  • It's kind of awesome how this is sort of a progress journal, and I'm neither setting goals nor attempting progress. Also, nutella and roasted/salted pistachios is the shit.

    • Hey guys! How goes it? Lots of wild stuff going on in my neck of the woods, and I thought I'd share some pics.
First, Mr. Steakhouse and I have been seeing a lot of each other lately, with both of us being snowed in, and the gov't shutdown (he works for the gov't). He was called back in to work today .

We had a little snowstorm here: 19" in one day, and 31" total. Some of the surrounding communities had it worse: one little "mountain town" had 45". The same storm system produced 9 tornadoes east of us. According to the local news, 22,000 homes are still out of power (my dad's being one of them). Power lines snapped and caused a number of fires (this happened to my ex while he had my kids, and also to my dad). They never actually plowed most of the streets: warm temperatures followed and the snow melted very quickly. My street started out with knee-deep snow in the middle (it drifted against my side door, covering the entire thing). Weather the next day was so beautiful, I strapped on some snowboots and walked to the nearest grocery store, mostly for the fun of it. So eery; I live next to a busy street which was absolutely dead except for foot traffic. The saddest part of all this is the damage to our older trees. A very high percentage of all the deciduous trees I've seen around town have been badly damaged. There are a couple of guys in my back yard right now, swearing and cutting the broken limbs fully away from the trees.

The view from my back window: at this point, we were literally snowed in. Lots of branches down.

Mr. Steakhouse climbed out a window to shovel us out.

The white truck was stuck in the road from Friday evening until Sunday morning. Vehicle on the left front is a minivan. It was kind of entertaining watching him try to free his vehicle; not so entertaining watching the idiot later speed up and down our street repeatedly after he freed his truck. Maybe his intent was to break up the snow, but he could have easily skid off the street into a car or pedestrians.

Sunday provided fantastic snow men weather. We also made a little ramp out of the snow for sledding.

      • Wow! This seems so early for snow, but I have no idea what it's like usually where you are (northern central US or something like that?). I hope all is well, weather aside!

Oh, it's too early here. Last weeks temperatures were in the 70F range, and this upcoming week will be in the 50s-60s. Snow started on Friday, and it's almost completely melted now.

I had to snap a quick pic before he met his untimely death from the hands of her brothers.

              • Hi hi, good to see you. Love the pics. Love snow. I've never seen 45" though! We just got our first cool spell down here, and not listening to the constant hum of the air conditioner is making me a smiley camper. Cute snow baby.

                • Hey buddy! Good to hear you're still alive. Mr Steakhosue sounds fun. Good for you.

Love the snowmen. Snow seems crazy (since we've just come out of winter and are heading into shorts and t-shirt weather).

                  • Hey guys! It's been a while. Lots has changed in my life in the past year. Mr. Steakhouse and I have moved in together into a lovely house in a lovely neighborhood. We adopted a dog.

                    1393256727201.jpg

Hmmm...feel like there's more but now I can't think of anything... oh and my ass no longer fits in my bigger jeans. So...I'm back. Of course Mr. Steakhouse could care less but I would like to avoid buying another wardrobe.

I've picked a great time for cutting back; I just bought a ton of hippy junk food to try to bulk up my kids. They came back from their dad's with strep and my oldest hadn't been eating much, so now is frighteningly skinny. Enter gf waffles, cinnamon raisin toast, chips, crackers, Popsicles, frozen tater tots, and a fridge void of vegetables. Hopefully I can get them to gain a bit of weight but it has been hard getting them to eat much.

Anyway, last night while eating my second piece of buttered toast, which was preceded by a buttered, syrupy waffle,I decided was time to go back to low carb, lowish calories. I need to walk the dog more, too, but it's fracking cold outside. And maybe workout 3x per week.
Breakfast this morning: sausage and gingery zucchini noodles.

                      • Thank you! How have you been?

Kids had waffles for breakfast. I didn't eat any.

Dogs are awesome. We're slowly working our way towards them (have 4 chickens, a bunny and a cat. the dog is next....)

We've recently wavered on being hardliners about nachos (they are SO GOOD), with the discovery of a corn chip with these ingredients: Corn chips, vegetable oil. I know it's still 'vegetable oil' but it's no 20 ingredient frankenfood.
