I feel like this too. It sucks.

I've also decided to not drink any alcohol for the same period.... Gulp...... That's going to be the biggest change I think as I drink a few times a week at the moment. Luckily my BF wants to cut out the booze too so at least I won't have to watch him drink while trying to abstain. I guess I'm kinda doing my own version of the Whole 30, except I'm doing a Whole 21
Good luck! Elimination diets can be tough...I'm trying with dairy (not too successfully) and trying to limit wine to weekends only. The no cheese is the hardest!

No referral, no lab request. I seriously think the old dude has lost it!
I've found a Thyroid support group here in WA today and they recommended a clinic that has some good docs there apparently, so that's what I'll try next.
I gotta tell ya, it'a frustrating as hell when you realise that you know more about the condition you suffer from than most doctors do. I wouldn't care so much if I didn't have to rely on them to treat me for the fucking thing!!

That's the same problem I face, and naturopaths are hard to find here, and EXPENSIVE. The first doctor I went to barely looked at the nodule on my thyroid and said "That'll have to come out." To hell it will! She didn't even put on a pair of gloves before saying this. Insane.

Wishing you the very best in your search. Definitely take advice from folks who have been through it and hopefully avoid their bad experiences.

I work at a hospital as a nurse and haven't had any luck there, but thanks for the suggestion. It's another of those CW things. CW docs will give you synthetic T4 and adjust your meds based on your lab results. Holistic docs who actually know something about the complex relationship between your thyroid and the rest of your body will treat based on symptoms and will also address your adrenals and immune system and the other things that may be causing the hypothyroidism.
Thanks for the good wishes, I'm looking forward to feeling better

I gave the cheese up a few weeks ago so that bit is not too hard any more. The butter and eggs are being sorely missed though! Funnily enough I haven't missed the booze but then again, I haven't had a weekend yet.

I love diagnosis by osmosis! How do they do it?! It amazes me how so many doctors believe all cures begin with a scalpel.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my friends from across the pond!! I hope you have an awesome time with your families and don't get into too much strife over what you will and won't eat. I can only imagine what a minefield big family events can become. Luckily (in some respects) my extended family all live in the UK and my Ma and my Brother couldn't give a toss what I eat as long as I make them some

So Day 4 is nearly over and I'm feeling bloated as hell. Lord only knows WTF is going on there, maybe related to my period which arrived yesterday morning after 2 weeks of PMS symptoms (sometimes being a woman sucks balls ya know?!). Have been craving carbs today, no big surprise as I'm eating VLC by default. I don't really plan to, it just seems to be the way I eat naturally without thinking about it. Wish it would help me lose some bloody weight though!!!

I've eaten badly today, not outside of the elimination diet rules, just all over the place.

          Breakfast: Coffee with coconut cream
Lunch: Another coffee and 2 huge slices of bacon, supps
Snacks: A whole frickin packet (that's 200g) of sweet potato crisps (they are gooood but I can't control myself around them, I really need to stop buying them!). Some fried seaweed snacks, slice of turkey, another coffee (decaf), few bites of salmon.
Dinner: Who needs it after all that!!

I was all over the place today because I was in and out all day, if I'd have had time for one decent meal I think I would've done better. Anyhoo, tomorrow is another day....

Picked up my November order of pastured lamb today, it is soooo good and sooo cheap! AU$7.50 per kilo. That's around US$4 per Ib!! Here's a pic that I took after loosely rearranging it's bodily features after butchering... is that weird

I've stuck most of it in the freezer, but I left out a rolled shoulder for dinner on Saturday night. Gonna open up the shoulder, stick something yummy in the middle and roll it back up before roasting. Last time I used black olives, roasted eggplant, anchovies and parmesan and it was insanely good. Any ideas for what to roll it up with this time??

Oh... forgot to mention that the medical clinic that I was referred to by the Thyroid Support Group got back to me yesterday. They're willing to take me on as a new patient but their first free appointment is on the 27th January!!! I guess that's a good sign that they're so busy! I guess I'll stick with the recommendations for supplements that came from Dr K's Thyroid book, stick with the PB and wait it out.

He-he... and thanks Batty. I appreciate it. Was a day full of drama yesterday, but hopefully things are gonna work out.

                          Anyhoo.....

