My "Program": doing my version of a 4:3 - 3 day fast diet with real food every day, with a little twist of anti-inflammatory mixed in.

    • I'm praying it does, too. Not a lot...but a little avocado, a bit of chocolate, etc. would make life much more enjoyable.

        • I am pretty sure life without avocados would be a lot less fun! Sorry.

OMG, I found the DD food porn page. Most of it would easily be primal and low carb, and easy to make. I am getting excited.

          • Sabine has also started. Her DD and UD are the same as mine (so far).

I do recommend starting with an UD. I cannot imagine coming into this if I had eaten my usual 1000-1200 calories. I could have managed, but not well.

              • I'm being positive and assuming that it works for me. I did tell myself I had to give it 2 weeks (unless something major happens to my health as a result).

                • I would note that there is a little talk of binging. So, I've been watching that. However, I think if you eat pretty nutritiously (while enjoying a few indulgences), then the need for binging is less. Like I said, I haven't felt like that (yet) on my up days.

                  • I think careful planning will be in order. I expect I will have less trouble with binging given I will be able to say wait you can have it tomorrow. I am just not good with the idea of long term deprivation. One day I think I can handle. Especially when I look at the ideas they have for quantity of food on the DDs.

I may also have to have my DDs on days I work, so I may only get 2 in a week. I will see how it goes though, don't want to dampen my spirits before I start.

                    • Last Sunday (my first DD) was mentally hard, as it was my first, and it was a weekend (no work) and I was home. But, drinking lots (and lots) of water and tea helped.

There's a neat thread where one lady made 35 calorie mini-meals and ate one every hour. They were easy things - cucumbers with dip, coffee with HWC, etc. If it was all prepared ahead of time, it would be a good option for something like a weekend day.

I plan one "normal" meal with DH. The rest, tea, water, broth. Not so bad, actually.

                      • And, yes, planning and pre tracking on DD helps me a lot.

I actually did it about a year ago and then convinced myself that it didn't make a difference. It did, I hit a low weight at that time.

I know that the AS burns out the sweet receptors in you tongue. I don't think for me it causes increased cravings. I binge whether on them or off them. The possibility of insulin release is interesting though.

Rosedale talks about the high saturated fat content of dairy and red meat. We'll see if going without it makes a difference.

                          • Funny. I do better with red meat. I do not do well with a lot of chicken, etc. But, I'm convinced that we are different. DH, for example, really does well with chicken.

                            • ok, so I will be trying the JUDD with Ruth and I think Sabine. Tomorrow will be my first up day as I will be eating lunch and dinner out. Saturday will be a down day, which should not be overly hard because I have to work 1 to 5 which encompasses my witching hour.

I am going to continue tracking and doing blood sugar and plan to start blood ketones as soon as BS drops into the 80's. My goals are to keep close to my macro percentages 80/15/5 or 75/18/7 no matter what day I am on. My up days will be up to 2250 calories and my down days I will shoot for below 450 calories.

Edit...I am actually pretty good staying close to vegetarian, adding a bit of seafood and the occasional bacon is great with me. I have been doing less seafood and doing bacon daily to try to keep my percentages right.

I was wondering if the AS might have been contributing to the binges. It will be interesting to see if giving them up makes a difference at all.
