  • Hi hun
Realised I've not "checked in"with you for a while (been posting a lot but somehow I didn't get onto your "bit).

You do make me realise how lucky I am - I have so few "health issues" by comparison - yet if you have seen my journal lately you will see that I posted a couple of my "old food diary" pages from 2008 (full on CW low fat high carb) and 2010 (out of control binge day - just one of many). I SO deserve more problems than God seems to have seen fit to punish me with (though I do have a couple of doozies). I am just hoping they are not lurking in wait, ready to spring out and "get me". I have to hope I can heal them before they appear I guess.

Anyhow, you seem to have a practically dizzying array of them. You sound to have such an allergen issue goingon to me that all your systems have become sensitive somehow - though I am no specialist and so its only how it strikes me.

Next time I am complaining how I feel cos I sprinted the hell out of my legs/lifted something bloody heavy - I will smack myself and remember to be grateful that I can!!

You still whole30 compliant too?? I am on Day 23(37) of the 30(44). No issues there at all for me - except a gnawing anxiety that I have reawoken some ED "control issues" thanks to the need for perfection and adherence and cutting things out. BUT I have a plan.......

I keep hoping you will find something - anything - that gives you some relief from the symptoms you get - or miraculously your doctor reads up an article and thinks "omg - now I know how to help that woman".

Meanwhile - glad to see you keep posting, keep going and keep trying.

Thanks. Yep I am still sticking with my whole30. Next Thurs is the final day. I'm going to celebrate with some berries and cream and wine, and then get on with planning my longer term eating.

I "finish" a week today. Monday I plan on berries and thick cream too!! If no problems from that, next reintroduction - butter.

Total for the day (not incl macadamias):
          1780kcal
          carb 53g
          fat 116g
          protein 160g

Off for a massage and a walk this morning, kids back to school after the half term hols. Period is just starting so I am in the finishing straight with PMS as well as whole30 :-).

Just went over to Sparkpeople as I have an account over there, and entered my breakfast into the nutrition tracker. It came out 598kcal, 11g carb, 31g fat, 68g protein. Not enough fat? Too much protein?

              • Actually today is day 28.

                Breakfast- mince and onions with

Lunch- fried eggs in lard with raw spinach and steamed leek and broccoli, with a little ghee

Snack as tea late due to kids activities- almonds

Tea- smoked mackerel, salad with avocado

I am feeling very anxious and not sleeping. It is clear the some symptoms I had when I was on gluten- feeling of a lump in my throat, things getting stuck when I swallow, and snoring- have come back. Since a couple of days after I started taking iodine. Which can aggravate autoimmune thyroid disease. Which is associated with celiac. Would explain me feeling so much better when I stopped gluten and then gradually felt worse and regained a lot of the weight I'd lost.

Can't go back to the docs, they already think it is depression (they said that about the celiac too). Have ordered a home kit where you take your own blood sample by pricking your finger, and then they test it for thyroid antibodies.

Very nervous. It takes 10 days to get the result so I have about two weeks to wait. Still I have been worrying about this for the last couple of years, every since I stopped being able to lose weight easily. Will be good to find out the facts.

Excellent yoga class. Just when I started thinking I wasn't getting enough out of it after going for nearly a year, my teacher has upped the pace and I'm back to having to work properly again, lovely .

                    • Day 29! heck am I really going to do this thing?!

Breakfast- 4 eggs scrambled with ghee, green beans. Ghee ran out so was a bit short, which probably explain need for snack of nuts before work at 11.30am. Couldn't be bothered to make more when my whole30 ends on Friday and I am planning to eat some cream anyway, might as well just use butter. But not til Friday!

Lunch- big steak cooked in dripping with ACV, button mushrooms and savoy cabbage, with steak seasoning (fab brand Fiddes Payne, nothing dodgy
                      in it)

Tea- chicken casserole with various veg and chicken stock

Really hungry after swimming, ate lots of nuts, freshly shelled at least

Swam this eve, I take my 11 yr old alternate weeks, when she comes we play for about 40 mins, swimming lengths, inventing funny strokes, having races (sprints!) and generally messing around. I try to keep moving most of the time so I get a proper workout. It's really fun. The weeks she doesn't come and get to do nice, proper lengths.

                        • DAY 30!!! 228lbs this morning!!!

