hello! just wanted to say hey. my story isn't all that interesting so i'll just do a simple rundown. i have always struggled with weight. i made the decision to get serious in 2007. lost a fair amount of weight with simple portion's all i knew at the time. then i found lc/hf/moderate protein. while i agreed with the reasons why i was eating lc at a cellular level, i didn't lose much eating lc. but i continued, bc i knew it was good for me. in may of '11 i did homeopathic hcg. lost down to a low.did fairly well maintaining and lost 7-9 lbs more putting me at amy all time low in years. naturally, i didn't think i was *there* and was not completely satisfied. what i would give to be there again. hind-sight, ya know? anyway, i loosened my reigns and started the slow regain. and have struggled since. so aggravated about that, but i can't dwell on it.

decided i need to drastically clean up my diet....and i started moving. i have always, always HATED exercise, but getting a new dog motivated me. she needed to go for walks, so i have been at minimum walking twice a day. i decided that if i was going all this walking why was i eating like crap? so i cleaned it up. i was tired of food controlling me. i went back to lc as eating carbs just sent off binge behavior. so with diet cleaned up and some movement going on. i decided to add some lifting 3 times a week. and adopted a 80/20 principle as far as allowing more overt carby eating.

i had heard about MDA in the past but never been on as i thought it was just another lc plan and well, i knew lc. but i decided to look it up and have been here ever since. the more i have read, the more i am blown away, that without knowing it, i have been implementing all the principles of PB. right down the way i was moving and 80/20.

this is starting my 6th week. i do think i have lost inches, and possibly some scale weight, but don't know where i was when i started. i have weighed a few times and measured BF with an omeron handheld to monitor trends. i have weighed/measured a few times in the last couple weeks. and have been a bit puzzled. i felt good about my initial measurements. but since my first weigh and bf% check, i have gone up 1.6 pounds and my bf has gone up .8% my diet is cleaner than it has ever been and i am moving WAY more than i ever have. i don't understand. my diet is mostly ground beef and chicken. some veggies (my gut struggles with veggies), fruit and cream in my coffee. and added butter/coconut oil.

i'm just walking at a moderate pace 3-4 hrs a week, lifting 3 times week, sprinting 1-2 times a week.

any ideas? i know the alternative of eating whatever and not moving is not the answer so while i'm scratching my head wondering what the deal is, i know i need to keep doing what i'm doing. but am just curious where the disconnect might be.

Welcome. Ditch the scale and focus on how your clothes fit and how your new clean-foods menu and daily movement makes you feel. Let your 'right size' be a result of being healthy. Be healthy, don't be on a diet

thank you...yeah, i'm not really worried about scale weight with all the exercise i know that can skew the scale, but have to weigh in order to take my bf%. i'm more wondering how it is my body fat has increased with all that i'm doing. am i losing lean muscle? (i only looking for trends with the bf% measuring, i know accuracy may not be exact)

btw, am F, 39 in october mom of 4 all born c-section, 5'4", 154.6 this morning, 30.9% bf on aug 26, 30.5% on aug 28, 31.3% this morning...all measurements taken at the same time of day.

I looks like you are very low carb and this may not be enough for you. Why do you eat mostly ground beef and chicken?

I understand about the veggies not liking your guts but you need a lot more in your diet. What about things like shredded spinach in everything, homemade salsa, fried onions and garlic and mushrooms poured over your food? Cauliflower mash is tasty and easy to digest and dont forget sweet potato fries, Oh I love them oven baked in coconut oil.

If raw veggies tears you up then cook them, mash them shred them and add them in everywhere. This is what I had to do to get them in.

Also if veggies are causing problems this may be an indicator that there is something wrong in the digestion. You might want to look into that.

A variety of different meats will also add to your diet if you can as those listed are not the most nutrient dense. Liver, heart, fish, sardines, shellfish if you can would be a good idea to add in. Can you eat eggs? lots of eggs is the best way to get cheap protein.

I do this on a tight budget so it is doable with some creativity.

          thank you!

the veggies I do eat are cooked. I want to love them, will keep trying.

meat...those two are convenient. the rest of your list makes my stomach turn reading them...<blush>

eggs...I don't know what's up with them...they have been making me gag lately but I will keep trying. we buy 10 dozen fatm fresh at a time.

I do eat apples most every day, with natural peanut butter. or tithed fruit if I have it.

I really appreciate your bout. I'm so not creative when it comes to cooking veggies.

Well if eggs and whatnot make you gag then dont force it. Be aware though that a variety of foods is important for real healthy nutrition.

I am lucky I spose I like to cook and do not need recipes generally as I can figure it out on my own. I would suggest that you learn to cook and expand that skill as much as possible. It does not need to be fancy to be varied.

My fav meal is a pan fried steak and then add some water to the pan let it come to a boil, add frozen veggies and steak spice and close the lid while they steam in all the juices. less than 10 min and food is.

One key to paleo success is learning to relike foods as your tastes change. as you stop barraging your tastebuds with sugar and salt, foods become different. I would suggest you work on expanding what you eat as you can.

            good luck.

thank you! i appreciate you taking time to answer my questions.

i'm glad you mentioned frozen veggies...those are ok, then? they just seem so much easier to deal with. the fresh stuff i buy goes bad before i get it all eaten and i get so tired of throwing stuff away.

Hi, I grow all my own fruit and veg, I have so much that I freeze it. When things are in season they are cheaper, if there is something you really like buy lots and freeze it especially berries as they can be so expensive. You will find 100s of sites telling you how to freeze fruit and veg, YouTube is great for videos.
