Thanks invino77 for keeping me motivated

On another note I wanted to talk about what Mark said in his book about Grok's wife, he hallariously adds that she is a "hottie." Honestly this just cracked me up, cuz let's think about this people:

      1. She had natty dreads. Let's be honest here, they were not combing or cutting their hair which makes them the OG dreadlockers.
      2. She has rotting teeth. Yeah, no dentists=mouth like swamp thing.
      3. She has no bra. Certainly the absence of a tit sack leads to some serious gravitational effects.
      4. She has been on a lifelong camping trip. Have you ever looked at yourself after camping for a couple days? Um Yeah...
      5. She is covered in body hair. More than likely she puts all the 70s "au natural" hairiness to shame, and has legs like a man.

So while she may be muscular and tan, she may not really be a hottie by today's standards. Sorry Mark!

      Also worth pondering:

"The research shows that many living European and Asian people have a small number of Neanderthal genes—about 1% to 4% of the genome. None have been found so far in a small sample of living Africans. As the earliest populations of Homo sapiens spread from Africa to Asia and Europe around 60,000 years ago, they met and rarely interbred with Neanderthal groups. Homo sapiens populations that stayed in Africa would never have met Neanderthals."

I have read that dairy, though it is low GI, actually causes an insulin spike. Perhaps that is one of the reasons dairy seems just as hard to kick as sugar. I'm currently trying to get off the white poison. So my non primal treat today was real decaf coffee, cream and dam it, a tables spoon of honey!!! I just needed something while being primal today. I actually felt light headed after... almost like I'd had a glass of wine, weird. But man it was really nice! So now I have to throw out the honey becuase I know I will keep going back for more.

Good news from the Big Girl front; my man calves are atrophying! While I still don't seem to be losing that much weight I do seem to be shrinking. Kissing the fruits and nuts goodbye resulted in a decreased appetite.

So now the question: What are you eating? Vegetables and meat. Yep, I am Optimus Primal (thanks for the awesome word Jenny!).

So here is my question: Coconut is a nut, but on the forums it doesn't seem like it is a naughty nut. People keep it in their diet and still lose weight. Am I right on this one?

(to be honest my fave people are fruits and nuts)

glad to see you are hanging in there! I have self control issues so have to really ration my nut and chocolate purchasing! I buy macadamias as they are pricey and makes me eat them much slower.

Trying boiling up some eggs to carry around or have as a snack when you are needing one. Or shavings of roast beef - i find them very satisfying. I also like toasted coconut flakes. yum

Nought wrong with coconut; oil, milk, cream, shredded. Just keep an eye on the macronutrients as adding that to something like almond flour in your diet can add things in places you didn't know!

well done on the booze...it's a hard one - i just don't buy the stuff any more, and i can't afford to drink out very often! i have tried switching to flavoured vodka and soda water

feel your pain on the man calves,,,,mine were 47cm...aarrgh!

              my tips;

ditch the scales for now, measure instead.
well done on ditching the lara bars (whatever they are....i suspect sugary from the other posts)

lol at grok's wifey...however there is discusssion that the tip top vitamin D levels they had actually prevented tooth decay. so she wouldn't have hollywood white but i don't know how bad they would be....

              keep us informed!

Sounds like you have a good plan! The measuring sounds like a great idea too -- I should do that later, it'll help me understand how I bounce back post-baby-delivering.

As for nuts -- the only "naughty" nuts are the ones that are not actually in the nut family: peanut and cashew. They're actually beans. Perhaps that's why so many people are allergic to those two!

Everything else is apparently a real nut and just fine. Since Primal tends to be a high-fat diet, coconut is a big hit around here. Not only is it tasty straight-up and as coconut milk for smoothies, but it makes a great cooking oil because it resists high temperatures so well. It's saturated (which is fine) and not nearly as scary as some of the vegetable/grain/seed oils out there. (Personally I'm fine with olive oil though, so are a lot of folks. What else would we use on salad?)

