  • Seasonal cold thermogenesis. It works wonders.

    Comment

    • LOL! Hey, I leave my thermostat on relatively low. That has more to do with cheapness though. I figure it's crazy to heat the house enough to wear summer clothes inside. If I'm still cold with a sweater and a scarf on (not a wool scarf, I'm not that eccentric) then, and only then, will I jack up the thermostat.
5'2", 55 years, Primal since April. Pre-Primal weight loss, from 216.6 to 157.8
Primal low: 140.2 (Dec. 3) Goal weight: 135?
Main Primal goal: beating back my CFS enough to function more normally and start writing again

Yeah, it was very easy (1 1/2 days worth of cleaning)
Yup, uninsulated. 90 yr old man was born in the house.
        We will be changing that!

          Um. A blur.
The young man who's buying our house came by at noon, He was going to the lawyers.
Laundry. Bank for travel insurance and US funds.
          LCBO for packing boxes.
Made potato salad in a cast pot on the BBQ (too hot to cook inside)
Worked at the booth from 5-8. Ate too many gummy worms.
          Damn things.

More laundry. Organizing things for College Son's trip.
Picked up South African Rand ($)
Went out to tour through my "new" house!
Came home at 3:30 to find out College Son needed a police check!!!
Police station is 1/2 hour away and they closed at 4! A quick phone call and the lady there offered to wait until we got there.
            We FLEW there!
She found his police check from last year and gave us a copy, gave him a sheet to fill out and photocopied his ID for a new one. I need a sheet from the volunteer organization and a signed sheet from College Son to get him a new one. Then fax/email/mail it to the organization.
            Good Grief!!
            BOYS

Supper was BBQ chicken, broccoli and wine!

            More laundry after supper.

College Son is almost packed. We leave at 9 tomorrow morning to meet the other boys in Hamilton.

            I THINK he's ready...

                    • What a charmer! The old wainscotting is lovely in the bathroom and kitchen. Are you into "old", as in antiques and maintaining that "aura", or are you likely to gut and update? I guess if you have to insulate a certain amount of gutting is inevitable. And what's the wiring like? Will it be adequate for a modern life?

Wiring has been our nemesis in the last 2 house purchases we've dealt with. Knob and tube, nasties like that... Just a heads up!

Winencandy hasn't had a moment to sit and think about it! But it is better than I'd hoped.

If I'd moved there 20 years ago, I would have gutted and made it all slick and modern. My tastes have changed. I LOVE the old bathtub, the built in cabinet and the wainscotting.

I'm not sure yet about the wiring. My Farmer and my Dad (retired electrician) will have to check that out.

                          • Saturday

Last minute packing and then we left at 9am for Hamilton. We got there in good time. College Son's ride was late. They'd had brake issues and had to swap vans! We did a little shopping while we waited. Bought a slightly bigger money belt (the little one won't hold the passport) an inflatable neck pillow, toothbrush and razor (he'd forgotten the last two at home)

We met at East Side Mario's for lunch and then he loaded his stuff in their van, I gave him a hug and kiss and they were off.
My eyes were a little misty.

College Son forgot the razor and toothbrush in the car and his brand new flip-flops at home.

It was 5 by the time I got home. Enough time to grab a bottle of wine and leave with my Farmer for supper at our friends. Wonderful evening, 8 people, 2 BBQ whole chickens (raised at their house) double stuffed potato halves, caprese salad, and a homemade Pavlova (awesomeness!!!) and wine (of course)

                            Bed at 11:30

                            • Sunday

A little tidying up in the morning. Yesterday was chaos!
Then I made a cauliflower, carrot, red pepper, red onion salad with red wine vinegar, garlic and olive oil. I also made a potato salad.

We left at 12:30 and drove to a little town south of Exeter for a family gathering. Pulled pork and assorted salads and desserts. We were back home by 7pm. My Farmer fried up some perch with butter and we had fresh peas!

I'm exhausted! I think I'll go to bed.

Lawyer's office in the morning to sign papers on the house.
