Good to get a different view point on such a horrible subject.
It has happened with statutory rape in Hermesmann v. Seyer in Kansas - a 13 year old boy was statutory raped by his 17 year old sitter who became pregnant. She successfully got child support because he consented (despite the fact he is not legally able to consent). The same happened in California but this time the boy was 15 and the woman was 34 (San Luis Obispo Count y v. Nathan J.). Texas and Ohio also have laws where men can be forced to pay child support even if he was raped.

In Alabama a man was forced to pay child support to a woman who raped him and in Kentucky a 14 year old was forced to pay child support to his rapist even though the state didn't prosecute the woman for statutory rape.

So yeah, it happens. Got to love our legal system. Imagine the shit storm if a 34 year old man raped a 15 year old girl. I bet she wouldn't be paying him money for 18 years.

    • Sad, very very sad. The sorts of decisions that just make you bang your head against a wall.

          ahh, much better idea!

These decisions show that gender stereotypes hurt everyone.

Indeed they do, but hey, on to happier things. Dudla is doing good work and that is fantastic. Sorry, I was not meaning to drag down the whole tone of your journal.

            • No worries! It is an important issue, and as you can imagine, I am used to having these conversations!

Ok, so to change the subject...I finally finished painting the backgammon board for my BFF. I will give it to her when I do her hair on Friday. unfortunately I can't seem to load photos anymore. So you will all have to trust that it is stunning :roll eyes: I painted the background a lovely light turquoise, then painted palm trees onto that. I like it, it has a fun beachy feel to it.

Today I am doing a sunflower picture for Dudla, and a piece for my high school BFF. They are mixed media. I have transferred an image onto a canvas. For Dudla's I am going to use acrylic paints to enhance it. For the other, I transferred a B&W photo of her eyes and am going to add a quote about eyes seeing that she has posted several times on her Facebook page. It is a retirement gift for her.

I am also working on clearing out the basement. Spent over 3 hours yesterday and got down to one of the tables and all of its chairs. They were so piled with stuff you could hardly tell what they were. Today, I start on the shelves so that I can organize the stuff on the work tables. I am diving in! ttfn.

                  • Jealous of all this basement talk. I've always wanted one but never lived anywhere where on was possible. Speaking of jealous, awesome artistic abilities there dude. Heck, between your art, P's performing, and the talents of many others around here one day you all could start some kind of primal artists colony.

                    • I love all the artistic people here! How wonderful to give something you made with your own hands I think those are the best gifts.

I have never even been in a basement. Always thought it would be creepy to have one But then I read a lot.

                        • That is unreal. And yes I agree with Doc..let's bang the judge and jury's heads against the wall for a while. I doubt it would help w/ common sense but it would make us all feel better. How horrible. What a stupid stupid world we live in.

Our basement is not at all creepy, we have one section of it with turquoise walls and a painting of Elvis on one of them and a graffiti wall where every visitor the kids have had over the years has signed. There is a tv with a wii, couch and giant pillows, a little stereo. Then of course my "artist studio" is down there, and yes, unfortunately lots of junk. The kids use it as their hang out/overnight space.

Canio, love the idea of an artists colony! I read recently where people are creating retirement communities around shared interest. Problem for Honey and I would be finding a shared interest.