Hmm, as far as I know you can't. But you only have 32 posts so far -- just make a new profile, post here to say your new name, and then swap over? You can change the title of the journal to make it more clear, too. Like if your new name is ChangedName, the journal could be "I have taken ze challenge (ChangedName's journal)"

OR -- before doing that, email to mark@marksdailyapple.com and ask them to pretty please change your forum name to ChangedName. Can't hurt!

It is clear when reading the Primal Blueprint that Mark lives in the land 'o plenty, where the sun is always shining and it looks like a the pristine utopia generally featured on travel web sites and butter packages. Why is this so clear dear readers? Mark writes as though there is an endless bounty of high quality local veggies as well as ideal weather for working out outside. Well here is a news flash: The vast majority of the world experiences this little thing scientists refer to as seasons [see-zuhnz]. Here at 40° 45' N 105° 5' W in Colorado it gets reeeeel cold and rainy and snowy, which as you may know is not conducive for hotfooted dashes nor for growing anything except icicles. So what is a primal princess to do? How am I supposed to work out? Bear in mind my friends I am not a gym rat, I ditched that long ago. Are there videos I can do? Is there a substitution for all that walking? Does belly dancing count as low cardio?

In the meantime I devised this recipe for primal chocolate:

                      Melt:

                      1/2 cup unsweetened dark chocolate
                      2 T coconut oil
                      1 T honey
                      pinch 'o salt

Put into some form or another (ice cube tray, small flexible dish, latex bra cups) and refrigerate. Now you have dark chocolate w/o sugar+some extra saturated fat. Your non-primal friends will think you are loony and you will assure them that yes, indeed you are.

Haha, see-zuhnz. I hear ya girl. Last winter was a nightmare for my exercise, since we've had icewalks instead of sidewalks. I think we should all relocate to Hawaii. Fresh fruit and pacific fish, lots of sunshine. Playing with dolphins in the waves. Join me?

OMFG people have you seen Mark's wife? This has renewed my enthusiasm as I want to look that bangin'. Does anyone else pine for her posts? I really want to know what she eats daily, if she does the 80/20, etc.

Yesterday I went skiing and it was bitchin' early season snow. I am stoked for the season. I usually get about 30+ days in. Also I'm proud of my badassery 'cuz I ride men's skis. My mother in law says I look like a girl and ski like a man. Now if that is not a compliment I don't know what is. Now if I could only drop the lbs. I would be a happy little hot daisy. But here is something I have been thinking, what the hell is your ideal weight? The smallest I have ever been was when I was 15 and wore a size 7. By the time I was 17 I wore a size 10, which is what I currently wear. So what the hell is my ideal body size? I know the fat encapsulating my muscle isn't good, but will I ever be a lean, mean, fat burning machine like Mark's wife? So many questions.

My meathead groceries I bought this week:

                          1 1/4 lb buffalo
                          8 chicken sausages
                          1 lb bacon
                          2 doz eggs
                          chicken wings
                          sliced turkey
1 1/2 lb grass fed beef

+tons of veggies, coconut milk, spices

We spend about $120/ week, not including going out 3-4 times on the weekend. How about you?

Buffalo? Neat! Never had it before. Wonder if its more like beef or like venison.

I love skiing. Ive missed far too many seasons between my hubby's back injury, baby #1 and now working on baby #2. Next winter, I guess. Plus by then I'll be in much better shape!

Yeah, Mark's wife is smoking hot. I can only hope to look half that good later on. Inspirational isn't it?

Ideal size seems like such an individual thing. Aesthetically it seems like theres a lot of variation in who looks good slim and who looks good a bit more curvy. And even aside from aesthetics theres always the question of when do you get to the point whirr you feel as healthy and happy as you want without over stressing about how you eat or exercise. Really this is all about quality of life, ultimately, right?

Sure would be nice to live in endless summer Malibu, eh? At least for primal living!

Sort of a spontaneous thing eh? And how did it go -- judging by your post it wasn't a prob?

Can't imagine doing that with so little negative consequence on a more starchy diet...
