    • what is crown, scotch? I think it falls right in after red wine. He has red wine as the top choice.

My "Program": doing my version of a 4:3 - 3 day fast diet with real food every day, with a little twist of anti-inflammatory mixed in.

      • Well how is this for a kick in the pants...before I started Primal in August of 2011, I was doing low carb and had lost 22 pounds. But was feeling uncomfortable about the fake stuff. I had already started easing that stuff out of my diet when I found MDA. When I started MDA, for some reason (and yes I read the book) I stopped doing low carb, well stopped VLC. I stopped tracking for the most part, started eating more red meat.

Well I just went back to the days I was tracking before I started Primal and well you guessed it, my weekly averages were pretty much the same as what I am trying to do now, but it seemed like less work. I wasn't trying to limit my calories or protein, nor was I trying to increase my fat. But once I stopped doing induction (at less than 20g of carb a day) and started feeling good, I was averaging 30g of carb, 150g of fat, and 70g of protein and 1750 calories! and losing weight. go figure.

Even funnier, my "breakfast" was pretty much the same as now (I was using eggs instead of whey, but I am now just using the whey up and had planned to do eggs when I run out).

So that actually makes me feel better. I can relax a bit (not on carbs) I did it before and I can do it again.

          • yes, and that I was doing it with much less stress on the numbers. Although I have to admit I am not sure I got into ketosis, the stix did not stay purple, but we all know how unreliable they are. I don't remember exuberant energy, but I was getting things done.

I have noticed lately that my creative juices (my brain ideas) have started to go crazy. The next step is to actually do some of the stuff I dream up!

Yesterday was a good day, 4th clean in a row. I am still waking up with puffy fingers, which I don't understand. Then about 3 hours awake and my rings start spinning. It is weird. But it makes me start thinking "maybe my lowest weight is not first thing in the morning, maybe I should take one day and weigh every hour" then I realize why it is a good thing I don't do the scale anymore!

Sleep continues to be wonderful. I am taking the 5htp, but not 100% certain it has an effect but will continue until I am done with the bottle and see what happens. I have started to track my meds and supplements in MFP, so that I will know what I was taking and when, and so I can remember if I took them or not. I am terrible about remembering to take my meds. In all the years I was on the pill, I don't think I remember one month straight without having to double up at least one day. Cannot believe I didn't get pregnant!

So sleep last night 94% efficiency, I was in bed 8:15, and slept 7:31, there was one very long straight stretch and 3 shorter ones. I still don't pop happily out of bed, never been a morning person though, so this may never happen!

            STATS:
            Calories 1697
            Carbs 28g (30g)
            Net Carbs 19g (20g)
            Fat 150g (140g)
            Protein 72g (75g)

            • Ok.. I am waiting to have this restful wonderful sleep everyone speaks of. I was awake AGAIN at 3am. I am thrilled though that you have found what works for you. If you can unlock the chemical problem, which our bodies are essentially a large chemistry kit, you can get it to do what you want!

                • Hi I decided to stop in and browse through your journal. I am glad to see that eventhough it has been a long process you are not giving up. I was 225 3yrs ago, today 173. It has been a very long and slow weightloss for me with ups and downs and many methods tried along the way.

                  • wow, foodie, thank you so much for the encouragement, I really appreciate that. Especially knowing that your journey though long is being successful.

haha, the only chemistry class I took is the one that caused me to change my major in college! I can do math though!

Karin, I thought that it was the whole exercise issue and the fact that basically I don't, that was keeping me from getting a good night's sleep. Apparently not. Maybe if you evaluate your meds, and more importantly when you take them to see if that could be causing a problem. Maybe taking them with a meal or at breakfast if they might be the issue? I still wake up about 3 times a night, and one is almost always 3am, but fall right back to sleep. I do remember that I woke up, but not how many times until I look at the fitbit report in the morning.

One of the things that I do is to force myself to start to bed at 9pm (during the week anyway). I go through my bed time routine and get into bed within 15 to 20 minutes. I also added a floor box fan to kill the noise. Its hum is usually enough to even keep me from waking up when DH comes to bed (after he wakes up from napping in front of the tv in a recliner) somewhere between 11:30pm and 1:30am. wonder if it isn't the dogs moving around or something like that?

                    • Well, I take my meds in the morning. Although I am considering a advil PM at night. I downloaded an app on my kindle with resting sounds and turned that on. Eventually I could relax enough to get back to sleep. At least for the last hour and a half.

                      • So its not the meds then, rats that would have been an easy change.

I really think the box fan (prior to the dietary change) made the biggest difference. If you can find one now, it would be cheap! although I do sleep better when I take tylenol. I think that I wake up because I have slept too long in one position and the hip or shoulder start to nag me.

                        • see, I have wondered if its "hidden pain". You know that pain that is not easily recognized? I am going to try the PM stuff tonight and see if it makes a difference.

                          • yes, I just wish there was a non-drug way (and that means supplements and herbs too) that I could get the same result. Maybe when the extra weight is gone? Or maybe I should start yoga again.

                            • I think when the weight is gone and takes the inflammation with it, a lot of the problem will be solved. In the mean time, give me drugs..wait.. LOL
