  • OMG Em! You make some gorgeous food pornz!

Doncha just love the smartphones!? I got the Droid X and it's the awesomest thing ever. I swears, I dunno what I ever did before.

I used to loathe Brussels sprouts too. My mom always boiled the crap out of them. Now they're one of my favorite veggies! I had to stop my mom from boiling the sprouts at Easter. To see such delicious yummies destroyed by boiling, would have been tragic.

Have a wonderful Friday, and happy weekend!

      • Thanks folks! The pork was ridiculously delicious. There's still plenty of meat left, but the crackling was gone in seconds, all you could hear from the kids and me was "CRUNCH.. mmmm... chew-chew... CRUNCH... mmmm."

My mum and her partner arrived from Karratha yesterday for a visit which is awesome. I just got out of bed at 9am because they've taken the kids out to breakfast and a movie, so I'm sitting in my dressing gown, drinking coffee and surfin' the interweb in a totally silent, sunny house. Bliss!!

My brother is coming up tomorrow and we're having a bbq. Much drinking and laughing will be going on I'm sure, that's usually how things work when my very small family gets together. Actually we have an enormous family, they're just all back in the UK and we never see them. Over here, it's just me, my brother and my Mum now that Dad's gone. I'm doing my best to flesh out the next generation however!

Weighed-in today. I lost 300g, it's small but I'll take it given the speedy weight-loss of the last 3 weeks. It's still downwards so I'm happy.

I did a workout with my kids last night and to show my Ma that she doesn't need all types of fancy equipment to get fit. I showed her wall push-ups and air squats, although she can't even manage box squats atm poor thing, her knees are shot. I showed her the pull-up bar with resistance band, but she wasn't game to try it. I don't know if I did more harm than good in retrospect, really she just needs to get out and go for a walk. She can start to work up to bodyweight exercises when she's a little stronger.
Anyway, after that the kids and I played Just Dance on the Wii for an hour. Unbeknownst to me, my Ma got the whole thing on her camcorder.. Doh! I can only imagine what I looked like from behind, flailing around!

        Ok, eats yesterday:
        B: Coffee
        L: Salmon sushi
D: Chinese take-away, Beef and broccoli with some steamed rice. 2 alcoholic ginger beers from a boutique brewery up in Broome. OMG!! They are delish! Spicy and bitey with a hint of sweetness. 2 glasses of white wine.

Going to try my hand at some fresh cheese making today. I've got loads of raw milk lying around that we haven't managed to get through, so I thought I'd try cheese-making to use some of it up. I'll let you know how I go.

          Awesome Crackling!

Sounds like you're having a wonderful visit with your mom!
          Have fun at your BBQ!

I'll see if I can cobble something that isn't too unflattering together.

I did and I will, it turned out beautifully! Like a cross between motzerella and haloumi.

Just a quick check-in as life is busy at the moment!

Weekend was awesome, spent eating, drinking, laughing and getting completely addicted to Guitar Hero for Wii, which my Mum bought for the kids, but which I have yet to let them play!

Night-duty last night sucked arse. I am getting sick and goddam tired of carrying vessels of other peoples bodily emissions around! I'm too fucking smart to be doing this shit!! *breathe* "I love my work... I love my work...." Roll on next year....

Back to Uni tomorrow, but then have another 2 weeks off.. Yay! Lots of time to catch up on some study and start preparing for my exam next month. Got my assignment back.... 87%! Woohoo! Means I only need 73% in the exam to reach my usual High Distinction.

I have been following Pklopp's posts on IFing, I find them very interesting and compelling. I have been organically decreasing my eating window anyway as I am less hungry these days and I just love feasting at the end of the day. I tend to eat mostly between 4 and 8pm now. So I'm doing 22-24 hour fasts fairly regularly. I'm going to give the 40 hour fast a go on Thursday/Friday by going from Wednesday dinner to Friday dinner. I'll let you know how I go, but I can't tell you how much I love the freedom that this WOE is giving me. I'm not hungry, I don't think about food at all, I eat VERY well during my eating window and I'm losing fat.... In short, I feel amazing!

I'd planned to list some goals for May, but I really have to move my butt and head out. I'll get to it tomorrow.

                    • Busy, busy, busy!

Just think... your job is meaningful and helpful to people. You're doing a good thing. <3

Have a fantastic week! Looking forward to seeing the results of your cheese adventure. I'm about to trade some kombucha scobys for some yogurt culture and get rolling on that project. Tons of foraging to be done too. The Amish sold all their goats so no more raw goat milk, but they bought cows so I might still have access to raw milk at least. They're cracking down on raw milk here. Just south they arrested an Amish man for selling it.

I was when I did my clinical placement that is part of my training. Back to my reality now which means permanent night duty. For now....

Yoghurt is something I haven't really ventured into yet, I tried once with some un-homogenised milk and I ended up with this weird cream-on-top thing that hadn't fermented properly... ugh. I really must try again as raw milk yoghurt would be awesome! I can get unpasteurised goats milk too, but it's a little pricey! I think I need a new SCOBY, my last couple of batches have been gross, taste just like vinegar.

Well done you! I'm at hour 19 of a 22 hour one myself! I'm feeling ok. I just walked to and from my class today which is a 10km round trip and I feel good. I'm definitely hungry though. Am drinking a decaf right now to put something in my tummy.

I'm hoping life will get back to normal tomorrow as Mum and her partner are heading home. It's been great having them here, but houseguests definitely stuff up your routine.
I'm cooking a leg of lamb right now for our farewell dinner and I plan to eat at least a quarter of it myself! Along with a pile of roasted potatoes, carrots and broccoli. While I'm looking forward to dinner, next time I decide to do a fast I think I'll break it with something that doesn't require 3 hours in the oven. The smell is driving me CRAZY!!
Tomorrow marks the start of my first 40ish hour fast. I'm going from dinner tonight to dinner Friday so it may not be exactly 48 from finishing one meal to starting another. I may not even make it at all. I'm not going to torture myself, if I'm low on energy and feeling crap then I'll eat. I just really want to try it once to see if I can do it, firstly and secondly to see how it makes me feel.
I will update here with my progress or lack thereof.

                          • Isn't Guitar Hero the most amazingly addictive thing ever? I can't wait until my life slows down a bit and I can "waste" hours and hours playing it again.

I'm so glad your fasts are going well! Fasting isn't something I can do right now, but I do love reading about other people finding their groove and eating in a way that works for them. Especially finding a way to minimize the food thoughts all day! Go Em!

And as for work ... just keep moving forward, you can do it!

                            • Em, perhaps you're just fermenting too long? The longer it ferments the more vinegar-like it gets. It ferments faster in warmer weather, and seems to take forever in the cool months.

Lots of luck on your fast! I've been considering adding my weekly fast back in. I used to do a fast from lunch Friday to breakfast/lunch Sunday. That was pre-Primal. I sure could use the extra bump in the weight loss. It's practically impossible for me to fast on a weekend now with different events, crop mobs and whatnot. May have to do it thru the week. So far the calorie counting has been sufficient though.

+1 what Ellie said about work. Just keep on moving forward.

I can't wait to hear about it. I agree with the no torture idea! No sense feeling like crap just so you can reach a #. Maybe you'll need to build up to it. A 30 hr first then the 40...
