But who told you bigger was better? Why do you believe them?

So in the context of absolute vs relative useful strength. Who can move the couch from this side of the room to another. The 160lb guy that can squat 295 or the 450lb guy who can squat the bar?

Have you seen the my d*ck is bigger then your d*dick thread that is otherwise call "why men don't lift weight" .. that sort of "thinking", perception/presentation, image is everywhere here and else ware ... bigger is better in men, stronger is better in men.. yead yead yead b... oppps but sorry you don't count where not takeing in an "absoults" . it only aplies to "little or fit men or whatever other subest removes them for imperical reality ...
hence my confustion is strong good or not ....is bigg good or not.... and none of this in one case yes one case no thats just twisted / minipulitve / confusing / not helpfull in any way

If I’m squatting about 495 in an absolute sense now and get stronger (like not just loosing 50lbs fat and add that 50 to the bar but truly stronger where bar weight is great then fat/body weight loose) and you say I’m no where near my genetic potential ,, what the heck you mean like I should be squatting cars if I was living up to my ideal .. an image that is just grotesque monster ogerish and totaly not motivating .. and serves to keep me out of the gym more than makeing me want to go.
Oh boy oh boy. Wow. Convoluted thought train there.

Firstly, you aren't squatting 495 in an absolute sense if that's body weight + bar weight. Without trying to use physics words that I'll simply muck up, you have to realize that your body isn't contributing 100% to the resistance you have to overcome. There's weight that's simply held by the floor and levers involved.

Seriously, you have to see that telling someone who can squat with a 45 pound bar on his back to get stronger isn't suggesting they should squat a car. There are many things between a 45 pound bar and a vehicle.

I think the other issue you're confused about is absolute vs. relative strength. Being absolutely stronger than a 160-pounder while weighing in the mid 300's is no great accomplishment. Because aside from a select few freaks of nature, 160-pound dudes aren't very strong. I deadlift in the low 400's. There are olympic weightlifters who snatch that weight.

However, small people do tend to lift a higher percentage of their bodyweight than our big counterparts in general. Let's say you could match my 1RM squat on a relative basis by squatting 425 or so. I'm loosely basing that guess on Rippetoe & Kilgore's strength standards chart. That's 425 of plates & barbell.

At your size, I don't think anybody is suggesting that you need to grow bigger, which seems to be what you're arguing against. If you're already strong enough for your goals, that's great. How do you plan to maintain that strength while you lose weight (sorry if I'm wrongly assuming that you're hoping/planning to lose some weight)?

Here's a story about strong guys your size: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/08/sp...sion.html?_r=0

If strength is your only parameter, these are the guys to emulate, not me.

In absolute terms, neither you nor I are strong. I probably need to get bigger to get there. You probably don't. In the eyes of some, I have the "excuse" of smallness for not being strong. You don't have that excuse. Behdad Salimikordasiabi is strong. And he's big. If you value strength, emulate him for sure over me. What is the confusion?

please keep in mind I'm not anti or vs you "personly" confustion is way little+strong is good and big+strong is not ... pound per pound and ant is problay stronger then an elepehnt yet no one expects them "diet and exersize" so they both look like lions ... thats where I have the issue I think.

and if most people say this in the street
that would say .... he needs to diet and exercise more

Are you missing the point intentionally? Or just trying to keep making excuses?

Find an ant who can put more weight on his back than an elephant. You're squatting an empty bar. You're not strong.

I'm not telling you to diet down to 180 lbs. Don't try to put that bullshit on me. I told you to get strong like the guy who won the super heavyweight division of the 2012 Olympic Weightlifting competition. I've been super patient, but you're being an ass now.

LOL, if ants could bulk up to the size of a lion and keep their relative strength they would be the Lords of the earth! Ants are already outweighing humans in total biomass on this planet, so I hope that they don't bulk up too much...
