  • Primal Challenge Journal (Christine)

    My husband and I have been doing CrossFit for about 1.5 years. We decided to go Primal and use the Paleo Diet as well. we have fallen off the Primal wagon the last few months (we moved from Nevada to South Carolina which caused the fall )

    We are anxious to get back at the Primal way of life and CrossFit on a reglar basis. It is hard for him because of his job in law enforcement. I am a Level 1 CrossFit trainer and will be starting to help him achieve his fitness and nutritional primal goals. We like to be able to have our cheat days but those days have seem to come more and more... As of yesterday we started to go Primal.

    Our activites include Krav Maga, Muay Thai (Kickboxing), CrossFit (as stated ), and running

    My biggest qualm is coffee...I was drinking about 5-6 cups of black coffee a day. i have begun to limit it to 1 cup per day in the morning only.

    My goals are:

    1. Limiting coffee intake to 1 cup per day
    2. Losing fat that has developed from eating unnaturally.
    3. CrossFitting 5 days per week
    4. Feeling more energetic
    5. Feeling less fatigue during workouts
    6. Enjoying the feeling of being free from foods that are bad for us.

    Day 1 - 9/12/2011

    B: 1 whole egg and 2 egg whites scrambled with basil, 1 cup mixed fruit, 1 cup of black coffee
    S: 1/2 Protein Bar
    L: Salad with Cucumbers, Celery, Radish, Carrots and oil/vinegar and Tuna
    S: Celery Sticks with Almond Butter
    D: Paleo Stuffed Cabbage

    Exercise
    1. Krav Maga class (1 Hour)
    2. WOD - 5 Rounds for Time - 20 Double Unders, 20 Push Ups, 20 Kettlebell Swings, and 20 Situps

    Day 2 - 9/13/2011
    B: Eggs and black coffee
    S: 1/2 Protein bar
    L: Salad with chicken
    S: Apple with Almond butter
    D: Paleo Stuffed Cabbage

    Exercise:
    WOD
    3 Rounds - 20 Dead Lifts (95#) and 10 front squats (45#)

    My biggest challenge to this challenge is motivation! I work two jobs (14 hour days). And when it comes to working out I somtimes feel a bit lazy!

    L: Shrimp Stirfry
    S: Protein Bar
    D: 2 Paleo Stuffed Cabbage

    Exercise:
    1 hour of Krav Maga (Round Kicks, Front Kicks, Side Kicks, Back Kicks)

    Weight Loss: 4 pounds

      Day 4

      today was a bit of a challenge for the exercise perspective. working two jobs doesn't always afford me to workout. but I was walking around quite a bit at work.

      B: black coffee, a zone perfect bar, and 2 cups of mixed fruit
      S: green apple with 1 Tablespoon of Almond Butter
      L: Paleo "chicken marsala"
      S: EAS Advantage Carb control cookies and cream protein bar
      D: Chicken breast and baby carrots (raw)

      Exercise: moderate walking

        Hi Christine. Welcome.

        I sometimes snack, but it is ideal to eat enough at meals to skip snacks or even skip meals.

        Are you trying to avoid saturated fat? Shifting from frequent eating to eating bigger meals with plenty of fat and protein may help with energy. But maybe you need more carbs too. You don't mention wanting to lose weight so you may want to go higher. Experiment.

          I snack to maintain my metabolism. I eat small meals to help to stabilize my metabolism, curb my hunger, and maintain/lose weight. I am also trying to eat healthy fats. Thank you for the information. I will try it.

            Day 5

            B: 1 cup black coffee, 2 whole eggs, 2 egg whites, with onion and basil and 4 slices of Turkey bacon
            L: Chopped salad
            D: Salamon, cabbage salad, and artichoke

            Exercise = 0

            Weekends are hard for me to stay on track with my exercise and eating. Trying to manage it all

            Day 6: 9/18/2011
            B: 1 cup black coffee, 1/2 medium grapefruit, and 2 fried eggs
            L: Carne Asada
            D: Roasted chicken steamd baby carrots and broccoli

            Exercise: Housework

            Day 7:
            B: 1 cup black coffee, 1 EAS Edge Advant protein Shake, and Banana
            S: Zone Perfect Bar. Strawberries and blueberries
            L: Carne Asada Paleo style
            S: 1/2 EAS protein bar and large peach
            D: Paleo stuffed cabbage and baby carrots

            Exercise:

            30 minute high intensity Kettlebell workout.

            My goals are to maintain a primal diet while losing body fat and weight. Weight loss goals is 142 pounds..... current weight 153 pounds. Overall weight loss has been 4 pounds.

            Maintaining my activity level and my Paleo lifestyle will help me to achieve my goals

              Day 8

              It is getting much easier to achieve my goals as the days progress!! YAY!!! The sugar cravings are down and I have been able to maintain the 1 cup of black coffee per day. I may try to cut that out too.

                Day 14 (9/26/2011)
                home sick with a head cold and stomach bug
                Fasted most of the day
                Ate mostly protein, fruits and veggies when I was able to eat.

                Day 15 (9/27/2011) Half way!!
                B: 1 cup black coffee, 1 EAS Edge Advant protein Shake, and Banana
                S: Protein bar
                L: Chicken ceasar Salad with lemon juice and olive oil
                S: 1/2 EAS protein bar and large peach
                D: Chicken stirfry

                Exercise: walking - nothing strenous as I am still fighting a nasty head cold.

                          Pick a weight and move it as many times as possible
                          from the ground to overhead in one minute. Calculate
                          your power output: Power = load x reps x your height(inches)
