  • A Link to a Good Video on Splits and Jerks?

I really want to add dynamic movements with a barbell to my KB routines, but I really want to study the good form. I tried them before, but I don't think I do them right.

The move I am refering to (in case there is a name confusion) are:

Jerk: Deadlift bar to the knees, clean to the chest and kindda jump and Over-head press
Split: similar but jumping into a lunge

If you know of a good, clear-cut video, please, link!

The clean and jerk is what you are referring to as a a "split". Clean and Jerk

The clean and push press is what you are calling a jerk. It's more of a strongman exercise than one of the olympic lifts.

Abu Reena's link is good - the girl on EXRX knows her stuff on Olympic Lifting. Be sure to break the lifts down into component parts if you haven't done them before - I coach a course on this from time to time. PM me and I'll send it to you

Ouch, that looks even more complex that what I was thinking about. Uhm, I think I would wait till I have money for a PT to try and do it. I am just going to hurt myself if I try to do it on my own

The pictures I saw in the book followed this video to the clean part, but without a deep squat, and then she sort of did a jumping jack with the press. ??? It is so hard to imagine a complex lift from a bunch of pictures....

The video posted is the correct way to do a clean and jerk - there are power clean variations too (no squat). The jumping jack you're referring too may have been a push jerk - but it sounds like a bad version of it at that. Again, if you are interested in the course send me a PM - it's free after all

Thanks for the offers, folks, but I am uncomfortable doing it by myself, I will need someone guiding me through it. I am far too clumsy & inflexible, and will just end up hurting myself. I can't even do front squat, my wrists just do not bend that way

have you tried power clean with an empty bar?

T NATION | How to Master the Power Clean

the videos on the progressions seem spot on (in comparison to other videos showing what's regarded as proper form) but it's laid out in a way that you can slowly build up to doing the exercise. IMO, next best thing to getting someone to instruct you personally.
