  • Can I make time to go to the gym with my schedule?

Hello all! I just signed up for a gym membership. It's a month to month basis. No contracts *whew*
I trust Mark with his vast knowledge and I want to lift HEAVY! Also it's more motivating for me to workout at a gym than at home. A lot of distractions at home. My one concern is my schedule. Here it is:

I work Monday through Friday. Always have weekends off. My job schedule starts at 3:30 PM and ends at midnight.Did I mention I take care of my 5 month old son when he wakes up either 8:30 or 9:00 in the morning. Until his mom gets home at 11:30 AM.

I plan on going to school soon too. It will be fully online.

My gym is a 5-10 minute drive depending on traffic and it costs me $28 a month. What do you think? Should i keep my gym membership or cancel it?

    As I see it:

    1) $28 seems pretty reasonable (I live in London and relatively cheap gym member ship costs 65 a month on an annual contract!)
    2) 5-10 mins isn't far to go
    3) You seem to have time to make it to the gym 2 or 3 times a week if you want to e.g. one day of the weekend and once or twice just before lunch during the week

I would keep the membership. Remember, you only have to work out for 45-60 mins a session.

If something is a priority, you do it. If it's not important, you don't.

It looks like you have 4 hours a day that you can go work out during the week, plus the weekend. So yes, you do have time that could be spent at the gym.
Check out my blog. Hope to share lots of great recipes and ideas!

Why not? You have 11:30 to 15:30 daily (4 hours window) of time when you can go to the gym and full weekends.

Thank you all for the feedback. Does anyone here have a similar schedule to mine? If so, what is your schedule like? It just seemed overwhelming to me. Being a father, husband, student and gym goer all at once. You're right though. No excuses though when you really want it.

How many times a week should I go to the gym? I'm a beginner.

Note to self: I REALLY need to learn time management.

I go the gym at night after my 2 kids go so sleep. I usually get there around 9 or 10pm. You could always go after work -- assuming your gym is open. The later you go the less you have to wait for equipment. And the fewer 1/4-depth squats you have to witness.

I would suggest trying 3 days of lifting in the gym, and doing your cardio outside and playing with the kids on the rest of the days.
