  • Plank ???

    Does anyone find it harder to do the forearm/feet plank than the hand/feet plank?

    Forearm/feet is much harder for me. Am I doing something wrong?

      I am sure my form is good. I have used a mirror many times to check. I just find it much harder on my lower back and abs. Just wondering if anyone else has this issue.

        Forearm planks are more difficult because your weight is distributed more evenly from feet to elbows. When performed using your hands the weight shifts more to hips and legs rather than your core. If you want to use your hands elevate your feet on a bench or chair (what I do).

          It's harder for me too. I can do a straight-arm plank much longer than a forearm plank. Now walking planks... those kill.

            You're not doing anything wrong. Forearm planks require more core strength because the leverage is different. It's the same reason why a pushup is easier off of a ledge as opposed to doing it on the floor.

              I read PBF wrong I thought the hand/feet plank was the last (hardest) in the progression. I can't tell you how many times I looked at that and read it wrong. Jeesh!!! This low carb must be messing with my brain. lol

                al's article is great.

                we do a lot with plank and chaturanga dandhasana in yoga, which does use more leg. when we start working on forearms--dolphin pose, fore arm balances, etc--it goes much more to the abs.

                    I guess I am the black sheep- my main problem with hand planks or pushups is wrist pain, I have a way easier time doing fist pushups (or bar pushups) and forearm planks. Weird.
                    Stats: 5'6" female, 21 years young
                    Starting Weight: 187 lbs (March 2010)

                      I agree on the wrist pain. I definitely feel the forearm plank more in the abs though and since that is what I am working for I will eliminate the wrist pain and work the abs more and do the forearm plank. I have a hard time with the fish pushups or bars. Did it take getting used to?
