  • Intro - New in NJ

    Hey all,

My wife and I were vegans. Well, okay, vegan wannabes. I loved my sushi too much to ever be fully vegan. We were off the vegan lifestyle more than we were on it. When we were on it, we ate what we thought was healthy, vegan food. Off? Bring on the crap, and lots of it.

Then my wife started reading and doing research. She turned me on to the book "Good Calories, Bad Calories" by Gary Taubes, which I'm still working my way through. I bought The Primal Blueprint. At first, I couldn't wrap my vegan infused mind around it. But more and more it started to make sense.

I started 2 1/2 weeks ago. So far I've lost 8 pounds. Right now I'm getting over a cold, but I fasted for two days and slept a lot, so I think that helped a great deal. I can't wait until I'm fully better so I can start exercising again. Just today my wife remarked on my arm muscles.. said they feel firmer.

I think I'm actually eating more vegetables and fruits NOW than I did when I was vegan/vegetarian. Bread and pasta were easy to give up.. the wheat was giving me horrible heartburn. I did have a detox from sugar, but I feel much better now. If I want something sweet, I eat a piece of fruit.

I can't wait for my PB Cookbook to arrive. Any other NJ groks in here? I'm in Monmouth County.

    Hey Art and welcome!
Don't forget to check the forums for some pretty awesome recipes as well. And I too am from nj, I live in Ocean County, which is not to far from where you are at. I think they are a couple other New Jersey primals too. Perhaps sometime we should try to get a group together do a tri-state meet up/bbq this summer!

I say we try and form a group and next summer have a primal BBQ at a park somewhere. Anyone interested?
