    Kravmaga.com

That's the website for Krav maga worldwide, with ties to imi litchenfield, the founder of the art.

Had to stop aikido because it takes an hour to get up if I get on my knees.

Hmmm, I've seen a little bit of krav maga in action and I think you may struggle if you have mobility issues, they do seem to really go for it (one of the things that attracted me in the first place). I ended up not going though as I have a weak elbow (30 years of knife defences will do that to an elbow!) and I didn't want it aggravated. I had a choice, either get my elbow wrenched learning a new art or have faith that my kung fu will always be there if I need it and instead building my elbow up so I can go rock climbing again. Rock climbing won!!

You are right! Thats why I only go there (or anywhere similar) if I manage to heal it for good. I am scheduled for a diagnostic and want to follow this matter through. For your elbow - my mom was a dental surgeon and damaged her elbow at work. For her an injection of novocaine helped, never had any more problems although she continued to do the same work for many years. That gives me hope for my hip.

Grappling. Any kind. Most fights end up on the ground.

I would go for either kick-box or muay thay. Karate is just an art sport
I am not a bodybuilding/fat loss/strength training "guru" BUT I achieved a lean state with ease after learning the correct way to train and eat and I want to HELP YOU achieve the same.

Getting fit is also about managing your mindset:

For the child the best would be to try different techniques and find the one that suits him/her the best. A mangust will have a different fighting tactics than a rhino.

Very dangerous in a real self-defence situation going to the ground! Keep distance to any attacking persons, and when getting close use fist strikes more than kicks, try to keep distance for gaining time! Good old boxing is usually better than Tae-kwon-do for striking. When in bodycontact use throws, from Judo, BJJ or Wrestling without going to the ground if you can avoid it. Remember that a hard slam to the ground will finish most people and a Judo throw is perfect for that! If going to the ground try to get up or finish your opponent as fast as possible and get up on your feets and run away from the situation...
