  • Super. I'll do that. Sweet potatoes, eh? Fun. Yep. I can do that one. Just made a mung kitchari with zucchini and ghee over rice. I used cardamon, black pepper, garlic, and Himalayan salt during cooking and turmeric and asafoetida at the end. That was tasty!

Luke has voice lessons a few blocks from Whole Foods today, so I'll get a sweet potato and do the lentil soup. Thanks for the recipe.

        Lentil Soup:
Soak lentils. Then boil potato (i used to use sweet potato) and carrots. Put it all in a blender with crushed tomatoes. In a pot, melt butter and brown some crushed coriander, cumin, and garlic. Readd the blended mixture and add some salt. It should make a thick soup. Delicious over rice! There is no science to the balance of the veggies. Essentially put them in the blender with good ratios so that the blender doesn't back up- that's always been my guideline. Try it I guarantee you'll love it!

Edit: Oh! and for fun you can add some grilled chicken tossed in curry powder and some cooked spinach once the soup is hot. You won't need to cook it for very long because it's essentially all cooked. You're just bringing it up to the status of "hot meal"
I just bookmarked that in the to-cook category - YOM!

Glad you're feeling better. Not that we should be using food to overcome life's problems, but that sushi and clam dinner sure looked like something to be happy about.

        • You know, it took me years to develop a real taste for lentils and beans. They were never high on my enjoyment list. But I learned a bunch of recipes that were real winners, and now I can't eat them. *sigh* Acquired tastes can be the most addictive, I think. I think I'll set a day aside once or twice a month to "cheat" and eat lentils or black bean soup. DS made a killer hummus last night. He's getting tired of primal...

Any ideas on what to do with tahineh? Other than making hummus?

          • Tahini with garlic and lemon and Himalayan salt and whatever else strikes your fancy makes a great salad dressing.

I am loving beans (pinto, black) and certain lentils (black, green, French) and chickpeas now. Asafoetida, where have you been all my life? :-)

I would definitely fall in love with perfecting a pork rind.
Wow. I want to try this. I was just talking to someone from Germany yesterday, and she was saying that Bavarian food was amazing...mmm...

                  • Tahini mixed with a bit of salt water and vinegar to thin it makes a really good spread over grilled eggplant. Mix salt, 1/2 cup water and a tablespoon of vinegar then slowly pour it over 2tbsp of tahini while constantly mixing. You'll want to add the mixture bit by bit or else it'll all separate.

For the eggplant- in a colander put 1/2" slices of eggplant, cover in salt and let it sit until the liquids rise out of the eggplant. Rinse, pat dry then grill. Spread tahini over eggplant... Delicious!

                        • @Judg Cookin for me was something that I've always enjoyed. As much as I liked mom's cooking growing up I always looked at it and thought to myself "how would I make this better?". Eventually it was the same with everything I ate- at home, at a friends place, in a restaurant, wherever. Now I can look at almost anything and figure out ways to make it healthy and enjoyable.

@Alesse I picked up some MCT oil by the way to try it for myself first. I took it first yesterday and I've got to say my energy levels were instantly up and my hunger levels were instantly down. I felt satiated for 4 hours off of 1 table spoon. I took a double dose today to see what would happen... interested feeling... it's like my skin was hopping... too much energy I guess. it all subsided with a nice long walk though.

Breakfast- IF (Forgot to eat on the way out)

Excercise. Spent about 2 hours wandering the city barefoot. freakin awesome

                            Supplements- 2TBSP MCT, 30000mg Fish oil, 6000ui Vitamin D

                            Today

Breakfast- Big ass protien breakfast with a buddy 3 jumbo eggs, 4 slices of bacon, 4 chicken breakfast sausages, approximately 3/4 cup mixed fruit

Lunch- cup of raspberries, some pork rinds

Dinner- I called it a fish taco?? and I had 2. Romane lettuce topped with 1/2 a salmon sausage each, goats milk yogurt, tomato, parmigian (sp?) cheese, mustard, franks hot sauce. Big ass salad on the side.

Exercise- 1 hour barefoot walk similar to yesterday's and as soon as I'm done this post im going back out for another walk.

Supplements- 2TBSP MCT, 30000mg Fish oil, 6000ui Vitamin D (Same as yesterday)

I'm slowly working on cutting out almond butter from my salad dressing and replacing it with tahini. After mark's post on nuts I'm thinking I should re-evaluate how I approach them.
