  • NYC gyms

Well, I guess this is looking far ahead since I'm still at school and still have access to my school's gym (and I've injured myself anyway so I'm not going to the gym for a while)... but, anyone know of quality gyms in NYC/Brooklyn? Not sure where I will live next year but my job is here, and BKLYN would be a nice place to live...

Things I am looking for in a gym:

    - Barbells, big weights

    - Squat racks and power cages

    - People who don't mind chalk and loudness and deadlifting

    - It can be grungy, I don't even care

Check out the Crossfit affiliates, maybe? I know there are both manhattan and brooklyn affiliates.

If I lived in New York I'd definitely hang with these folks: http://www.meetup.com/Eating-Paleo-in-NYC. They can probably recommend a gym (and will run barefoot with you through Central Park).

        True enough

Brooklyn Barbell seems like a fantastic place

It also seems to be hella expensive

I go to Absolute Power right near the corner of Graham and Grand, off the L train. its cheap [400 for the year, if you pay cash a bit cheaper], not fancy but has everything you want.

Im usually in and out and mind my business, but you'll see other people doing olympic lifts, crossfit, starting strength sort of programs.
