  • Reps while doing pullups?

    Right now whenever I do my pullups, I do 5 then 4 then 3 then 2 then 1 ...

Are there any better ways to do this? I take about a 20-30 second break in between each.
feel free to take a look at my journal!

What exactly do you mean by better?

Do as many as you can do each time you do them, then when you are truly done, jump up into the top position and very slowly lower yourself down (negative). Try to always be doing more than last time. To build more muscle and strength, you might consider taking longer breaks.
If you are new to the PB - please ignore ALL of this stuff, until you've read the book, or at least http://www.marksdailyapple.com/primal-blueprint-101/ and this (personal fave): http://www.archevore.com/get-started/

I do three sets. Max reps, each set, minimum of 3 minute breaks between sets. I also wear a weight vest (currently 35 lbs), and add weights whenever I can hit five or more reps. The next workout, whichever set I hit at least five reps for, I add weight, but if I fail to hit five reps, I keep the weight steady until I can beat 5.

Check out the fifty pull-up challenge for a simple method to increase your reps.

Keep doing them. Do them in a reverse fashion, go up and down the pyramid you already have going, or being new pyramids, vary up the number of reps, honestly there's a million different ways to switch up your workout.

Weight vests are great too. I have two and I use them to pyramid.

You might try alternating them with another exercise. I will do 5 pullups, rest one minute, then do 10 dips, rest another minute. Try to do as many rounds as you can. The Simplefit routine is a good one to build up on your pullups.

I like 3 sets till failure. I got up to 20+ while doing that. Now I'm doing it again with +25lbs.
