  • Marathon Training?

    So I've been primal for about 11 months now, and one change that I'm really happy about is that I'm able to run again. When I was in high school I really liked running but after I ripped my M.C.L I couldn't run any more. I recently moved to Japan and started running again. I'm up to about 7.5 km in an hour with getting stopped by multiple street lights along the way and running at a slightly medium to slow pace. Anyways, here's my question: What's the best way to train for a 10 km marathon. A friend asked me if I would like to run in one, and I decided that I would really like to since it's on my list of things to do why I'm still young and capable. Should I just run, or should I mix in walking and hiking and stuff like that?

    (take into note, that my 7.5 km is only my second 3rd time running after 2 almost two months of being here, so it's basically my starting distance)

    Jeff Galloway. His run-walk-run program is super primal friendly. It's designed to keep one injury free, because you're constantly switching muscle groups and keeping your legs fresher longer.

      yeah, I kind of figured our a run-walk program might be better yesterday, after I got into my second 7.5 run in two days. After about 4.5 km my legs were like "F-you we're tire you're walking the last 3"... Found my limit though...

          What's a good time for a for a full mile? I ran 12.5 km today in an 1.35 hours I feel that's a little slow. It's my first time running, so I don't know what I should get to. To me it's not worth doing unless I try my hardest...

            A good time for a mile is whatever you run a mile in. Work on improving on it little by little. I am fast as molasses and run a 14 min mile on a good day. I think 10 min mile is a good point to aspire to. 7 miles per hour is pretty smokin fast to me, especially if you plan on sustaining that for 13-26 miles!

              Okay Thanks! Right now, I'm able to keep that pace and probably could have done another 4km if I felt like it, but I had to teach a class so I didn't have time.
