  • I need to get to the point that I will not eat gluten or sugar at all. How do I get there? (rhetorical question)

The scale is now my daily friend again due to this crazy wt. gain issue. Hope it stops soon.

    • I truly wish I could figure out the switch that clicks to make my brain transfer from the diet/cheat cycle to the this is the way I live cycle. Once I am in this mode it is so right and so comfy. Then something, who knows what, switches it off, and I am in a downward spiral of dieting and cheating and recriminations and weighing in to see if that last change worked.

Paula, I know exactly where you are, I was there when they put me on the prednisone and then I got to come off of it. Very frustrating.

Ruth, I honestly think that getting to the philosophy stage is how I will be able to make maintenance work.

      • Yes. It's odd about about the switch. However, I do note I'm going longer and longer with periods where the switch is "on". I'm taking that as a good sign

        Have a wonderful day! {I'm rather cheery for some unknown reason today}

          • I am so thankful that you said that. Sometimes as I am rambling I think that if anyone was reading before I just bored them to sleep!

I am going to compare today's numbers with the earliest number I have for each of the measurements, from the start of the low carb journey which started April 1, 2011-Primal started August 20, 2011 and SPEED started October 10, 2011.

My highest weight was 289.8, current weight is 254.8 that is 35 pounds lost!

                Upper Arm was 17" now 15".............down 2
                right Forearm was 12 is 11.5............down .5
                Chest was 48 now 45.5...................down2.5
                Waist was 41 now 38 .....................down 3
                hips were 53 now 47.5....................down 5,5!
right Thigh was 30 is 27 .................down 3!
                right Calf was 17 is 16.5..................down .5

The first Body Fat % I took (from the scale) was 10-1-11 and was 54.9% so 6 months later I am 10 pounds lighter and my BF% is 52.1% which is down 2.8%.

So the results, while I am not tearing up the scale, 35 pounds down in a year is respectable and I will take it! But I think I am ripping up the tape measure! Total inches lost in a year....17 inches.

For me the most telling are the losses in the hips and thigh and they explain why I am in a smaller pant size.

I am happy with the numbers and my next weigh in will be the 30th of April, next tape will be the 15th of May.

p.s. for a little truth in advertising, my low weight for this March was 251.6 so I am up 3.2 pounds in the short term.
yeah you!!! That is great! Who care what the number on the scale says!

                  • I am continuing to work my way through Dean Dwyer's blog. I should probably limit myself to only reading one post a day, to allow myself to absorb what I need to get, but there is so much insight that I can't seem to stop myself.

So what I am working on, besides my philosophy, is the CORE5. That is 5 core things that I do no matter what. They have to be general enough to work in every situation.

                    So far I have...

                    1. I do not eat crap
                    2. I track, journal, or in some way keep track of what I eat
                    3. I make the best choice possible every time
                    4. I use transgressions as learning experiences
                    5. I put myself first, if I don't put my oxygen mask on I won't survive to help others put theirs on.

So it is a work in progress. Open to ideas!

gotta go, have a date with the treadmill!

                    • Very nice! I love #5.

I also think for me I'd add: food is not for comfort, or because I'm bored, or tired, or angry, or happy.

                      • For me I think that "#3. I make the best choice possible at the time" covers the not for comfort/bored/tired, because if I need comfort I need to call/email/text a friend, if I am bored I need to move on to one of my kagillion projects, if I am tired I need to rest/nap, etc. It also covers those situations where I have no control over the food choices, that is just life and I will make the best choice under the circumstances.

so I have started investigating his site. Some of it is pretty good. I am not sure where he stands with some items I think are loopy but a lot makes sense. I like your list BTW.

                            • I think like everything else, you have to take what works for you and throw the rest out. Eventually I am going to hit upon the right combination and hit my goal weight and stay there!
