb per day, GAPS (no grains, sugar, legumes, lactose, or starches) possibly a bit over
            - no PUFA's other than FCLO yes

            B - Roasted chicken fried in tallow, one egg, 1/4 cup homemade sauerkraut
            L - Bone broth, one egg, a few pork rinds
            D - Really, really hungry by 4:30 PM; savoy cabbage, onions, roasted chicken fried in coconut oil
            S - half of a small apple, coconut oil

                This morning I woke up with horrible anger which is one of my many die off symptoms. I also felt like I was retaining fluid and sure enough my thighs are bigger today. My belly is also more distended. Usually I am distended in my lower belly, below the belly button, but today my entire abdomen was distended right from the start. The only thing I can think of is that it's from the ferments I ate last night. A while ago I made kimchi and added l. reuteri drops and l. acidophilus powder to them. Maybe that kimchi is stronger than I thought.

                Week 4, Day 3
                Thighs: 55.3-55.4 cm each -???
                Belly: Very distended???

                  Yesterday I thought I was retaining water but maybe I am gaining weight.

                      Have you ever thought of going all-meat for a while - no vegetable fibers? Reading Chris Kresser's stuff made it seem like if you have a really bad bacteria/parasite problem like H. pylori, that might be necessary. The gas that comes from digesting vegetables feeds the H. pylori. I might try that sometime this year, but I'm going to exhaust other options first.

                        I ate ZC for about 2 years. I did have an occasional "splurge" of veggies, but I went month eating just meat and fat and it did nothing for me. I thought it would when I first read about it.

                          Good to know. I wonder if you ate ZC for a month and then took probiotics while still on it would make a difference. Maybe it's about the order you do these things. It's interesting anyway to read journals like yours to see if any of these alternative diets and habits work.

                            I tried no probiotics, taking probiotics, no ferments, drinking fermented veggie brine, etc. It's mind boggling that nothing has helped.

                            I seem to remember an interview with Kris Chresser where he said if it's fungal overgrowth a ketogenic diet could make it worse, so maybe it's fungal overgrowth.
