  • Push-up Progression *Video!*

    Hey Gang,

Check out this new video I made demonstrating some push-up variations. The clip shows about a dozen different types of push-ups, ranging from a beginner's incline push-up all the way to some pretty advanced stuff!

This is the first video in a series about bodyweight progressions that I will be sharing over the next few weeks to help promote the upcoming Progressive Calisthenics Certification workshops that I'll be leading.

As always, your thoughts and feedback are welcome!

      What no no-arm push up

Awsome vid as usally, you make the almost impossible look easy, but also somehoe achievable, not that I'll be atempting a one arm clapping or superman any time soon.

ETA: If I could get to the workshop I would be signing up now but it's a bit far to drive and I think my car would sink just past Cornwall

        Wow!
Although I know I'll never be that good, you really inspire me to "have a go".

        Thanks Al.

I just love you, Al! And you do it all with a smile (or at least a very convincing grimace)

+1 on the no-arms push up...was waiting for it. LOL

How about the Japanese style push up? Also, I saw a guy doing something called Lizard push up while looking for your YT channel. Are those even worth the effort?

I've just started reading your pull up book in the hopes of being about do a few in 2013.

Thanks for all the positivity and support! I'm glad you all enjoyed the video! I'll have to get back to you on the no-arm push-up (makes me think of Tenacious D and The Pick of Destiny - you guys seen that movie?).

Anyway, I just updated my blog with the second installment in this three-part video series on progressive calisthenics. Click here to check it out!

I was waiting to see if anyone would make the Tenacious D link - Like may couples me and the Mrs have a special song, ours is; 'F*ck her Gently' by Tenacious D

Which I'm sure is on you tube but I do have some slight concept of apropriateness and I think linking is going too far

                        Al

I've just been watching your push up progression video with interest, I'm working through Wade's CC programme at the minute and he pushes for knees and feet together while doing one arm pushups. Is this a realistic goal or is feet and legs apart the way to go?

                        Thanks
Do what you love and do it often. If you don't like something, change it. if you don't like your job, quit. If you don't have enough time, stop watching tv. If you are looking for the love of your life, stop, they will be waiting for you when you start doing the things you love. Stop over analyzing, life is simple. When you eat, appreciate every last bite. Some opportunities only come once, seize them.

Coach Wade and I agree on about 99% of this type of stuff but one arm push-ups is a key area where we diverge. I firmly believe that a wide stance makes for a more sound one arm push-up than feet together. In my next book (which will be out in about 2-3 months) I present my case for why I feel this way.

OK Al, here's my idea for your no-arm push-up--basically a flag with belly toward the ground...then let yourself down slowly (or the face don't like it) and back up again! Cmon, I know you can do it! If the regular one is the Dragon Flag (thanks Bruce Lee), what would we call this...caption contest...?

On the other hand, this idea is probably a good example of how theory and practice really are different...
