  • Bacon freezes. Or, you could cook it all up, nice and crisp, to make bacon bits, freeze those, and have a good batch of bacon grease (also keeps well). That way you could parcel out your bacon taste over a longer period of time.

    • Oh, that's a good idea. I will freeze it.

      • I rode my bike to work today. I wore the blue shorts in my picture. Normally I feel very self-conscious in such flimsy short shorts. Today I totally didn't care. I wore similar shorts to my exercise class at lunch because the weather is warm. Again, I had a total fuck-it attitude about my legs. These big beefy legs are my legs, so what? That's what I've got. The cool morning air felt good on them on my bicycle. I can show off my big tattoo with my legs bare. The warm noon sunshine felt good on my legs. Yeah, these hunks o' meat are what I've got for legs, big f-in deal. Time to get on with my life.

        • lol. I think you over thought that a little too much.

Cook it first, then it is "easier" to use.

            • Today my appetite was minimal. I had a big breakfast of grassfed beef, a piece of bacon and 2 eggs and coffee. I brought some broth to work for lunch. It seemed like really salty broth was making my rash feel better, but I keep not making it salty enough. I really didn't want the broth but I drank it anyway. I also ate some chocolate I had lying around. I shouldn't have. I wasn't really hungry. I came home and felt like I probably wouldn't have dinner. Eventually my stomach was growling so I cut up some of the beef I've been eating every day and some broccoli and nuked a sweet potato and made a coconut curry. I ate half of it and didn't want anymore so I put the rest in the fridge for later. I had a banana about to go bad so I cut that up and put a splash of cream and some cinnamon on it. Wow, that was a fabulous dessert. I do not feel stuffed or full. Just satisfied. I like it when I feel this way. Myfitnesspal says it was less than 1000 calories.

Not much exercise today. I walked to the grocery store. My glutes are killing me from class yesterday.

              • I woke up not very hungry yesterday. It looked like it would be another low hunger day. But I rode my bike to work (18 miles round trip) and did my core fitness at noon and ended up quite hungry instead. Calories were almost 1500. Oh well.

I do notice body composition changes in myself that are good. The core fitness classes really help. They are totally worth the money.

I am bothered by a lot of things on this site that do not make sense, however. People say "chronic cardio" results in loss of muscle and people getting fat. If that is true, why are all the women on the track team so gorgeous? Why do the women out running along the bike path have fabulous muscles and are perfectly shaped? Why are all the bike riding men in their racer-boy outfits so totally lean and muscular?

                • I made a fabulous bison rib-eye steak last night for dinner. Oh man, I've become the expert in fabulous steak-making. Melt-in-your-mouth goodness! After you eat something like that, you're simply satisfied, not stuffed, not empty, just happy. It was an $18 steak, yikes!

My boyfriend is nearing the end of his 2+ week hike. He's two days away from his destination. It was the last rib-eye for a while. He's having a great time and he has been able to experience some of what I did on my solo trek of the Pacific Crest Trail. I think he'll understand better now what I went through. He already has learned the lesson I did about your gear, that most of it isn't all that necessary and you really don't have to worry about not having things if you forget or lose or have it break on you. There's always a way to improvise and obtain what you need. Always.

                  • As I sit here enjoying my last day to myself before I bring home my boyfriend, I'm thinking about my 2 meat weeks. (Mostly meat, lots of grassfed chuck roast, but not particularly low-carb or anything.) I think the positive effect has been that I've drunk less wine and eaten less chocolate this week. As a result, my still and forever 30" waist looks flatter and has less side-roll/love handles going on. My boobs look smaller. I think they're going to disappear soon. Otherwise, everything's much the same.

Thing that seem to be helping me these days:
                    - Riding my bike to work about once a week (I'd like to make it twice).
                    - My core fitness, especially the new female instructor we have who is so good at killing your abs.
                    - Otherwise not really exercising very hard.
                    - Iodoral instead of Potassium Iodide. I think the iodine does something that the iodide doesn't, but I can't say exactly what.
                    - Not sure but maybe my OTC dessicated thyroid helps. I only take 3 a day so it's pretty weak if the stuff even has any effect at all.

I think all these things may be responsible for feeling particularly energetic and happy these days. Probably having the house all to myself helps, too.

                    • I drove 5 hours yesterday round trip picking up my boyfriend from the trail. He had a really good time. I'm so happy for him. It's my turn this weekend. Leaving Wednesday night and I'll start hiking on Thursday. He's got all the good trail beta for me about water and cool places to camp. This will be the last 20 miles of the PCT that I haven't done and then I will be able to officially without any excuses say I've hiked the entire 2663 miles.

I picked him up from a place called Hikertown. Some guy bought a piece of property and didn't realize it was on the PCT and listed in the guide books as a place to get some water in the desert. He decorated all the buildings like a faux wild-west movie set with the idea of filming movies (What kind? Porn?). Then all these hikers started showing up looking for water. So he hired a caretaker who has turned the place into sort of a hostel during the hiking season. The guy (and the place) seemed a little strange 4 years ago when I hiked through (no hostel then, just a windowless trailer probably infested with hanta virus), but now he seems really normal and nice and the place is all fixed up and is a really nice stop along the trail. He even gave me a half dozen fresh eggs from his chickens. Took them right out of the nest.

Anyway, I was there at his place a year or two ago. The caretaker remembered me, remembered my name. I got my first compliment since losing weight from him. Yay.

                      • That's pretty cool, it's cool that you were memorable. And I think he did do a porn movie there, I've seen one kinda like that...back in my younger days, I swear.

                        • That's really funny. It was always sort of a scary place to me, definitely gave of a creepy vibe, so when I heard it was supposed to be a movie set, there was only one kind of movie I thought it could possibly be. It seems more wholesome there these days. They had 5 little cute puppies, too. So fluffy and cute!

                          • Yay, I'm going backpacking tomorrow. I leave tonight. I hope my food works out. Some of it has soy and MSG in it (Chinese pork fu which is dried pork with the consistency of cotton candy). Some of is fake when I thought it was real (Tapioca Pearl is just tapioca starch and other fake stuff formed into tapioca-shaped pearls, damn Chinese and their fake stuff). And I'm bringing a whole bunch of whole dried anchovies. They don't taste bad, but they are already starting to smell a little fishy. Also bringing coconut manna to make curry for dinner (with the anchovies, pork fu, tapioca pearl and thai curry paste.) I hope the coconut manna doesn't melt and spill everywhere. I've got it in a tupperware inside a plastic bag. Other than that, I've got dates and macadamia nuts, a pouch of tuna, pemmican (hope it doesn't melt too much), hard Jack cheese and lots of coffee.

My biggest challenge is going to be not hiking too many miles, not rushing through it. It is too easy for me to believe I'll hike only 20 miles a day and then I'll hike 25 or 28 instead. I really want to refrain from this. So I have lots of coffee to linger over in the morning, a musical instrument to pass the time, and a book to read.

I'm going to bring my huarache sandals and try to hike in them some of the way. Those will slow me down a bit. The rest of the time I'll hike in Chacos.

There's a swimming pool and hot tub near the trail close to the end so I'm looking forward to a detour for a little soak.

                            • I'm jealous...googled Chacos, wow, that's pricey. I'm assuming that they're worth it. Have fun and reload the brain! And if you come across an old mining town and hear cheezy 70's porn, run away, do not walk away. That one does not end well.
