  • Want to build leg & foot strength while lowering impact on body?

Practice walking as quietly as possible. It helps having moccasins or similar shoes, but it could probably still have an effect with other shoes like Converses. It's really fun to creep up on animals if you do this in the wilderness, but it could be done anywhere. It will engage your senses and make you very aware. Plus like I said in the title, it gives you excellent practice in strengthening various muscles from your hips down to your toes. You will end a 3 mile hike feeling more energized because your ligaments & bones took zero impact, and your muscles will be pumped up for more.

Yep. Great for re-learning proper foot strike also!

Exactly. It's excellent for building muscle memory for a better stride.

Ok, I wore very thin-soled shoes today, and it barely worked with that. I can now confirm that this only really works barefoot or with a very flexible sole like moccasins.

Hmm...it works for me in Converse (I can't wear Vibrams at the gym I work at), but it definitely works better in the Vibrams or barefoot.
