  • No. Your daily average is going to be 1,380. That's the beauty of UDDD. Lower average calories, but every other day is a blissful day of eating. I like it better than aiming for 1300 each day. [Of course, it's early yet...but I'm finally seeing results again]

    • *slightly confused*

1380 seems too high for a DD

      • see, I thought the same thing till Ruth pointed out the 2 day average. My plan, once I really start doing this, is to keep carbs and protein within my range and use fat to increase or decrease my calories. So my Net Carbs will still be below 15g, and total Carbs below 30g and protein below 70g. I plan to use my down day as my green veggie day though so the carbs may creep up a bit.

p.s. this is in response to the question before Ruth gave you the average.

        • I was taking (2383 + 477)/2 = 1380. One day is pretty high, one day is pretty low. If you alternate days, you average out.

          • no no, your down day is 477, 1380 is the average of the down and the up

Your down day is not supposed to go over 500.

            • ooook. So let me see if I have this straight. I alternate UD 2383 and DD 477 which gives me an average daily calorie count of 1380. I just do UP one day DD another day, alternate the fat to make the calories.

Chris- I have been looking at your food journal and kinda see this. Are your ratios similar to mine?
Ruth- I checked yours out too and notice you eat on average 1x per day on DD's.

Looking at journals is so helpful to get ideas! Although, Chris I can tell you are really playing with your vitamix!

              • Yes, I think our numbers are very close. Although I am really just shooting to get below 500 calories on my down days. They allow for this on the JUDDD web site, it just slows the weight loss. At 20% my dd's are supposed to be below 450 and ud's are 2254, at 25% it is dd's 564 and ud's 2254. But I read that, at least in the first 2 weeks you should not let dd's go over 500. I will get strict with it and monitoring and tracking, next week. For now I just do the best I can. This week Sun, Tues are down and Mon, Wed are up technically. But since we are driving on Thursday I will probably go pretty low then, go high Friday and low Saturday for the drive back.

p.s. the low carb friends website has a dd food porn thread, lots of great ideas, many of which are primal or adaptable.

                      • Ok. I have to agree trying to meet a daily calorie requirement etc. is tough. I am going to give JUDDD a go. I am sure I will struggle in the beginning like anything however I think its doable. I have done IF in the past and this will be similar. So, no time to start like the present. Today is an UD. My question is this: Do I need to ensure my fats are high etc. to help carry over to tomorrow? Tips and suggestions welcome.

                        • * Eat up to your UD calories. This helps sustain you through the DD.
                          * Try to eat balanced on your UD. I usually allow myself a small treat (baker's chocolate with unsweetened sunbutter).

                          * Preplan your DD. Seriously. 500 calories is completely doable, but not if you don't plan.
                          * Lots of liquids (more difficult for you since you teach).
                          * Salt as needed.
                          * Remember - the next day you eat again. You can do anything for a few hours.

                          • yep, what she said. Look at the low carb friends UDDD food porn thread, I tell ya, they are very creative. And a cup of bouillon or two at lunch has very few calories.

                            • YMMV, but my results indicated that I had to wait a week before I saw results. Give it at least a full week (preferably two).

                              • For me, it seems like if I do my "breakfast" smoothie (modified) for my lunch, and just do my matcha tea with either the coconut milk or almond milk for my breakfast, it works well for me. I may switch out "food" for the liquid lunch once I get into this, but I am trying to keep day time calories low so that I can have a nice dinner. If I do fish for dinner, my boys don't care for it, so there is no question about why my dinner is different than theirs, and fish (or shrimp) has a great nutrition to calorie ratio.

p.s. you may have noticed that I have given up dairy on my dd's, fewer calories that way. But I use a whole cup of the milk with my tea, and drink it iced. And I still use stevia. Since I broke down and had Diet coke this past week while looking for easy caffeine and I still came back a pound lighter even following imperfectly, I am thinking artificial sweeteners are not likely my issue.