Breakfast- 3 eggs and 6 rashers streaky bacon fried in lard, steamed savoy cabbage

Took some ACV and a scrape of CO midmorning

                          Few nuts before work

Lunch- chicken thighs and leg with cabbage and mushrooms cooked in leftover broth from yesterday's casserole. Tried a digestive enzyme tablet again, same result. I can't find any affordable ones without HCl or other nasties I can't deal with like corn starch (25 for 30 days supply, no thanks!) so might have to forget that one.

Tea- bolognaise with mushrooms and celery

Have got a headache again today, 3rd day in a row, not sure what that is, maybe a bug, I do feel more tired than usual too.

Blood sample done, ewww! Had to prick two fingers to get enough blood (good thing they send two lancets!), felt really squeamish and it's sore squeezing pricked finger and scraping it across top of tube to get the blood in. Took it straight to the Post Office so it'll be on it's way today. Result can take up to 10 days though. Am going to recuperate with a cup of tea and a magazine now!

Found this http://www.hollandandbarrett.com/pag...121&prodid=491, might try some and find out if my symptoms from CO are due to candida fighting back/ die off, or reacting to coconut.

Having a really, really shitty day (husband stuff, kids crying over homework and refusing to do reading books, other child fallen out with best friend, mum emailing me about how bad things are with my sister, just heard my cousin also has a brain tumour etc etc etc etc etc etc). Very desperate to drown my sorrows in ice cream and wine. That may well happen tomorrow but if it does at least I have done my 30 days. Can't be perfect.

Spent the evening researching candida. Something that might explain some of my weird symptoms that have improved off gluten but not gone completely, like hot, puffy feet leading to restless legs for example. Worth a try anyway.

Did the bodyweight exercises this eve. Felt like shit but did them anyway.

                          • Breakfast- bolognaise

Lunch- bolognaise, 6 small sq of 100% cocoa chocolate, which was inedible pre-whole30 lol, and I started with 4 an went back for another 2. Feel a bit heart-fluttery and buzzed now, but I already know I can't really handle the theobromine in really dark choc, will probably just use up this bar I've had hanging around then quit it. Hmm also now feel bloated and stomach is gurgling!

Tea- white fish with olive oil, capers, lemon, anchovies, greens. Glass and a half of dry white wine.

So I did it. 30 days. No grains, sugar, dairy except grassfed ghee, legumes except green beans, vegetable oils except EVOO and CO, took my supplements, got back into regular exercise.

Sleep better, shoulder pain virtually gone (my barometer for inflammation), digestion better. Still feeling tired but I think I am still adjusting to running on fats. 30 days isn't long for someone who was as carb dependent as me. I think I have experienced some candida die off as well.

                            Stats:
                            weight 228lbs
                            arm 41cm
                            waist 113
                            hips 123
                            thigh 77.5
                            calf 42

Starting stats from 30 days ago:
Stats from beginning of whole 30:
                            weight 238lbs
                            arm 42cm
                            waist 116cm
hips oops missed it will do lateer
                            thigh 77cm
                            calf 43cm

                            And from day 15:
                            Stats as of today:
                            weight 233lbs
                            upper arm 40.5cm
                            waist 119cm
                            hips 124.5
                            thigh 78.5
                            calf 42.5

I don't think my measurements are very accurate, for example they show my hips as having been 121 when I started back in August and then 124 part way through the whole30. I can see in the mirror I look smaller and my work skirts are falling down. That tells me enough. It tells me that just maybe I am healing, without counting calories, without going hungry.

Next step is to add in L-glutamine and some gentle anti-fungals and we'll see what happens. I did the spit test this morning, well I don't know if it means anything or not but if it does then yikes! Horrible cloudy stringy stuff going down to blobs at the bottom. I want to get my husband to do it as he's never had a sugar craving in his life, and my daughter, who is like me and also had oral thrush a while ago. Would be interesting to compare.

So I am going to take 5g of L-glutamine a day (it came with a 5g scoop so I'm keeping it simple) and also a tbsp of ACV which I will take before one of my meals, probably in the morning or lunch just in case it contributes to heartburn at night. Plus a bit of CO, just a bit of a tsp for now as it does seem to increase my symptoms. Taking it easy. Once I've upped the CO to say 3 tsp a day (if I can and am not intolerant to it) then I will add in another antifungal like oil of oregano or olive leaf extract. If i can't tolerate the CO at all I'll try caprylic acid tablets instead, then I'll know if I am sensitive to coconut or if it is die off.
