  • Substitute Exercise For Lunges?

My DH has foot problems. Lunges put so much pressure on the toes, particularly the back foot which is bent. His toes hurt for days afterwards.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Goblet Squats are good for hamstrings/glutes. That might be a little easier on the feet.

      Step-ups?

Can he do just normal squats? When you do those, you're trying to put all the pressure on the heels, so that would be good as far as the toes are concerned.

          Thanks for the replies!

JoeJ, what are Goblet Squats? Dirlot, I thought of Step-ups, but I didn't know if that was the same motion. Sanctus, yes, he does do normal squats but when he leaves out the lunges, he feels (the tape he is doing) is too easy.

Bulgarians, one leg goes on a bench, the other is stationary and performs the lunge, so there is no stepping motion which should prevent him from pushing off/landing on his toes heal.

              Goblet Squat

This can be done with a kettlebell too if more weight is needed.

Thanks so much! Wolfman, I am going to look for a video. That one sounds intense. Joe, thanks for the video. We do have kettlebells, 15lbs, 26lbs, and 35 lbs.

ETA: I found it. On the tapes I do, Cathe calls them One Leg Elevated Lunges. That should be much kinder to his toes, so thanks again!
