  • Weirdest workout words.

What are some of the most whimsical words used in the gym/fitness world? I hear some odd ones from time to time and quickly forget what they were. Remind me!

Not so sure whimsical, but I attend a lot of classes at the gym and instructors are always saying "burning calories now" or "we are toning." I tend to find those pretty funny.

      'building lean muscle'

      'supine glute lift' vs 'bridge'
      beautiful
      yeah you are

Baby if you time travel back far enough you can avoid that work because the dust won't be there. You're too pretty to be working that hard.

I will give my list of expressions:

"Pick a spot on the wall!!!!!" said a lot when I used to workout for football. What does that mean, exactly? Stare at it?
"Buttercup" = said a lot in my current gym, in reference to special snowflakes that think squats are just too hard.
"EMOM, Rx, AMRAP" and all the Cfit inspired words that actually came from the military. "We are gonna EMOM on your mom", etc
"Rip-snorting" = said by NZ lifting partner. "That's a rip-snorting snatcher there mate." It all sounds vaguely dirty.

          I got plenty more....
"The soul that does not attempt flight; does not notice its chains."

I've always heard it as, "Cowboy up, cupcake".

                "butt wink"

                "Dude, I just got wheysted!"

"I can't squat because my glutes aren't firing."
In matters of style, swim with the current. In matters of principle, stand like a rock.

I've been pondering on the word 'swole'

There is a guy I see every week who clearly has been doing a very 'successful' hypertrophy program but his upper body literally looks swollen beyond any utilitarion value. I don't know if that can be totally a program thing or if you have to juice to look like that.

From the running world: Fartlek - Swedish for "speed play". Sort of a short sprint, for instance, sprinting from one telephone pole to the next during a run.
