Practice walking as quietly as possible. It helps having moccasins or similar shoes, but it could probably still have an effect with other shoes like Converses. It's really fun to creep up on animals if you do this in the wilderness, but it could be done anywhere. It will engage your senses and make you very aware. Plus like I said in the title, it gives you excellent practice in strengthening various muscles from your hips down to your toes. You will end a 3 mile hike feeling more energized because your ligaments & bones took zero impact, and your muscles will be pumped up for more.
