  • Question about tabata sprints interval time

Is it okay if I sprinted for 5 seconds and walked for 10? Repeat 10 times.

The track that I go to is very short and unless I want to sprint on the curves, I have to keep it short.

    Tabata means 20s work,10s rest.

6-8 cycles of true Tabata would be 120-160s of work and 60-80s rest.
    You're proposing 50s work and 100s rest.

I'm no expert on creating interval workouts but i think that's too 'easy'

Not at all, it takes about 10 minutes. I might be resting more than 10 seconds. It's most definitely not easy.

Next time I'll experiment with sprinting on the curves...

According to your own numbers it was a 2.5 minute workout so you're WAY off somewhere.
30 seconds per lap sprinting the straights would be a TINY track.
You're probably walking fast enough so your recovery is only partial which is a valid
variable to tweak in interval workouts.
Not much like 'Tabata' but still a good workout.

tabata intervals were named after the doctor who studied what timing of all out effort and rest were most effective for performance. his conclusion was 20 seconds all out with 10 seconds rest. any change in that would no longer be a tabata interval

if you are worried about running out of room simply turn around and run the other direction
