The thing I'm seeing is that you might have enough sugar (from fruit, condensed milk, etc) in there to make your blood sugar levels go up and down and up and down.
Most people don't realize how much energy it takes for me to pretend to be normal.

If I wanted to listen to an asshole, I'd fart.

Twibble... I stepped on the scale today and was unhappy to see that in 5 days my weight went UP nearly 2 pounds. So I guess you're right. Sugar is getting into my diet even though I'm buying organic ingredients and eating far more meat, eggs, vegetables and have completely eliminated grains. Right now I'm eating some primal nut bars I made and the recipe included chocolate chips. They taste great but now I'm wondering is that forbidden sugar coming in again?

        Primal Eating for Day 6

Still kind of in shock that my weight went up nearly 2 pounds in the first 5 days of this eating plan. I need to dial this in. Anyway, here's what I ate today.

        Breakfast:
        Coffee with cream
        Banana
        A few fresh raspberries

        Lunch:
Hamburger patty with cheese, mayo, mustard and ketchup
Green salad with yellow pepper, avocado and italian dressing
        Diet Coke

        Snack:
        Primal nut bar

        Dinner:
Baked chicken breast with butter and paprika
        Cooked carrots with butter
        Glass of red wine

I bolded the places I'd look for sugar in your food. It seems that most of your vegetation is the type that is high in sugar. Fruit & starchy veggies normally have quite a bit.

            Today's Primal Eating

Hey Twibble... thanks for highlighting all that sugar. I just saw it as I was finishing dinner so I will log my day of food and highlight for myself what sugar I consumed. Grains aren't an issue so far for me.

            Breakfast:
            Coffee and cream
            About 6 fresh raspberries
            Hard boiled egg
            Small piece of cheese

            Lunch:
(ignored the pizza served at my working lunch meeting)
            Green salad with lime juice
Raw carrots, celery dipped in ranch dressing. Jalapeņo jack cheese cubes.
Kale chips (tried them as they had no grain in them... kind of funky)

            Dinner:
            Glass of red wine
            Ceviche
            1/2 avocado

Did I highlight the sugar sources? I think I did pretty well today because from what I've read berries are good and red wine is okay too in moderation.

Carrots and lime juice are both pretty high in sugar as well, but definitely less than the day before.

Then again, I'm not even posting mine right now...too expensive to feed 4 adults who eat like 6 (I don't eat more than one person...others in the house do) on primal. I'm working on cutting out the sugar and the worser grains.

Boy... I'm used to looking for OBVIOUS sugar sources (candy, cookies, ice cream) and cutting back on those. But now I have to watch sugar in vegetables and lime juice??? Eeegad... well it's all a learning process.

I did get some walking in today so that's 3 days of exercise this week. Great change from doing zilch!

                  Today's food:

                  Breakfast:
Rasperries, blueberries, blackberries with a couple spoonfuls of plain yogurt and a drizzle of honey

                  Snack:
                  Raw almonds

                  Lunch:
Tuna mixed with mayo, relish and onion
                  Olives
Chocolate flavored protein powder smoothie made with almond milk

You don't HAVE to, but if you really want to cut it, it's easy for it to sneak up on you in fruit and such.

and I do appreciate your interest and guidance. Keeps me from being surprised and disappointed.

So to finish out my food day:

                      Afternoon snack:
A non primal Cafe Mocha at Starbucks

                      Dinner:
Baked chicken breast with butter and paprika topping
Cucumber salad in vinegar marinade that I sweetened with Truvia.

Was very busy with lots of physical activity over the weekend (yay! breakthrough from previously not moving!)... but I didn't blog my food because of it. So here I'll put down what I remember eating starting Sunday and going backwards since this is Monday morning. And my weight is down 2 pounds from when I started a week and a half ago.

                        Sunday:
                        Steak
Cobb salad with blue cheese dressing
                        1 glass of red wine
                        mango sorbet

                        hard boiled egg
                        peach yogurt
                        coffee with cream

                        steak
green salad with blue cheese dressing
                        glass of red wine
                        one beer

1 and one half Scotch Eggs
blackberries, raspberries, blueberries with drizzle of honey
                        coffee and cream
protein shake with frozen berries and almond milk

                        1/2 roasted chicken
                        broccoli
blackberries, raspberries, blueberries with drizzle of honey and a couple spoonfuls of plain yogurt

protein shake with 1/2 banana and berries
                        coffee with cream

The exercise I've done over the weekend includes one 40 minute walk, another beach walk for an hour and 40 minutes and a 45-minute bicycle ride.

So thanks to Twibble I can look back and see lots of sugar in the fruit I've consumed here and perhaps too much red wine and beer. Is it important to cut back or cut all of this for health and if I intend to lose 30 pounds and a bunch of inches? I'm still reading the book and working to figure out how to do this well and in a sustainable lifestyle way.

Look at the carb curve in the book. It should give you a pretty good idea of where you should be.

Hi Califwoods...if I may jump in here & say welcome! And maybe give you a few pointers. Most of all this will make more sense after you finish Mark's book. It looks to me like you may not be eating enough protein in the morning, & way to many fruits. If you are trying to lose weight it is recommended that you limit or eliminate fruit altogether. I have about 90 pounds left to lose & I only eat fruit once a day...sometimes not at all. Fruit is high in fructose & will make your blood sugar go up & can stall any weight loss if you eat too much.

It would also be a wise idea to eliminate the diet drinks. Try to drink more water. Before going Primal I was a huge Coke drinker, so I understand that its hard to give up. Also be cautious of the honey. Even tho its "natural" its still a sugar & the body will treat it as such.

Congratulations on your decision to try the Primal Blueprint. I've only been on it since Jan. 3rd (when I went "cold turkey") & I've lost 10.5 pounds in 4 weeks! Mark's book & this website will help you figure it all out. This is also a wonderful support system that he has created!!

                              Good luck on your journey!!

Hmm... food for thought, Cajun (heh heh... pun intended!) I will continue reading and adjusting. So let's see if I can do a backwards food journal for the past couple days.

                                Today:
                                About 4 oz orange juice
                                1 granny smith apple
                                coffee with cream

                                Beef kabob and chicken kabob
                                tabouli
                                green salad with mustard dressing

                                2 diet sodas

                                a handful of almonds

                                celery sticks with cream cheese
                                2 beers
baked chicken breast with butter, paprika and turmeric on top
                                fresh spinach with butter

                                Yesterday:
Fruit smoothie made with unsweetened almond milk and protein powder
                                Coffee with cream

Romaine salad with plain yogurt, lemon juice, blue cheese crumble dressing

A couple bites of cheddar cheese
                                2 beers
                                a few fresh raspberries
