  • Anyone up for a lent fitness challenge?

I am going to do a burpee (full form press up) challenge for lent

starting at 1 burpee I am going to ladder up until the end of March for continuous burpees. I think the end of March is going to be tough!

    any one else?

    Guess its just me,

With the help of my fitness trainer I am modifying this:

I am starting at 3 and increasing by 3 every day so I will need to do 120 Burpees on the last day of lent

      Adam,

This sounds interesting but 3 a day might be too many. 40 days isn't the longest time for a challenge like this but I still feel like this will put a whole lot of stress on your body, especially because you will have no recovery. I know whenever I do a high volume my shoulders take a beating and I won't do any until I feel 100%. Just my 2 cents.

      Good Luck, Jim

        thanks for the comments Jimmy

I wont be doing the burpees with press ups so it is just effectively cardio

I am also only training once a week atm so keeps it a big fresh.

        will see how it goes.

Actually, last year during lent a bunch of buddies and I went on a 4800 burpee mission... basically 100 burpees a day the entire time =)

Up to 30 burpees today so still going strong.

something tells me March is going to be an interesting month.

            quite enjoying the challenge though.

Backed off my other training so just doing this, walking a lot and a very hard HIT PT training session once a week.

Great job, Adam! Keep it up!

I opted for a Whole30 (Whole48?) challenge for Lent this year. It's been going very well for me -- a lot easier than I expected. While keeping my Whole30 vow this Lent an interesting thing has happened. As I continued to read web sites for info and support with Whole30 I often found myself surfing over to weight lifting sites and articles. Inspired by several recent reads I have just purchased an Olympic weight bench and set of weights/bars (great deal on Craig's List!) and have started following the lifting routine in the book, The New Rules of Lifting for Women.

This is new to me. I've been active for years and have done strength training in the past, but it's been the light weight, high rep variety. This is the first time that I'm doing squats, deadlifts, pulls and presses with heavy barbells. I'm actually giddy with excitement. I can't wait to see how much progress I make between now and Easter and plan to keep going after that.

I'm feeling a lot like I did 2 years ago when I first stumbled on the Primal Blueprint: "Yes! I get it! This all makes sense! Why didn't I do this before now?!!"

So even though it's not really a Lenten vow for me, the heavy lifting is certainly a new challenge for me this Lent.

              Peace,
              Karen

I unfortunately Pulled my back out on sunday morning (quite severely) and have had to stop this.

I have only just begun walking.

I think I was overdoing and my body has basically told me to stop it!

Going to recover now for the next few weeks with some light exercises.

what a shame but I am going to stay positive and watch my food intake until I am back up and running.

Weight training is on the agenda for me next as I am acquiring a weights bar as well for home.

Bummer! I hope you recover from the injury quickly. It sounds terribly painful. Good luck with the new weight set!
