  • Well, %^&#*!!!

So I guess batting .500 ain't bad ... but I drop by my doc's office today just to step on the 'official' scale and to get my BP checked.

The good news? I've indeed dropped 12 pounds since August 18th! Yayyyyyy, me, and yayyyyyy Primal!

The bad news? My BP is still quite elevated, so I don't see getting off the meds anytime soon ... damn it. At least the last time he prescribed, he had the decency to prescribe something affordable. I guess I expected way too much way too soon in that department. Guess we'll see what happens in 3 months.

congrats, good job! How come losing weight and eating right does not lower BP? same thing happened to me last week, my numbers improved and such but not my BP.
I'm too stubborn to give up so I keep on trying.

Thanks for your encouragement, everyone. I guess that Rome wasn't built in a day, and after 50 years of abuse, my body is not going to reach homeostasis overnight, either.

As for my Vitamin D, my doc didn't mention any deficiency on my last workup. I have been getting at least 15-20 minutes of sun a day for the last 3 weeks. Even got a nice little tan going on. Haven't done that since I was in my early 20s. But for my own education, would Vitamin D change anything regarding my hypertension?

              Thanks again!!

You want to have sufficient D levels for all sorts of reasons! It's a hormone pre-cursor (not really a "vitamin"), so your whole system needs it for optimal health.

Read this:Vitamin D: Sun Exposure, Supplementation and Doses | Mark's Daily Apple

There is some (limited) evidence that Vitamin D deficiency can contribute to hypertension:

Here is a thread about high bp and eating primal. My father (and many others) have lowered bp w/ a combo of lower carb eating and supps. May have some helpful suggestions: http://www.marksdailyapple.com/forum/thread7475.html

Things that stick out in my mind (as far as supps that help lower bp) are magnesium, fish oil, vit. D and CoQ10. Good luck!

Thanks, Rae! I've been considering the fish oil and CoQ10, but had not considered magnesium. After reading through the thread regarding your father, perhaps I should. On the subject of fish oil, is there a primally acceptable brand that doesn't leave you smelling like fish? And what do you think would be a proper dosage of magnesium for starters?

                      Thanks again!

Wow... Not sure I could stand to be around myself. :-) but I am assuming that I wouldn't have to eat raw garlic ... or would I??
