  • What's your target HR when you move long and slowly???

When I go out for my run/walks I'm aiming to keep my hr around or below 130bpm I walk the hills in my neighborhood - b/c when I run them my HR jumps upto 165/170bpm. my max hr for a HIIT session is 180bpm, though I have a hard time reaching it...since I have a low resting HR

I keep it at about 60% of max.

I aim for about 65-70% of max, and usually do it through brisk walking or moderate cycling. It can take a while to get there as I have a fairly low RHR too.

I'm very glad to have broken free of "chronic cardio". Previously, I was always afraid of what might happen (i.e. how much weight I would suddenly pile on) if I didn't work out hard, long and often. It didn't happen. Wish I could go back to my old gym and somehow convince the other chronic cardio regulars of that, because some of them looked like they were truly suffering.

I don't know what my heart rate gets to. I just figured out that if I'm sweating I'm going too fast.

Uh, no. Sweating has absolutely nothing to do with effort. It might, but it need not. Temperature has more to do with it. Whether you can carry on a conversation is a more accurate measure.

As to the OP, it all depends on your age and fitness level. the % of your max HR is relevant, the actual number is not as that will vary from person to person.

I walk alone so I tend to have my conversations in my head Actually, I've been doing my 20 minute walks on my lunch hour for so long that it's almost robotic.

I've found once I get my HR going, its harder to keeping below 130, than it is keeping it steady at 165, unless I'm walking slowly at the kids pace. Anything over 145/150 and its hard to maintain a conversation... below 130 and I can walk/run and talk all day...
