  • Grok squatting in China

I'm in China at the moment and have noticed that people here don't like chairs very much - especially poorer people who work on the streets, markets, etc. Every street you walk in you can see locals squatting, as Grok would have done when he was tired. It's great to see examples of the PB in real life - it's always good to be reminded that what you're doing makes sense and not have people say you're wrong all the time!

    Grok on.

Yup! That's part of why they don't have an obesity problem over there. In some circles, what Mark calls the "Grok squat" is actually referred to as the "Asian squat."

They are getting their own problem. It took time for us to get this fat and it will take them time too. You'd be hard pressed to find a squatting toilet, for instance, in the larger Chinese cities now I think. It worries me, but as a Chinese-speaking fitness enthusiast, it may provide me with a new career later in life. :P

I noticed this too when I was there this summer, especially with people waiting around in train and bus stations.

Squat toilets are still the standard. I think I only came across one public restroom with a western toilet. Most of the places I stayed had both.

Beijing, Xi'an, Chengdu, Western Sichuan (before being kicked out by the police), all over Yunnan, Guilin/Yangshuo, and Hong Kong.

Sounds like a nice trip. Always wanted to go to Chengdu, but now that I am married less so...
