  • Bangin' em out...

So I have been slackin' on sprinting lately. I decided on Saturday to go bang out 6-8 15 second hill sprints. I get er' done, no big deal. And then...

DOMS DOMS DOMS DOMS... oh man, i think every muscle in my body is sore. Although, I do like the feeling.

I think I'll take it easy this week, I'm going on a 2 night back packing trip this weekend. I want to make sure the legs are primed!

Your legs will be fully recovered by then.

I did pretty much that workout Friday and they are feeling pretty much back to normal now. You are just feeling it more because as you said, you've been slacking on them recently. Just not used to it is all.

Yes, Sprints seem to hit me in a "delayed" fashion like that -- at least compared to other forms of exercising.

Having been leaving out sprints from my workouts I figured I'd start last saturday. I was doing squats friday and now my quads are really sore. I think I'm going to make sure I have recovery time between the squats and sprinting in future.

Good to know I'm not the only one in pain due to sprinting.

Yes most definitely put some days between squatting and sprinting. There is no way your quads are recovered the next day and it not only hinders your sprint performance but could easily lead to tearing something. That is what you want to avoid. Sprinting is very demanding and hard on the muscles of the legs. Your legs need to be strong and well rested.

I put the same amount of separation between a LHT workout (I count squats at lifting heavy things) and a Sprint workout as I would between two LHT workouts. They're both high-intensity and both predicated on pushing systems to the limit, which means they require an adequate rest cycle to show the most benefits.