I had my ward's Christmas function last night. Total fail on the Whole 21 thing! I made the best choices possible from the limited set-menu but the 5 or 6 glasses of champers were all my own fault

                          So,
                          - Entree was bread and olives, I just ate the olives
                          - Main: we could choose from salmon over a chickpea mash thingy, black angus sirloin over mash potato or a turkey roll thing with pastry case. I chose the steak, but there would've been butter in the potato and it had some kinda creamy sauce on top that probably had flour in it, dunno, but definitely cream anyway.
                          - Dessert was an apple tart, bread and butter pudding or a panna cotta. I had panna cotta, came out on some kind of biscuit base which I left, but the pudding itself was awesome! Funny, most people were saying it wasn't sweet enough, yet I thought it a little too sweet. Guess that's what happens when you don't eat sugar anymore.

Consequently I felt like shit this morning. I'm coming good now, but I was pretty hungover and my digestive system was all outta whack from the unfamiliar foods. Back on the wagon today.

I had the lamb and kale thing for brunch and am looking at a huge tail piece of salmon for dinner tonight with some sweet potato.

I still haven't managed to get a workout in, it's been over a week now. I am just so damn tired all the time. I'm going to go to bed super-early tonight, like 8.30 and try for a solid 10 hours of sleep. If I'm still tired after that then I'll know this is related to my thyroid. Not that this knowledge will give me any more options than I have right now, but at least I can stop beating myself up for being a lazy cow!

                          • Most likely, being tired is related to your thyroid. Even though exercise makes me feel better, I still look tired all the time. Really sux.

                            • I took the kids to the beach last night for a swim and a fish supper. Turns out there was a 'Start of Summer' festival on at the boat harbour. Loads of families there, DJ cranking the tunes and a massive fireworks display. We had a fantastic time, the weather was a balmy 28 degrees C even after sunset and the water was beautiful. Ended up spread out on a rug with my kids all snuggled next to me watching the amazing fireworks. Excellent night

I went to bed at 9pm (asleep by 10 I reckon) as planned and slept till 5am, would have slept more I think but my bloody dog was scratching at the window wanting attention. So at the most I got 7 hours. Dunno what I have to do to get a solid chunk of sleep, maybe get my dog a babysitter since it's always him who wakes me up! Anyway, I've had a nice peaceful hour to myself since the kids are still asleep.

So, I know I said that I wasn't going to get on my scales.... well I managed it for 3 weeks, hopped on this morning and I have lost 200g. I know the scales aren't everything, but my measurements haven't changed either..... WTF!!! I was chatting to LessofMimi yesterday and she's having such great success with her weight loss. The secret to her success..... Eating! I guess I shouldn't be surprised, Batty's journal is also a prime example of how you can stay in awesome shape while still eating up a storm. I look at the pictures of people's food sometimes and I'm baffled, because I eat about half of what is on their plates, yet I am stagnating on the weight loss front. I'm also too tired to workout and I'm thinking that not eating enough may be contributing to both the weight-loss plateau and the fatigue. I know the thyroid issue is partly to blame, but I don't think I'm doing myself any favours either.

I think I got kinda carried away by the idea of IFing. I've never had the kind of appetite control that I do now I'm eating primally and hunger just doesn't feel the same. It's a manageable awareness that, yes, I could eat but it isn't overwhelming. I have taken that and run with it to the point that I am not eating anything most days till after midday. Since I don't like to have a large dinner that means I'm eating about 1 and 1/2 meals a day max. It just simply isn't enough food I don't think.

So, for now I'm going to forget about IFing and focus on eating 3 good meals everyday. My stomach is used to eating only small portions so I'm going to have to work up to larger meals. I ate this for dinner before heading out last night....

... and I had to really push myself to finish it, and those are not large plates (that's kombucha btw, not beer ). With that in mind, the plan for today is.....

Breakfast: Bacon, mashed sweet potato and asparagus.
Lunch: Beef and kale stir-fry with spice-mix
Dinner: Rolled lamb shoulder (still haven't decided what to stuff it with), carrots, broccoli and pumpkin.

Will try to get a walk in too, maybe a LHT workout, I'll see how I feel.

                              • Ok, so I did it.. 3 good meals, they were yum and it was not as hard as I thought it would be. I think as long as I have a good breakfast early in the day, I'll be fine.

                                So, here's today's food porn, I wish I was a better photographer...

Breakfast: Bacon, mashed sweet potato and asparagus...

Lunch: Yellow capsicum stuffed with a spicy pork mince...

Dinner: Lamb shoulder stuffed with bacon, pork mince, onion and garlic, with carrots and broccoli...

That stuffed lamb was seriously good and there's loads leftover, so I see a lot of lamb salads in my future

Didn't work out, was bloody hot today, 36 degrees plus I'm really tired still... bleh. Damn my damned hormones...
