    I recently hurt my left shoulder at my friend's cottage. I slipped going from the boat onto his dock and fell, but caught myself with my arms before I could completely submerge. That night there was a fair amount of pain.


    That was 2 weeks ago, and it's still sore. I'm trying to avoid using it during my workouts, plus icing it down a bit when I can.


    Any recommendations for an injury like this? I haven't gone to the doc yet, so I'm not sure if it's just a strain or a tear (probably the former).

    I'd skip the doctor and go straight to the physiotherapist. They'll recommend all sorts of exercises that will rehabilitate and strengthen.

      Go to the doctor first; I had a friend who had a similar injury and although she thought it was just a strain, it turned out to be a torn rotator cuff, which requires surgery. Don't wait on this - get it seen.

      Primal eating in a nutshell: If you are hungry, eat Primal food until you are satisfied (not stuffed). Then stop. Wait until you're hungry again. Repeat.

        Could be a tear, which you could find out with an MRI.

        A torn rotator cuff doesn't necessarily need surgery, a good physical therapist can determine this without a scan.


        Best advice is see both. The time it takes to get the scans and results could be quite long, so get some therapy done. It makes no sense to dal with the pain to wait for the results, that are most likely going to say, "Get physio."
